I think its actually caused a 'membrane sweep' and it separates the membranes from the cervix. FTM here so correct me if im wrong people but think the mw or doc uses a finger and kinda swivels it around in there  and it can kickstart labour?

EDIT: "Membrane sweep", also known as membrane stripping, or "stretch and sweep" in Australia and the UK - during an internal examination, the midwife moves her finger around the cervix to stimulate and/or separate the membranes around the baby from the cervix. This causes a release of prostaglandins which can help to kick-start labor (Courtesy of wikipedia)

my gp said she did a partial one this morning when she did an internal exam...felt like to me she just felt around up there, didnt feel painful, just uncomfortable. She said that it could help kick start my false labour contractions into something concrete. :D

OK, without wanting to sound like a total twat and not really wanting to say it at all but im sure some of you must be thinking it, but does this sound like something one might be able to do ones self if really desperate. :eek:Personally ive never heard of it before this pregnancy, sounds relativly simple though. Cant be that hard to find right area. Dont think any Doc would do it though.

Spent the day walkin around the liffy valley hoping something might happen after the rotten night i had last night but no, and on way home cramps start again. God its time baby made an entrance. Def get the tight skin, think my tummy gonna rip open sometimes.

Ever had a pap smear? It was just like that IMO. I don't think I could reach that far...I'm sure my oh could but I would be scared to have him poking around like that! When is your next gp appointment?

what a gorgeous little man, well done!

I thought I was going to die with embarrassment today. Had my 39 week appointment, all fine, then consultant says: "I am going to examine you now, if you will get ready, I'll be back in a minute", pulling the curtains around the little bed. This combination of words with the pulled curtains to me sounded like she was going to do an internal exam, maybe checking if there was any sign of dilation or what not, but I could not have been more wrong. She measured my belly with the measuring tape and that was it. I have never been so embarrassed - good thing next time I get anywhere near embarrassment I'll have too much pain to think about it :eek::eek:

ohhhh too funny! there is no dignity in this pregnancy stuff! I was reminding myself of that yesterday after the internal having to struggle to get up from the bed with my pants around my knees so i could pull them up! I'm sure I looked sooo attractive in the moment, but sure just gotta forget about that stuff!

xiwang, I would have been mortified too, but i have to say its pretty funny stuff! I'm sure your not the first as well! :D

Hi all, still gave t got my laptop back... Just haven't got around to collecting it... Have been checking in on my phone but hate replying on it.. Lol.
The evenings are getting harder and harder every day... I am sooo uncomfortable now! Could have just cried last night!! I'm not sleeping much anymore either.
And my mum went into hospital yesterday, they think she has had another small stroke, it's the 3rd she's had since the summer :-( the are small and don't leave a mark but she is unwell and they have let her out of hospital tonight! I'm so annoyed cause they haven't got to the bottom of it! They just say all tests are clear.. Sorry for the rant girls, am just bothered by it all!! Gonna go up and visit her after a cuppa and a sandwich that my hubby is making!! :D I'll get laptop on way home. Think I might do mums Christmas tree tonight too... Poor mum no decos up at hers yet so me and my sister will sort it out!
Then I'm gonna come home and try and jump the hubby, see if it helps move anything along ;-)

Hi ladies, im baaaaaack. The laptop has been gone for way too long. Im 37 weeks now today and feeling very uncomfortable.

Please tell me ye are all as uncomfortable, are unable to sleep and are waddling around like little round penguins too... make me feel some what better.

Have a little bug coming on me today, throat feels like razor blades, so the OH took the duvet down on the couch for me for the night. Nanny is taking the 3 year old off for a few hours tomorrow so i am just going to snuggle up and watch a dvd. Hate taking paracetemol but my throat is so sore and i feel so yock think i will have too. Feels good to have a little crib - i know ye understand. :D

Anyways ladies, how are ye? Anybody have there baby yet?

Your poor mam, its such a pain when your not getting any answers, and to top it its the last thing you need with babs on the way, hope it all works out soon hun xxx

Teresa I'm sorry about your mom- I'm sure its stressful when it keeps happening and there are no answers! Especially around christmas...I hope she starts feeling better soon and you guys get some answers! I remember when I was younger my dad kept on having issues with mini-strokes and bells palsy and they found out it was being caused by an infection of some sort and it was an easy fix from there! Fingers crossed for you! Let me know how jumping on hubby works....been trying that here, no joy! If anything its made baby more quiet! SIGH!

Princessa- welcome back! I was just thinking about you yesterday wondering if you had gotten your computer back! How was your visit with your mom? I'm sorry your feeling sick...getting a cold while pregnant is the worst, but especially in the last few weeks! I would want someone to knock me out until I was feeling better if that was the case haha! I am definitely a waddleing ball of a person these days....39+4 and very impatient for baby to come!

Jeni- I hope your appointment goes well today and you get some good answers!!

I'm in bits this morning...my back and hips are in agony! sleeping is so uncomfortable these days...I'm kinda hoping that my back is so sore because something might be starting? I've got some pain and pressure down there as well...I keep saying to baby that today would be a great birthday...12/12/12! I think he is a little too comfortable though!

I bought some pineapples...going to cut those up and go sit on the ball for a while! BTW pineapples are going for a euro in Dunnes right now!! :D

sorry to hear about your mum Teresa, hope they find out the cause soon to get proper treatment.

I heard that sex does make baby quiet because they enjoy the rocking :p

My mums visit was fantastic, she gave me a right kick up the bum to get everything sorted. We got the wooden floors sorted, two rooms painted, hospital bag packed, bits and bobs washed, bought mattresses. It was great, loads of ticks on the list. She just said come on we are doing this now - end of story. She will be home again just before christmas and will be staying till after baby is born.

Id love to have the baby by the time she arrives at this stage though, sooooo uncomfortable and the sickness is just making me feel super sorry for myself.

Oh Rachineire, i had some pineapple today too, more for the cold than anything else as nothing worked on my daughter when i went 10 days over. 39+4, you must be well ready to be finished with pregnancy now. Are you all set for the arrival and christmas? :D

Hi girls, got laptop back thank god! I went up to see mum last night and she just seems drunk... :( very tired looking and almost slurry/drole the way she's speaking! They only test they are waiting on is a culture blood test for insect bites that will take 3 weeks to do. Hopefully they will find something from that. I decided it was time to leave when I could feel the usual braxton hicks starting. I had to stop in to my friends to collect my laptop so had a cuppa there. I sat for an hour and by the time I was going... they were really strong. I don't know how I drove home from there! and I almost couldn't get out of the car and walk into the house with the pain of the bh's.:eek:
Got hubby to fill the bath to see if it would stop them but it didn't.. and at that stage it was like half 12 and I was soo tired. So we went up to bed. Think they were like 4-5 minutes apart! they just started to slow down then and I was so exhausted that I slept.. I do remember getting a couple in the night but only half waking up.. was up and down to the toilet mind you. They pressure is so bad that I couldn't even lift my left leg off the floor to climb up to bed! just rolled back in  anyway, been getting them on and off today too but like an between 45mins to and hour apart and getting longer and not anywhere near as painful as last nights ones.. wonder will it all start again tonight...:o
thank god I have an appt tomorrow at the hospital.... I haven't even gotten dressed today let along be up and about much! Toilet and back to sofa and into kitchen to find something to eat!! :pac::pac:
What will be will be I suppose! am a little nervous that it could be something but excited that it could be too.. have wicked back ache too.. fingers crossed.

Rach - so much for jumping the hubby!! that parts the annoying part, was looking forward to that :P what with him having been gone for 6 weeks and only getting near him once since he got home cause things happen at nights with me! grrrr.... lol..
How is the form with you all? Anyone think that they might be getting closer to things happening...:):)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,064 ✭✭✭Rachineire

oh yes, very very ready for him to get here...we literally have nothing else we could buy besides formula, which we dont bother since no clue whats going to happen there regarding BFing or what type of formula he will take!

christmas is all done for me as well( my OH still has to buy some presents for his family but i told him to just pop over to boots and get some 3 for 2 sets!) basically if its not purchased by now, its not going to happen!

Just got a christmas ornament in the mail today from my mom...little porcelain rocking horse that says baby's first christmas! I love it, its a hallmark ornament which is an american tradition and my mom has one similar from when I was born...definitely made me tear up a bit! now if only he could be here by christmas!

Teresa, sounds like your baby is making some serious movements to getting here! I find that I was getting BH more at night as well...last two nights have been quiet though! Fingers and toes crossed for you!! I hope you get some more"time" with your hubs as well...i would be annoyed if my OH was away for 6 weeks and then I was in too much pain to take advantage LOL

Teresa, sorry to hear about your mum. Hope she is feeling better soon.

No news on my side. The babes is still hanging in there (unfortunately).Had what turned out to be BH last night but they subsided and I went to sleep to awake feeling perfectly normal. Boo hoo.... Was never so excited to be feeling pains!!! OH was timing them and fell asleep mid way as this was at 1.30 last night.

Oh well. Day time tv doesn't get any better as the days goes by...

Looking forward to hearing news of babies from everyone

LOLL... I know Rach.. would love to be able to 'make the most' of the time together. but that being said, I just can't wait to meet this baby. Its 7 years in the making and cost a bloody fortune to get this far LOLLL so i guess its ok.. though if things aren't too bad tonight maybe we could try and helpt it along another bit...

Am just waiting for my sis to come back from town and think I might try and dye my hair, was at hairdressers yesterday for a cut and its lovely but I like the colour I get in the chemist so gonna do that myself.. I hate the thought of having to blowdry and do all that again but hey.. will be worth it to have hair done. Esp if baba does decide to arrive a wee bit early!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 581 ✭✭✭Princessa

Snap ladies, the BH are wicked at night!! Im convinced every night that yes this is it, they are going to get stronger and waiting for a show and waters to pop ...... nothing. Very annoying.

Hey. Well my sister hasn't arrived back yet so no hair eye tonight. But, I got such a burst of energy and nesting and washed out the baby's new furniture then cleaned the bathroom (walks incl) then washed all floors and cleaned the fireplace. Then painted my toenails and cooked the dinner!! dunno where it all came from! Lol...
Omg I'm having such cravings for chocolate!! Hubby bought me a tin of roses... It's everything I have not to eat it all right now!!!
