Thinking of buying one of these or the Achieva one. Does the catleap have a VESA mount? I think I read somewhere that it didn't?

What happens if you run a game on a lower than native resolution? Considering there is no scaling board does it just run at that resolution with black bars around it? Only game from time to time w/ a 6870 and wouldn't fancy playing games surrounded by black bars.

    It is VESA mount compatible.

as for scaling im not sure i dont think it adds borders so but ill be post back this evening and tell you :)

Really want one of these now :) Will probably get the Multi though so I can still use it with my xbox. That's more expensive though :(

lads, unfortunately I encountered some impotence with my e-peen.

couldnt get eyefinity to work on 3 of these badboys. my active displayport adapters are only single link, but I didn't know it so nearly through my rig out the window I was getting so angry.

If anyone wants to lend me some Viagra in the form of an active mini displayport ->DVI-Dual link (you can tell its dual link cause it has a USB cable attached like so: club-3d-dp-to-dvi-adapter.jpg.

    id buy them but they're like £80 a piece. i need 2.

Just testing this out for you.

I can confirm that it's full screen at:

    640x480
    1920x1080
    1920x1200
    and obviously enough, 2560x1440.

any 4:3 formats do put bars on the left and right though.

ive attached a zip of screen caps of the above res's in BF3 at low and ultra settings if anyone is interested.

EDIT: or not. the pics are waaaay too big. forum limit is 2mb and they get upto 11mb. no point in reducing quality as it defeats the purpose of showing differences in quality. if anyone is actually interested i can email them to you or host them on a different site etc.:o

I have a pair of mini DP > DVI single link actives that came with my cards, afaik single link is good up to 1920 x 1200?

Otherwise you could buy a couple online and return them with in 7 days for a refund :D

Been looking at one of these for a PC build i am thinking of. Is there any great difference between the ones on green-gum on e-bay for around $330 @60Hz and the ones that will be for $450 that could be OCed to a high Hz.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,828 ✭✭✭unklerosco

The difference is one can be OC'd to 120hz... Other than that they're the same screens.

is it not 100hz? can it do 120?

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,699 ✭✭✭Brian

Depends on your GPU. If you have a GTX680 you can do 120 Hz, otherwise somewhere between 85 and 100 for most people.

Just thought I'd post this FYI for the curious. I went ahead and bought the Crossover 27" Monitor and although my graphics card the SAPPHIRE HD 5970 2GB GDDR5 PCIE is listed on many of the seller's of this monitor ebay pages, as having no support for this card, I can confirm that this is not the case I've just hooked it up to my card using the supplied DVI cable and voila no problems display fired up and I have to say is looking absolutely gorgeous and every cent a circa €700 (or whatever) monitor. In work I use the Apple 27" display and I have to say this can certainly hold its own against it. Had a quick look and I appear to have been lucky, can't detect any dead/stuck pixels, monitor shipped on Monday from S.Korea and arrived Dublin, Thursday afternoon (Fed Ex) no additional charges as of yet, but will post back if I get any unwelcome requests in the post.

I'm in the same position - what's the multi?

Sorry I'm clueless - is it a variation of the monitor? Where can you buy it?

    Cheers!

If I were to buy tomorrow, where & who would you recommend?

The Multi has a HDMI input aswell as a DVI.

But it also has a scaler built in so will have a little bit of input lag.

It is more expensive at about €350.

Here is a pixel perfect model Linky

dream-seller has been used by posters in the thread and green-sum aswell. The latter supply 120hz.net with their 2B models.

Took delivery of a Shimian today. Perfect apart from some slight back light bleed on top which is only visible on a black background. No dead pixels as far as I can tell.. and all for 233 euro delievered. I don't know about customs but it went through EMS/An Post and I heard nothing so here is hoping..

    This thing is massive!

  • Registered Users Posts: 228 ✭✭Bacon and Cabbage

    €233 ?? Seriously?

They are even cheaper now assuming you don't get caught for Customs.

    €227 Delivered.

These are pretty much the same as the Catleap but the stand is much easier to remove so handier for VESA mounting.

  • Registered Users Posts: 228 ✭✭Bacon and Cabbage

    That's scandalous!

Anyone in the market for a monitor, I would highly recommend the yamakasi and at that price, even if you do get hut by customs it's still a huge bargain

  • Registered Users Posts: 339 ✭✭Fiddlex

From reading this thread I ordered myself a catleap from green-gum on eBay for 248€ on monday just waiting for delivery now hoping it will be soon :D I'm going to use it with my new GTX 670 OC

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,983 ✭✭✭Tea_Bag

Man they've become so cheap. I feel I should order another before they disappear, but I've got no space on my desk. I can only just fit my 19" next to the catleap.

    portrait instead?

  • Registered Users Posts: 65 ✭✭BillyCom

Are the current ones available capable of 120hz?

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,983 ✭✭✭Tea_Bag

No. they're not capable of more than 67hz at the moment until someone brings out a replacement PCB.

120hz.net has organized limited runs of the 120hz model, but I'm not sure if its still going. it was also about €100 more expensive.

  • Registered Users Posts: 12 abitmenthol

Would there be a huge difference running in 120Hz vs 60 Hz??

Is it worth going out of your way to try and source one capable of 100Hz plus, or are these good monitors and still great value at the standard version freely available at the moment.

I'm considering getting one but am a bit worried about getting it over form S Korea. I'd probably stump up the extra cash for one of the tested ones. Would hate to get one with dead pixels etc.

How would they compare against the likes of a Dell UltraSharp U2412M which you could get for about the same price. I'd really like to have 1440p instead of 1080p though.

The quality of the panel itself should be near identical to the Dell U2711 (bezel and stand aside). The U2412M would be very similar quality as another panel in the IPS range - perhaps slightly inferior as not having the full 8-bit colours (probably not really even noticeable to the human eye) but still vastly superior to regular TN panels in terms of colour.

The catleap does have a glossy screen though, if that factors into your decision.

Thanks Monotype. Don't really mind the glossy screen. I think I'll roll the dice on the Catleap so. Have people here generally been receiving good units without dead pixels and bright spots etc?
I'm getting it as part of a new build. Still trying to decide between a GTX 670 and and AMD 7970 for GPU.
