Yeah, I saw this earlier. Talk about an epic night if it does happen!!

I think they are two of the most interesting bands in metal right now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,557 ✭✭✭Knifey Spoony

Not sure if I'll be around for this, but I'll get to see them both in Rock Am Ring a couple of week before. Would love to see there own headlining show though. This and getting to see Sleep in Dublin would make for a brillant summer.

Oh yes this is great news. Assume Mastodon will play The Hunter in full too in prep for Sonisphere. Was really hoping they hadn't forgotten about coming here on the touring cycle.

Gojira were unreal when they played Whelans.

If this is true, why the !@#% are they booking this the same night as Katatonia?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,834 ✭✭✭Useful.Idiot

actually shat myself when I read about this. going to be an unreal gig. Mastodon's setlist nowadays looks absolutely awesome.

Old Mastodon: yes. New Mastodon: no. (Unfortunately. I've tried to like their newer albums but they just don't click with me). I'll give this one a miss.

I saw that, here's hoping. Mastodon would be pretty savage in The Academy and I really want to see Gojira.

From Mars To Sirius or The Link, don't bother with anything else.

The way of all flesh is good too?

Is there any word on price yet? Definitely gonna be there.

I disagree completely. I'd say From Mars and Way of All Flesh.

There's something about the older albums I just can't get into.

So StaticAge11, best to just listen to it all I guess :P

Mind you I wouldn't bother with Mastodon after Leviathan either . . .

I guess it's all just personal opinion. Crack the Skye is one of my favourite albums.

We're out of the long weekend now so expect an announcement this week if it is true.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,585 ✭✭✭honru

Confirmed by MCD on Twitter, tickets cost €30.50 excl. TM fees.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 587 ✭✭✭Planemo

It's on ticketmaster as 18.95 (link)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,345 ✭✭✭Somnus

    F*ck yes!!

This will be one amazing night. I can't believe these two bands are going to be playing together.
I saw Gojira in Whelans and it was immense. Haven't seen Mastodon since properly getting into them over Christmas. So this will be f*cking incredible.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,927 ✭✭✭Sugarlumps

Bargain of the century at that price.

Dunno what you're lookin at but that link says 30.50.

A bit steep for an Academy gig

it did originally say 18.95 but mcd fixed it when they were told on facebook about it, bit of a shame cause 30.50 is a bit expensive especially when service charges are add :(

I'm pretty sure in saying that when a 'test' gig is put up on Ticketbastard the price is 18.95, that must be the default and someone forgot to change it.

But 30.50 (Probably be closer to 35 after fees) is ridiculous for The Academy

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,585 ✭✭✭honru

Katatonia has now been moved from July 4 to July 3. Nice!

Yea very expensive , like it got a ticket for Kasabian in the O2 for €35 . I think there should be a limit on gigs in the Academy price range and should be €25

Will this sell out soon/immediately? Cos I kinda need to get my bro his birthday present first (Andrew WK tix), then want Mastodon. But I can't miss Mastodon either.

As soon as I saw this, my heart leapt!
    And then, over 18s only...
I'll literally be missing it by about a month...

To be honest, I'd try it. Or at worst, look around for people who are older, ask can go in with them as "guardians". Thats if ya really wanna go.

I mean do you look young?

You could get in no bother if you look older. And sure if it's only a couple of months it's worth a shot! You might get a sound guy on the door. And I've never seen anyone getting asked for an ID. It's too good to miss! :D

Word of caution ... the "guardians" thing wont work as this is a fully licenced venue as opposed to a "concert venue" or outdoor show where alcohol is sold. I know this because my brother and his 17yr 10mths old son were home from Oz two yrs ago , so I decided to surprise them with tickets for The Answer ..... my nephew was asked for ID at the door and they wouldn't let him in as he was 2 mths too young (despite being with his Dad and 2 uncles).

... as we stood outside deciding what to do (go home, sell the tickets, give the tickets away, some go in, some go home etc) the doorman must have sympathised and radio'd the venue manager. The manager came out, heard our story and said "OK, bring him upstairs to the balcony, watch the show from there and obviously no drinking" - true gent.

I better get a ticket soon! If I missed this I'd never forgive myself :P
