Maybe ask for a non consolidated set up and just use the horizon for tv? Although for 150 you probably need a new modem and the technicolor doesn't support bridging. Reckon take your time as your setup in complex.

I got offered a 6th month trail Thursday with increased BB to 150, increased TV package and phone calls.
I said yes and started reading the thread. Delivery of box could have been Friday but I postponed till Tuesday in order to finishing reading the thread and I can’t afford to be without BB this weekend while I am working from home.

My current set up(in the attic) includes a Cisco EPC2425 router which feeds my Belkin Wireless N which handles my DHCP and feeds net gear 16 port switch.
The UPC HD box feeds a HDMI matrix. Also fed into the matrix are a couple of Sat boxes. A couple of HDMI cables are ran to the main room with CAT6 going to the others.

NAS DNS 323 and a Revo 3700 running XBMC, a Harmony 900 remote controls everything from downstairs.
As the Cisco router cant do 150MB its looks like I need the horizon box to act as my default router, switching off DHCP and wireless on it and allowing the Belkin to continue to do its job.

Not allowing the Horizon to scan the media has also been suggest here.I may have some issues with the Harmony also.

    Any other tips?

How many channels can the horizon record at the same time?

To my surprise i just realised that since Fridays soft update i had not even one freeze! And my power settings are on Auto! Well done upc!

What i am really missing is whole series deletion...

Lost HD channels too, rang UPC on Saturday and got them back, however they rang me back an hour later and said there is a known problem which they were working on. So possibly might lose them again?

Ok, checked the reminders section, and they're turned on but still not working.

Also - are 40MHz channels working for anyone with the Horizon box? I've the router set to 20/40MHz (as opposed to 20MHz), but still the channel width shows up as 20MHz. This is a pity, since this typically yields a big improvement in Wifi speeds. It's possible it's disabled since the 5GHz frequencies are disabled - typically 40MHz channels are usually used in 5GHz mode.

Both are used sometimes you will have 2 channels showing eg channel 1+5
depending on what extended channel is in router setup
Its happens very rare only noticed 2 times it shown
Download inssider to monitor your wifi performance

On the edge of returning the box

    1) wifi range is crap. Each update defaults back to channel 6

    2) hd signal keeps jumping or is lost. Cannot watch the Dublin game. No regular rte2 anymore.

    3) menu is not slick. While this is fine for technical users this does not work for regular user

    4) horizon app regularly fails. Remote recording does not work

    5) with the removal of the Sd rte2 and bbc1 we can no longer access these on the app

I understand that this is a trial but the core functionality is poor.

I'm using Wifi Explorer (a similar Wifi tool, for Mac) and it's showing 20/40MHz for nearby networks, and "2,+1" for the channel. But my network only shows as 20MHz.

(btw, there is no way of setting the extended channel in the router setup).

Since update a couple of days ago, box has frozen a couple of times. Never had this problem before last update!

    Ok, found the answer here:
A third option of "40 MHz operation in 2.4 GHz with coexistence mechanisms" function was also developed. This mechanism was created so that routers could enforce a "good neighbor" policy that users could not override.

The router is intelligent enough to auto-disable 40MHz if there's a chance of interference with the extended channel.

It's not just a matter of not using the same channel, I had to avoid using 'nearby' channels as well. That's difficult in my building where I can pick up 10-15 Wifi networks, but by going up to channel 13 I get 40MHz enabled, testing Wifi speeds now.

anyone know what size hard drive it has?

seems to be getting full fast, at 36% with only a few recordings, does the OS take up much space?

If the TV station changes the planned time you end up with this problem. Nothing upc can do about that other than use the feature to add extra time to each show just in case

    https://vragen.upc.nl/app/answers/detail/a_id/912/~/specificaties-horizon-hd-dvr-mediabox

    500 GB.

If you're recording in HD, that's going to fill your box a lot faster than SD...

How does one change the wifi channel? Having same problem with my box and laptop!

The constant lag when browsing the menus is a serious pain.

You can change the Wifi channel by navigating to 192.168.192.1 in a browser on your laptop, don't think you can set it via the TV.

Given that the Horizon has multiple tuners, I wonder if it's recording multiple channels at the same time for the PVR functionality (pause & rewind etc.). If so, that would require more space reserved for that, leaving less for your recordings.

I guess not though. Once, I switched channel, then rewinded to catch the start of a sentence I'd missed - and it actually rewinded back onto the previous channel! Not sure if that's a feature or a bug, but I found it pretty confusing. ;)

Got my horizon box deconsolidated and went with Thompson router instead. Headache over. Gone from 0.06mbs in bedroom to 40+mbs.

I recommend doing the same until widespread issues are taken care of as channels don't seem to help at all.

Had 2 technicians look at it incase you are wondering.

    Pp

My guide stopped working today, all channels just show 'not available' of course this also means the recordings failed. Anyone get getting this?

Anyone else get the email in relation to taking in the Horizon survey panel? they are claiming it's limited to 100 people?

Stability seems to have improved lately. However there is still major issues with their DVR and on demand. It's all just so unfriendly to use.

4.3kWp South facing PV System. South Dublin

    Rang UPC about quality today.

Was thinking of returning box due to fundamental issues (hd channels with sound only due to poor signal, wifi range etc)

They have stated that it would be €45 euro to come off trial. Engineer will probably come out.

I understand that this is a trial but basic functionality needs to work. I understand that their may be flaws with the additional new features and that is fine.

Should be fun if the engineer cannot sort this out... No way I am getting a charge for a service that does not work

€45 to come off the trial!!!! But the box is not fit for purpose. Cheeky feckers.

Well, given that they gave us 90+ euros in credit for being on the trial, it's not too crazy a notion that if you leave it early you have to give some back.
