That was true blood , not a film.
I thought it was just my tv and was raging, it was just coming yo the most climatic point .

So with true blood and due hard 5 both dropping off before the end that's twice I have been let down ( although it may be TG4 fault)

Guide is **** recently, no shows on the next hour visible. This box is wearing thin on me. The dropping on the media server is terrible when I am recording something. Its a joke, have tried different wireless channels.

I was in a friends house the other day and he had the Sky HD box and the difference in ease of use and functionality was crazy. It's a joy to use. So easy, everything makes sense and very few button clicks required etc. I rang Sky out of interest and they gave me a 12 month offer that beats what I'm paying with UPC by €50 a month so I have decided to cancel and return Horizon. Too many niggly bugs and unreliable wifi got to me in the end. A nice idea but not well executed and so many design and layout mistakes.

I'm well aware that this is a trial and bugs are to be expected but in my opinion, if Horizon was working as it should, it would still be well behind the Sky box. I've followed this thread daily, cheers for the updates etc,it's been a great help!

I'm off to the dark side!

Not unless you have a HD subscription, this was complimentary as part of the trial.

I'm in a similar space, only I'm considering jacking in the tele altogether.

50mb broadband and anytime world phone is only €47 a month.

Will use Freesat/Saorview for tele, the vast majority of pay channels are awful.

What will keep me with UPC for tv, if they're listening, will be a continuation of the ESPN deal, such that the BT Sport channels are included with the top tier package ;) Then at least I get eurosport and some additional premium hd sports coverage for my €35 a month...

I have the same, I pm'd UPC: Reps last night and they replied this morning that they have sent a refresh signal to my box to fix it. Not at home to confirm if it worked though.

    Got a new problem now.....

Keeps skipping channels, even favourites (which now will not stay in the order I place them) this box is about to get airborne..

€47.50 per month cheaper all in. Signifigant saving as far as I'm concerned(albeit only for the first 12 months, after that could be a different story!).

Just hope the broadband is reliable(will be slower but hopefully not noticeably so) and the range can reach my attic and garden unlike UPC. All the best with the box anyway, hope it improves etc!

    Hi Who me
U can change the way the reminders work in the settings menu. I'm in work at the moment but I think you'll find it in the menu, settings, horizon box, preferences, recordings and reminders.

If this is wrong, I'll check when I get home, I'm sure I saw it in there.
its in settings, your reminders might be set to off as default

Cheers guys, I'll take a look.

Odd that it could be off by default. Why let you set a reminder if reminders are turned off?

Does anyone have the problem when scrolling through the guide, when holding either up/down on the remote, when you stop it keeps scrolling? I ran UPC about it and they said it should only continue for about 3 channels.. Mine skips around 10-15 usually, sure the other day it got stuck on a loop of scrolling through the channels. I started the vid about a min into the scrolling, also pressed back/ok a load of times... eventually stopped it. This has happened a few times...

I've never seen it continually scrolling, but it does alway continue for a couple of seconds after you release so at least 5 or more channels (and of course, you also have to hold it down for a couple of seconds before it starts scrolling). It nearly always works quicker just to keep hitting the up/down button.

Just rang UPC about the missing HD channels, apparently the trial was supposed to end today and the box going live on Monday. But... the trial has been extended and the box won't be going live for awhile. I wonder why haha. Ah but the girl was lovely, gave the HD channels back and apparently we get to keep them after the trial is over so another nice little bonus.

Have recorded about 12 movies over last few weeks but tonight decided to sit down and watch one.
Seems like half the recordings have error messages saying beginning didnt record or recording was paused and resumed.
Anyone else notice this? Its annoying if recordings are not going to be reliable.

Has anyone had wifi problems in terms of laptops/other devices not being able to find the horizon wifi network??

I have a MacBook and short of resetting the box, it cannot seem to find the network itself. I've typed it in manually, restarted the laptop, etc. I have to reset the Horizon box to get it recognised on the laptop. The strangest thing is my iPhone has no problem picking it the network, and the MacBook has no problems with other WiFi networks!

the three big issues i have are:

    - scrolling through channels to see what's on takes forever. Sky have this sussed. UPC seem to have a goal of increasing latency to multiple seconds. :(
    - WiFi range sucks. I'm having issues with getting signal ~ 3m away from the box. ridiculous!!
    - Actual broadband speeds seem to be worse too. I think I'm supposed to be on 50Mbps down now. UPC's speedtest is saying I'm getting about 20. Not good. :/

Have a support call in now to see if they can help tweak the settings and improve the usability of the service. If they can't, I'm switching back to the old devices (and package) until they sort it out.

I've decided to return the Horizon box, channel browsing and recordings being dropped is just so bad that I'm returning to the old HD DVR box and its much less cumbersome user interface. I've also been having issues with Netflix and "no internet connection" that requires a box restart. I've had enough! Maybe I should try out Sky as they've been knocking on my door with offers recently.

I gave my Horizon box back about 4 weeks ago as like you it was driving me mad. Got Sky reinstalled.

I got offered a 6th month trail Thursday with increased BB to 150, increased TV package and phone calls.
I said yes and started reading the thread. Delivery of box could have been Friday but I postponed till Tuesday in order to finishing reading the thread and I can’t afford to be without BB this weekend while I am working from home.

My current set up(in the attic) includes a Cisco EPC2425 router which feeds my Belkin Wireless N which handles my DHCP and feeds net gear 16 port switch.
The UPC HD box feeds a HDMI matrix. Also fed into the matrix are a couple of Sat boxes. A couple of HDMI cables are ran to the main room with CAT6 going to the others.

NAS DNS 323 and a Revo 3700 running XBMC, a Harmony 900 remote controls everything from downstairs.
As the Cisco router cant do 150MB its looks like I need the horizon box to act as my default router, switching off DHCP and wireless on it and allowing the Belkin to continue to do its job.

Not allowing the Horizon to scan the media has also been suggest here.I may have some issues with the Harmony also.

    Any other tips?

How many channels can the horizon record at the same time?

In answer to your question the Horizon box can record up to 4 channels at once, If you require your internet and phone for work reasons I would stick with current setup for the moment as these Horizon box's are a bit too unreliable at the moment until the issues listed on this thread are fixed. Unless of course your a bit of a masochist lol:rolleyes:

Yes its possible to turn off DHCP and wireless ON HORIZON but don't think it will work
Horizon router bridge mode not available on horizon
You will have to set up Belkin Wireless N in wireless access mode and its wired connection on it act a gigabit switch
Very easy done on the Belkin and you can still connect netgear 16 port switch to the belkin
I would use the Belkin for connecting any wireless device as horizon wireless not anyway near as good as the Belkin
Now if you still want to try disable DCHP on horizon and use the belkin give it a try
Let me know if all works and the belkin takes over as your router
I have my belkin set up in wireless access mode and that works fine
Best as no wireless drop outs and stronger signal
PM ME if you need help setting up the belkin in wireless access mode its straight forward only involves switch to wirelees access mode on belkin and giving it a ip address that's in horizon range will explain that if you need help

How many channels can the horizon record at the same time answer is 6 but I would avoid that at the moment as could cause box to freeze try 2 or 4 max programs to record same time at the moment and see what happens

This box still in beta stage and a trial was told code for box was done over a year ago but code and box are separate so that's why were testing it to find out the problems and as we find them and let upc know they have there tech guys working on the code of the box as problems get fixed a software update will be applied to the box but this can take time as other problems can come up when code is changed
