Sale ? Please. Marketing semantics. Same trend was observable across retailers. Pixmania were consistnetly the cheapest by the way.

There is a very good reason that Pixmania are the cheapest.

On a totally unrelated note they, by far, get the most complaints on boards [than any other online retailer] and anecdotally have an piss poor after sales service [if things go wrong, or you get a non Irish plug etc]. Plenty of pain to be had.

Yes but it is a reason why things come down in price for a while... what about HTC Sensation? Ill bet that didnt drop much until the One's came out.

Actually the sensation is STILL 450euro...

Supply and Demand. If people are still buying it, there is no pressure to reduce prices. Same goes for the SGS2. VERY popular phones.

The main reason prices drop on older models, when a new model is announced, is because sales for those older models just drop to almost 0. Retailers have to clear that stock somehow. So either the manufacturer reduces price or the retailer reduces their margin, or both.

I understand this concept, its opinion guy who thinks there is some sammy conspiracy taking place.

Fair enough, but I do think a lot of that is marketeers forcing us into thinking we have to have the latest even though it makes little difference. Realistically how much better can a screen get - its not like the new HTC/Samsung screen are rubbish... Processor yes as my phone is laggy and crashes etc - and its always nice to have a better camera when your current one is pants - but it does get to a stage where the innovation takes smaller steps. I'm not suggesting for one second it will stop.

There is no conspiracy. The amount of units sold, unlocked outside operators, is minuscule. Anecdotally, I'd say < 0.5% total sales. It's an exceptionally specialised market. Most people are happy [or only know of] getting their phones via a mobile contract.

The manufacturers of phones are making their money, generally, through the mobile operators. Anything outside that, while is cream, isn't a lot.

Nah, how many times in history have people said that about things...

"sure why would you want more then 1ghz proccessor" etc...

There is ALWAYS room for innovation's and improvements.

I remember saying that about my Desire
Now I have 4 of the fcukers in my phone O_o

My favourite Guinness slogan comes to mind

"Good things come to those who wait!" ;)

Well that design looks very underwhelming.

    Fake, cheap mock up.
The contents of the screen isn't aligned to the actual screen. Slightly skewed.

I hope thats not it... very dull.

That just says the next galaxy phone. While it does specifically say the SGSIII, it's hard to imagine an event like this if it wasn't for a flagship.

Ah I think I'll be happy enough with the one x! I'll come up with ways to hide my potential jealousy over the next few months :P

Procrastinating (over the One X) has finally become a good trait!

Well we don't know if it's going to be any/much better yet! I wonder if any specs etc will leak before the event?

Very true and I really like the look of the X but just cannot commit without knowing about the SGIII hopefully this way I can make a fully informed decision soon enough!

Sorry if this is off topic...

Hoping to get a second hand SII this week, budget of 300. When the SIII specs are out do you think the SII price will plummet in second hand market? If so would it be straight away or only when SIII is actually released (presume that will be a few months)

Will probably just go ahead and get the SII unless there'd be a significant saving in the next month.

    cheers!

From previous launches it doesn't look like there does be any significant drop in prices until the new device really starts to saturate the market so 4 - 6 months after it hits Ireland so if its announced on May 3rd, expect 2 months for Irish carriers to pick it up, then 4 - 6 months for prices of the SGSII to start falling.

There are some rhumors that this will not be the S3, but the S2s or similar - just some minor improvements on the S2. That would be a huge disappointment and HTC would wipe them if it was. As tempted as I am to see it, waiting a few weeks for the launch and then possibly many many more for launch, I don't think I can wait that long for a phone that *may* be marginally better than the HTC. Having had 2x HTC's now and I do actually like sense, its not really worth me holding out.
