Well lads, the start of the new LOI season is just 4 days away and thought I'd set up a thread about the betting for it.
Was fairly successful in betting on it last year and think this might be a place for people to share their opinions on LOI football.

Obviously for the first few weeks it will be fairly tough with all the changes that happen every pre-season/off-season in the LOI.

The first bet I will do this season is
Longford @ 5/4 away to Mervue.

Longford are probably the second strongest team in the First division after Limerick. Waterford lost a lot of key players and can't see why they are 2nd favourites.

    Cork 5/6 away to UCD.

Cork are a very strong team and made some great signings in the pre season. Dan Murray, Colin Healy, John Dunleavy and Daryl Horgan.
    Should beat the Students.

Double works out at just over 3/1

Add in Derry and it's 5/1 with the addition Waterford it works out at 10/1.

Waterford are away to the Wexford Youths, who AFAIK have made no signings yet and lost 3 players.

    Any top goalscorer betting?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,101 ✭✭✭AidySevenfold

Think Rory Patterson is a good shout at 7/1 for Derry. Banging them in in pre-season.
Twigg as well but he's short-ish at 7/2.
Quigley and/or North for Sligo have found the net plenty of times in the last few years.

For an outsider bet, Philly Hughes of Shels is 20/1 to be top scorer.
No markets offered for 1st division.

I have 3 in my log on here:

    St.Pats to win the Premier Division @ 12/1 - 2pts e/w (Ladbrokes)
Longford to win the First Division @ 10/1 - 2pts (Boyles)
    Longford (Betting without Limerick) @ 3/1 - 5pts (Boyles)

Pats are out to 14/1 with a few, and the Longford (w/o Limerick) is in to 2/1.

    Drogheda vs Rover

Rovers -1 @ evens with PP

fancy rovers to cover the handicap away at drogheda, rovers have been on great form pre-season beating waterford 8-1 last friday, really have a great squad this season

Good price there for Longford w/o Limerick Gavin.
Fancy Sligo for the League myself but probably won't touch an outright bet.
Lots of quality in the premier division this year.

I personally can't see Sligo doing it, they announced their new manager tonight who has little mangerial experience. Gerry Carr said he'll leave if he wasn't appointed manager and well I can see the rest of the backroom leaving. So this will be a new manager and backroom staff coming into a club where the team has already been purchased for them and their first match is in 3 days.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,101 ✭✭✭AidySevenfold

Ah yeah just heard about their new manager there now.
    Don't fancy them as much.
Hard to rule out with N'do,Cretaro,North and Quigley in your side though.
Richie Ryan is a big loss.
Apparently they have signed or are signing Conor O'Grady back.
He was with us at Finn Harps last season, was good but didn't exactly set the First Division alight.

    Paddy Power Odds:

Division 1 Handicap (All teams 11/2)

    Limerick
    Waterford +17
    Longford +21
    Mervue +33
    Harps +38
    Athlone +38
    StD Galway +41
    Wexford +52
more or less the difference last season (to limerick) with waterford being 24 behind, longford 26, mervue 32, harps 38, athlone 34, wexford 52, sathill 55.
could be favouritism but id fancy Harps, we finished +38 on them last year but we shouldnt have the woeful first third of a season again. (2pts from the first 10games or thereabouts)... then again we start in limerick!

    Monaghan to finish bottom 7/4
Cork city to finish in the top 6 4/7(Great bet defo worth a ton)

Did Limerick manage to hang onto the 2 CSKA loans?

Monaghan looks a good bet, lost they're best players to Drogs and replaced with nothing special.
The Cork bet, you'd be better off going with the handicap market, either way imo they'll struggle, they have no fire power at all.
Did Limerick manage to hang onto the 2 CSKA loans?

Don't think so, all a PR stunt.

Think the 2 bets I'm going to do for tomorrow are
    Longford @5/4
    Derry @ 8/15
    Cork @ 5/6

    just over 5/1

    Shams -1 @5/6
    St.Pats -1 @11/10

Posting them early as might be heading for Jackman Park tomorrow and probably won't be on if I do.

I'll be threading carefully for a few weeks before I start getting heavily involved.

Cork City plenty short enough away to UCD.

Derry look to be very strong again this season and I don't see Bohs getting anything but a football lesson up there this evening.

In the 1st division SD Galway @ 5/2 away to Athlone is worth a look. They have hoovered up some of United's players from last season and look to be making a push this season.

dundalk great price to beat monaghan..... Dundalk have been beaten in the league cup twice in mons but that was because foster put out weak teams reckon mccaffrey wont take any chances tonight and were is monaghan to finish bottom 7/4 bet with think that is great price

Cork City plenty short enough away to UCD.

Do yous have any strikers available tonight?

My 3 bets for tonight as posted in my log are:

St. Pats, Mervue and Monaghan all BTTS @ 5.5/1
    Rovers -1, Limerick -1 and Cork @ 4.15/1
Pats, Derry and Dundalk @ 4.2/1

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,126 ✭✭✭rossit

anybody think waterford are a good price tonight to beat wexford .i know waterford are no world beater but wexford got beat by the local oscar traynoe team 5 -1. so i think even -1 at 15/8 looks good. best of luck to all great to have the league back

Hey most of you lot dont know me but i had a good run on LOI last year (with a little help from boards) and have decided to post my bets here like everyone else

I have 3 bets on for tonight, have decided to stay away from D1 for a week or 2 to see how it pans out

    Bet 1
    Shamrock Rovers
    Derry City
    St Pats
    all to win @ 3.00

    Bet 2
    Rovers - 1
    Derry - 1
    Double @ 5.49

    Bet 3
    Rovers Over 1.5 Goals
    Derry Over 1.5 Goals
    Double @ 3.03

Anyway good luck all (Think we are going to miss Galway this year)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,314 ✭✭✭BOHtox

I wouldn't be so confident in Derry myself. Bohs or draw is 11/10 and looks more appealing to me. In our two games so far we pissed all over Portadown who are 2nd, or around that, in the Irish League

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 542 ✭✭✭crustyjuggler

    Limerick (- 1) 8 / 15
    Shamrock ( - 1 ) 5 / 6
    Cork City 5 / 6
    Derry City 4 / 7
    St Pats 2 / 5
    Waterford 8 / 11
    Longford 6 / 5
    Shels V Sligo draw 11 / 5

Sd Galway looks tempting at 2 / 1 . They beat Cork City last week . Anyone know anything about them or the standard of Athlone this season .

I was keeping tabs on the SD Galway game on Extratime.ie, seems the two goals they got were two set pieces which they seemed to look dangerous from. Athlone lost their keeper to Mons not sure about the rest of their squad.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,071 ✭✭✭✭wp_rathead

Extratime.ie make it sound like Athlone v SDG will be good for Under 2.5 @ 10/11

not betting but keeping an eye on it- going to wait for few set of fixtures before get a feel of the season

Shamrock Rovers should win easily tonight.

    Rovers (-2) is 12/5

Rovers have scored 14 in their last 5 meetings, Drogheda have scored 0 :p

Limerick could get 1 or 2 more against Harps here, they're main centre half Cowen was taken off before half time and taken to hospital. Limerick are ment to be well on top this half aswell.

o'hagen probably slotted into cowan's place so it wont make too much of a difference to the back 4. Clarke will make harps more attacking and he just scores!
what odds would ya have got on wexford to be 3 up v waterford tho?!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 54,943 ✭✭✭✭Headshot

They sure like the red cards

Doesn't seem like it was a successful night for many.
Result at Wexford-Waterford explains it all really.

Can't believe Derry never scored a second

Sligo and Shams look decent for tonight, Bohs possibly too. Wait till the teams are announced imo.

As for the weekend, it's going to be a minefield! Sligo, Shams and Longford treble is all that sticks out so far.

I'm throwing Finn Harps in. Travelled to Limerick and we had a very spirited performance and should have had a point. Team is very up for this game and should beat Mervue at home. Crowd spurred them on and were going to make as much noise as possible :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,101 ✭✭✭AidySevenfold

Harps 6/5 @ home. Will stick a bit on this.
Might stick longford or derry in @ 4/7 and 4/6.

    Havent seen much other value.

    Bray v Derry

    Previous 5 meetings in Bray:
Fri 15/07/11 PRL Bray Wanderers 1 - 2 Derry City
Fri 01/04/11 PRL Bray Wanderers 1 - 2 Derry City
Mon 28/06/10 FAC Bray Wanderers 3 - 2 Derry City
Fri 28/08/09 PRL Bray Wanderers 0 - 1 Derry City
Fri 17/04/09 PRL Bray Wanderers 1 - 1 Derry City

    Over 2.5 in last 3/5 games @ 2.3 with Bet 365
BTTS in last 4/5 games @ 2.38 with William Hill
    2 or 3 goals in last 3/5 games @ 2.83 with Coral

    ----
Iv Gone for 2 or 3 goals with Bet365 at 20/21 (not signed up to Coral)

Have 2 trebles on for tonight

    Rovers
    Derry
    Limerick
    All to win @ 2.75

    and

    Rovers Over 1.5
    Derry Over 1.5
    Limerick Over 1.5
    @ 4.27

Also very temped by Wexford @ 2.4 to beat SD Galway
Wexford put 6 past Waterford last week and SD Galway lost 2-1 to Athlone
2.4 seems like a very big price

Got bored there and decided to research the 2 or 3 Goals market based on last season

2011 Season, percentage of games which was 2or3 Goals:
    Team__ Home __Away
    Derry___44%___67%
    Sligo___56%___50%
    Pats___39%___56%
    UCD___67%___28%
    Sham___28%___44%
    Bohs___44%___61%
    Drog___39%___67%
    Dun___50%___28%
    Bray___56%___39%

my bet of Bray v Derry looks decent as 56% of Brays home games 67% of Derry's away games had 2or3 goals last season
obvo there is alot of other variables to take into account but it could be handy

    €20 on St. Pats Athlethic -1 @ 3/1

Threw Finn Harps and Derry in a treble with Wrexham.
    Don't really know why, haha.

Avoiding this like the plague from now on! Limerick assemble by far the strongest side in the league, Waterford lose 6-0 to a mediocre side, so to make up they then go on to beat Limerick. How are you suppossed to win a few pound!

Top of the table Longford? Hmmm

Yeah Harps were the bet of the weekend.

Thinking we might sneak 3 points against Athlone on Friday, there's a full bus load of us going to it.

Tonight Shams are 4/7 to beat Bohs. Relatively good price, but does anyone know what kind of team they are going to play?

If you look at my log on here I backed them at 10/1 to win the League and backed them w/o Limerick at 3/1. :D

Shams were 13/10, serious drop. Best off waiting till the teamsheets are out but Owen Heary will be taking charge of the match for Bohs so that means most likely it will be Under 19's for them.
