Only go out on a Sat nite and always have 6 bottles of corona before i head out and then anywhere between 8 - 12 jagerbombs over the course of the nite. Dont think thats bad at all tbh.

    €188 divided by €4.20 a pint = 44 pints a week

I'd drink more only for these stupid cuts the last few years.

Would you not... just buy a normal drink to sip on at all?

I'm avoiding drink at the moment cos I don't want to undo all my hard work in the gym, but if I was drinking on a typical night I'd have about 3 pints and 2 or 3 shots or Jagerbombs. If I went to a party after the pub I'd be drunk enough at that stage that I'd just nurse a can for the rest of the night. It amazes me how much some people, especially guys, can drink - I've seen my ex go through 10 pints and nearly as many shots and be in the same state that I'd be in after 2 pints, i.e. a bit tipsy but completely coherent. Alcoholism runs in his family though so I guess genetics play a part in your tolerance too.

I think everybody should go back and edit their post to include how much they spend on drink in a week :P. I propose the following format....

I drink 1 bottle of wine per week (~€8).

Gradually reduce the amount of mixer you use and you'll find yourself drinking straight, or near straight, vodka.

You'll still use a bit of mixer most of the time but when there's no mixer available you won't need one and you certainly won't resort to syrup :P.

    Plus it's cheaper.

Reminds me of Paddy's day 2 or 3 years ago, good times.

Someone has been frequenting Jerusalme/Palestine/Magdala street also???

****ing hell that's got to be expensive. Buy a bottle of jagermeister and do the jagerbombs before you go out.

    Nah, Kilmurry village in UL.

When we got told to bring the couches back in we made grooves in the bushes and sat there for the afternoon, the innovative students that we were :P

Like I queried with the doctor when registering a couple of months ago, "how do you quantify that?"

i wouldn't have a drink every week, thinking about it now it could be every 3 or 4 weeks. in saying that, it's good that I have the units saved up for when I'm back in Dublin. . .units work like that, don't they???? ;)

Elm Park - couches on the garage roof. In & out through bedroom window. Awesome stuff on sunny days!

3-4 bottles of beer once every 3-4 weeks. Roughly 1 bottle a week then, clocking in at about €5 a week.

I do most of my drinking at home, usually 2 nights a week at 10ish pints per night.

If I'm heading out, Ill have 6 cans before I think about leaving the house, Ill then feed the pigeons, I sometimes feed the sparrows too, gives a me a sense of enormous well being.

I used to always think I drank more when I was 17 or 18, downing the harder stuff like Jack D etc. but its only recently I have noticed I can pour a good 10 pints of Guiness into me about 3 nights a week along with a few spirits to knock it back.

I'm 23 now and I finally had to make a decision to start to cut it out. Why? Well for one for stomach is in ribbons. Doctors have told me an ulcer will develop pretty quickly if I'm not careful. My hands never..and I mean never stop shaking. Which is weird. I'm not an alco, just like my beer over the weekend.

Two...money. Havent spent a penny on normal things in years.

Three...it can make you seriously depressed after a few years. Or to be better defined...it can make the depressing things in your life multiply x100. Or so it seems.

Four...I'm starting to get blackouts when I'm out. Not a good thing. Either I'm a total ar*ehole anyway, or drink is now starting to make me one.

    Moral of the story -

Everyone has different amounts of drink they can handle, but be careful and recognise when your body has had enough.

My mission is to cut it down to one-night per week and start enjoying a few other things in life. :D

I find myself drinking a lot more over the last four months or so. Before that with work and GAA commitments I'd only drink after a championship match with either the club or after the county team played, and maybe on the odd Thursday night during the summer. Everything was rosy then and my parents weren't questioning my drinking.

Now with the GAA commitments on hold for the year, and work commitments having dried up for the time being, (and indeed having broken up with the gf) I find myself drinking every Saturday night and Sunday night. Three euro pints in my two regular drinking holes, leaves me spending around 60 euro a weekend (ten pints per night).

Of course, the parents now believe I have a drinking problem. They'd rather have me staying at home alone like a recluse than actually be out with friends socialising. Thing is I get fairly depressed staying at home, and with relationship problems, work worries and crucial exam results imminent I have a lot on my mind, but also feel depressed when the hangover hits Monday morning. Vicious circle.

I would have thought the odds of getting blackouts would reduce as the body adjusted to the amount of alcohol being consumed.

I've cut way back, only drink about 4-5 pints/bottles a week now. If even that.
Spend about 30 euros on drink a week max

My nephew works in country pub, a retired farmer, mid 60s, spends all day every day drinking, his daily consumption is about 20 pints of Guinness with a few whiskeys thrown in.

2 glasses of red on a friday night in, still leaves me feeling groggy the next day.
Back in the day half bottle of vodka before going out, then the pints in the pub, followed by more pints in the club didnt knock a stir outta me!

You'd swear AH has turned into some sort of support group lol.

There is no such thing as too much, everyone is different. If you are concerned with how much you drink, then cut down. Simples really ;)

I'll admit I haven't read through the entire thread, so I wasn't replying in relation to alcoholism. I took it as someone who was just a tad concerned with how much they drink.

20 500ml bottles or cans spread out over the weekend.
Never pisswater, always good strong beers, that have a decent taste.
There is a very good off licence a 5 minute drive away which helps.
If the pubs sold decent beer I might frequent them.

Yeah its a bit of a strain on the wallet alrite, usually spend about 100 euro on a nite out between the beer before hand, drink at the pub, a take-away and a taxi home. It fukin madness when i think about it!
