    1.5 million = 18 years

The "bloke" on the dole was never going to pay back 1 million.

That still doesn't address the issue that we are punishing this guy for defrauding the state and the taxpayer by taking yet more again from the taxpayer to punish him.

The logic is so stupid its unfathomable.

This is the most unjust and ridiculous sentence ever handed down by our "justice" system..

I think it is actually more morally wrong that Mary Hanafin, Bertie Ahern, Mary Coughlan etc all take pensions of >120K from the State that they helped destroy...

Very true this country is just so wrong in every way possible, corrupt to the very core and we all know it..

So do I ... but that doesn't mean I think Tax Fraud is alright, because politicians take obscene pensions.

One does not justify the other.

How many bankers have been jailed? They've cost the tax payers tens of billions, not a million. I'm not saying he shouldn't be punished, but there seems to be something off about the justice system in relation to this case.

If the evidence exists to convict the bankers then they should and will be convicted.

    If it doesnt they wont

Aside from a rogue caller getting through, the words The Mahon Report will never be uttered on Liveline as long as Joe is in charge.

Then who cares what these people opinions are and why are we being forced to listen to it?

That's Liveline for you....not being forced though. Do you like old rock music?

the dole cheat only got 248,000.

And you are missing the point,it has nothing to do with the money, its supposed to act as a deterrent.

    Maybe it will after this.

    I kinda chuckled to myself

Joe is nice and cushy with his contract

He doesn't understand Chinese economic warfare

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,536 ✭✭✭AngryBollix

If he didnt get caught he'd still be dodging tax

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,324 ✭✭✭Suzie4

    Well said caller.

    Duffy you are a fool.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,730 ✭✭✭europa11

Good point here. If Ireland was producing garlic and someone was evading the levy on cheaply produced Chinese imports where would Joe's sympathy lie then?

  • Registered Users Posts: 143 ✭✭JoeGil

The whole programme sounds rigged. All the neighbours are calling in.

    "I don't like prison"

I don't think you're supposed to like it.

The state is taking a hell of a long time to manufacture its case - I hope it's worth the wait.

Why are we comparing a manslaughter case with tax evasion?
