You get docked just like you would if they were over 400kg

How much will you get docked for overweight carcasses?

I'm not sure. Some of the lads here know. I don't have that problem ha!!

Fair enough. I like the way they use the excuse of "market requirements driven by consumer demand" for cutting the carcase weight. I wonder will this affect the price finishers are prepared to pay for continental cattle?

It's there excuse for everything, smaller cuts etc?
Hard to know about the finishers , to a certain extent I'd say yes

As I said earlier the when the factory buys in pennies the farmer still buys in pounds. The good continental always gets a rob relative to other types and always will.

These girls were a summer from finishing. This was a by hand price in the yard.

    well lads

If the over kill of 100k is complete by Aug. Does that mean that cattle will be in short supply and the price might increase??

Probably not. The factories have plenty of cattle in there feed lots to balance out for a while IMO

3.80 planned for bullocks next week Liffey meats and Dunbia.. And the grass cattle are starting to appear now. What will the job bottom out at lads? I'm guessing aound the 3. 60 mark.

If it hits that it will not be for too long IMO. Kill is very high at present. See different figures for excess cattle this year. I taught that there was 100K at start of year on CMS. Young bull kill is up 13K and cows up 7K at present and overall kill is up 83K.

If we take away extra cows (farmers reducing supply) and young bulls( next years cattle that leaves 63K extra killed. we are killing at the rate of 5.5K/week. Over the next few week what will matter is how many decided to target higher June price and how many of these were from July/August suppliers. Factory's are holding back Friesians I hear, is this because these are least libel to go over fat.

Only fly in the ointment is the heifer kill up 30K. However this could be owners targeting June. If the kill continues as is we will kill over 200K extra cattle this year where will they all come from sums are not adding up.

There is a backlog here locally of 2 weeks. They can pull the price. They will pull the price and they are pulling the price. There is no point in trying to do a George lee type analysis on kill figures. Last years beef price was a bubble blew up off the horse meat scandal. Normal service has resumed. We will not see 4 euro a kilo again until this time next year at best.

Surely carcass weight reduction will mean they need more heads to make the kilos required, so not really accurate to count heads as a measure of the kill.

on another note I've been to the factory three times in the last fortnight and the holding pens looked sparse other than the day I dropped off cows made two trips one morning with heifers, and only saw one other guy dropping stock

TBH all I gave was an analysis of what the cattle figures are. Everybody is talking about how may extra cattle are in the country we are getting through them fast. Like I said only issue is heifers, if farmers are not replacing cows it will skew the figure for the whole year then the factory's will control the kill for rest of year.
