Sent off 16 bullocks yesterday. Priced at 3.85/kg. Should get the factory report this afternoon. My dad reckon they were the finest group we've sent off in 15 years. Hoping for at least 8 U's and 8 R's. Maybe 10 U's . Great year for putting weight on cattle.

Do you not ring in the late afternoon of the day of slaughter. While you may not get the prices you will get the weights and grades. Most processors will not also email you the results on the day of slaughter as well.

Too busy with the day job and at silage. Second cut going in tomorrow that i mowed on Wednesday. And i dont think ringing will change what i get for them. All i know so far is that there was 9 U's and 7 R's. I'll have a look at the weights when i get the silage baled up.

Agent rang at 12 today, said the price is back next week and he has space for 6 bullock, and did we want to fill it?. Looked at the 2 groups we have, rang him back to say we have 6 ready to go and sent them off today at 7pm. 3U's we reckon... 4 if I'm lucky.

Got a quote for load of steers for next week. 3.75. Anyone getting more? That’s a pull of 5c per week for the last number of weeks and I’m told it has not bottomed out yet. August has come early this year...

Got 3.85 at the start of last week. I’d be in no panic to kill if ages are ok. You never know, August might be a different story but my optimism is running out at this stage. Waiting on numbers to drop since last November and still no sign,

I’m the same got 3.85 last week. This weeks quote is 3.80 and that’s what I thought I’d be getting next week but they have pulled another 5c out. The double whammy is the weight limits. To me that’s the true indicator that they know they have the wind in their sails..

In a yard lately still over 100 head inside in the shed. Supposed to be a good few like that. Feeding cattle inside the month of July what are lads thinking.

Only collecting something there so did not want to be nosy. Cannot understand it, he si buying in baled silage to feed them. Would have a good few cattle out grazing as well but was surprised he had that many cattle in the shed most looked at or near finish.

Some lads bought cattle in feb/March to finish because the factories put out the rumors that they’d have no cattle in June. I inquired about a price but none was on offer.
Saying that I’ve a few bulls that were bought in the spring for the under 16 months job still in.

Killed 10 28month FR/FRX today..average weight 357kg d/w. (Some weighed almost 380kg) Mixture of O and P. All Fat score 3 and 4. Average price €3.57. Only got meal in the last 2 months... 2 kg a day. The auld Fr is great to weigh. They never got meal since they were calves. Would have made 70/80 euro more two weeks ago but them is the breaks.

Agree. Even with the poor price, at the moment, if you don’t have good weight they’ll make nothing

Where did you get the killed pm me if you like as it is often too easy to identify someone from a factory name. You must have got a good few O= to average 3.57 it is only 18c below a 3.75 base.
