I agree with you but others earlier in the thread had a different opinion which on further research made interesting reading

No still waiting here. I only placed 107 on HR though so it's only for my own information purposes!

Out of the 100 people that were selected to submit an application form, do we know how many were called for the presentation/interview?

I think, only for economics mind you, that they asked more like 200 for application forms because with the new unit in public expenditure and reform there may be more economics posts than the other 5 sub campaigns. Not sure how many got called to interview, think they ran for 6/7 days. I'd imagine they may have interviewed 60 or thereabouts.

I got an email this afternoon telling me I hadn't made it past the interview :(

Then 2 hours later I got a call telling me to ignore the email. Apparently they've sent out rejection letters to about 200 people who shouldn't have got them.

The woman I was speaking to told me the banking and finance results would be out later this week!

Bit crazy. I'm glad it wasn't the other way around and I thought I'd passed the interview!

    How high is reasonably high?

Not as high as the top 10 but not as low as 20; did you get placed? Hoping there will be quite a few posts since there will likely be some in both the new unit in PER and in existing units in finance

Not as low as 15 but not as high as 30!

Just wondering when we can expect calls.

I guess it'll be reference contact details forms in the coming days.

The thing is with economics/tax policy/banking + finance there'll likely be some people that finish high on 2 of the 3 and so others will move up a few places and there'll probably be some who just decide not to take a position (not many I'd say!)

Ah the civil service! Between this and the text that was sent out a few weeks ago, I'm beginning to wonder if we are all mad to go for these jobs!

Hi just noticed this thread! Ive been placed on the panel for banking and finance and for economics but does anyone know how many positions are available in either? Its all a bit vague...

My impression is that there will be more in the economics stream, that information is being kept under wraps by the PAS understandably (they can't be sure how many Finance will request initially and down the line so better to not commit); I'm in for a couple of the other sub campaigns too but I've always felt I'd a better chance in the economics stream than the others based on the fact that I'm more suited to it and that there will probably be more posts in it. I'm basing that on the new unit/service in public expenditure and reform.

Which did you finish higher in/ which are you more interested in?

I placed higher in banking and finance than economics, but would prefer economics. Not that I would be complaining to get a call about banking and finance.
How bout you? What other sub-campaigns you in? Is economics your best placed?
I found a press release about the irish government economic and evaluation service and at the end it said initially 20-30 positions would be available.

I placed higher in economics than banking and finance, not sure if it's high enough though. Hopefully might get an interview for tax policy as well.

The thing about the economic and evaluation 20-30 numbers is that includes the senior staff taken from finance to head it up and some existing civil servants with relevant experience and qualifications taken in by transfer or secondment so not sure how many of the 20-30 will be new AOs. Still between that and AO posts in existing finance units and in the dept of public expenditure/reform, there may be quite a few economics posts, more than the other sub campaigns I'd say since to my knowledge there is no new unit for the other 5 specialisms (I know there is a larger banking/finance unit now alright)

Higher than top 10 but less than 20. We're only 2 examples of people placed on more than 1 panel so there will definitely be some movement forward for people

Yeah good point, a guy in my class was also placed on banking and finance panel but he's waiting to hear back from another interview, he said he'll take the other place over this if he gets it. Hopefully there will be a lot of movement :)

Did anyone from the Economcis campaign get any indication on how Econometrics will be involved in the day-to-day?

I remember being tole that sometime you are given academic articles etc and will be expected to understand them but was wondering if that would be the extent of it.

Does anyone know how the HR sub campaign is progressing? Thinking of ringing tomorrow, would like an update from them at this stage!!

They didn't say anything like that to me during the interview, mine must have been very different to yours! Through my competency examples I did go through my general quantitative skills and experience including understanding econometrics so maybe that was covered enough in their opinion. I wasn't told much about the role at all come to think of it. Maybe should have asked more questions including the real burning 1 - how many are they taking on in the economics campaign roughly? Any idea?

Just wondering if you would need to actually use Stata for the position really.

EDIT: No idea but you are fine at top 10 I would have thought.

Don't know which package Finance use, I know the CSO use SAS not Stata so maybe that; I'm sure knowledge in one package would translate over.

If its only top 10 I'm out so hopefully more...

I meant that in an "at least" kind of way.

Also wondering if actually using statistical software is part of the job spec at all.

Yes questions that should have been asked.

Times like this I wish I knew an AO.

Still no word back in relation to the law sub-campaign. Hopefully they haven't changed their minds about it!
