    Tax Policy emails just out....

Did they say how many they are calling?

Nothing in my inbox just yet. Hopefully some good news will great me in my inbox in the morning :)

Is it a similar form to the economics one. That is, concentrating more on academic quals and work exp ? Or is it an interview prep form ?

Typical. The tax applications come out the day after I accept a tax position in the private sector.

Having spent the last 4 years working the the Australian public sector I think it's time to try the other side of the coin...although if the PS recruitment process had been shorter who knows what I would have done.

Good luck to everyone who's still in!

Good luck in the job ! Personally, I think they are moving very quickly for this competition.

I'm sure there will be more competitions in a couple of years if you get tired of the "other side" :)

Did you get an invite to stage 3 ? What position were you in the tax policy ?

It's all relative I suppose. It's quick for the Irish PS but it's still a long and drawn out process. Even the fact that it's referred to as a 'competition' really annoys me.

I did get the email for Stage 3 and I was 38 in tax policy. It's a similar form to the banking/finance one. Fewer buzz words that you have to relate your experience to though.

Are they definitely out? There is nothing in my inbox either. We all got the e-mails at the same time for the banking and finance whether progressing or not?

As this stage involves the sending of a mail - instead of an automated message to your publicjobs account, it might take a while to send all the mails ?

    That's what I'm hoping for anyway :)

Id say they take a bit longer to get through everyone as the emails arent automated as ye mentioned. Defo got my one anyway

Got mine too. Will fill it in at the weekend.

Anyone have their banking interview yet? Do the presentations require specialised knowledge or are they job simulation or something? Just wondering so I can get an idea as to what to expect at the tax interview (should I be lucky enough to get one)

  • Registered Users Posts: 447 ✭✭delricyo

They are only taking 100 to the next stage of tax policy

    F**k it :(

Seems to be the same for them all. Nothing to say that they won't open it up further later on

yeah, got mine there and have filled it out today and sent it back. hopefully i'll fare better in this than in the economics one, no joy at next stage with that :(

I had my Banking interview yesterday morning.

The presentation didn't require any specialist knowledge. You're given a briefing pack on which to make your decision and told to base your findings entirely on what's in the pack and not use outside knowledge.

It wasn't too bad. They ask some tough questions and challenge you to back up everything you say but I wouldn't expect anyless really.

Interview itself was only about 35 min.

They told me that as far as they knew it was the last stage and if I reached the qualifying mark in both the interview and presentation then I would be on the panel. They did seem a bit unsure though so it's not definite.

On the panel? Does that mean you then have to wait for a vacancy to open up? Which would mean even after passing the aptitude test, application form, presentation and interview, you arent guaranteed a job in the near future.

    Well thats fantastic news!

They said the same to me in my interview about forming panel. And that they didnt have a clue how many jobs there will be

loooooollllll!!! I'm waiting on news from the HR campaign. I'm doing a dual masters in Belgium - European Labour Studies. So having already travelling home for the tests, if I'm fortunate enough to get an interview, I'll have to go home again (It's almost exam time) and then even if I do well, after all that, I'll only be on a panel!!!? Oh man...So if I get called for an interview on an exam date I'd have to repeat the exam/fail the masters. I think I'd risk it for the possibility of a job...but if it's only to get on a panel that MAY lead to a job...

  • Registered Users Posts: 447 ✭✭delricyo

All CS competitions result in the generation of a panel. Obviously if you are placed 1st on the panel - you are pretty much guaranteed a job.

But you could be 2nd on the panel and there may only be 1 job....

Remember the panels could last 2 years. So you could move up over this period

Thats the way it works for recruitment into the civil service. After doing all the tests, interviews etc you could be waiting up to 2 years if you sucessfully get placed on the panel.

Has anyone who completed stage 3 of the HR campaign heard anything back regarding an interview?

Or has anyone any idea how many people will be eliminated based on the information provided at stage 3?

guys thanks a million for keeping me up to date on this all! I've been watching this thread more than my email account the last few weeks :D Im in Tax Policy and Law competitions but really want the Tax Policy panel! Got the form so Im making my way through it. My current position in the private sector isnt relevant at all to the position, any advice on what I should do in the section where they ask me to relate back to the position applied for?

Also, when called for the Interview, do you do an Interview and the presentation? Or is the interview the actual presentation...?

  • Registered Users Posts: 12 evelyn23

no news is good news I suppose!! Thanks for reply :)

Is that the UCD Masters in HR Management? How did you find the course? My friend was wondering whether she should pick UCD or DCU?

I don't know anything about the DCU masters. However, I would definitely recommend the MSc HRM in Smurfit. The lecturers are fantastic:)

The two are separate. I gave the presentation to two people and the interview was with three others.

I got one today. Blitzed the Numerical reasoning part and the verbal reasoning. Went down a bit in the job simulation part.
I am not sure what the reason of giving this feedback is. Anyone any ideas?

Still waiting on mine, if numerical was actually taken into account I'd definitely be near the top, ****ing strange too that you get a pass or fail when accounting is the competition I applied for, boggles the mind really

I got feedback on finance and banking and was told by how much I missed out on in each section. Its was off no help really tbh:rolleyes:

Not sure if it is true or not but others have suggested that the reason the numerical reasoning is not taken into account is for anti discrimination reasons. You can see some chat about it earlier in the thread.
I am sure that is not the case though and their assertion that numerical reasoning is not important for banking, accounting or tax is valid :D

Valuing numerical reasoning is hardly discriminatory though is it?

Very frustrating waiting for information having sent back the most recent application form about a month ago. If this process continues over the summer you'd expect that some people will be off on holidays and are called for interview!
