Quite right. I'm judging a store by how I was treated as a customer - what's wrong with that exactly?

The only thing in your OP that the lidl staff did wrong was not answer your question "Er, why is everyone staring at me like I've just murdered someone?"
What answer did you think they'd give?
And you walked out because of that! Sounds like you have some serious growing up to do, and if you think walking out and leaving a full trolly there makes you better than the dickheads in the queue, you're very much mistaking.

I'd thank you to stop with the whole 'child out of control' thing. That's complete horsesh!t, so with all due respect, cut it out.

I believe my behaviour was neither shameful (lol) nor embarrassing. It was a reaction to an experience I had that you were not party to. Perhaps it was wrong in your eyes, but It was how I felt at the time and I don't apologise for it.

TBH as the thread continues it appears you were the child out of control.

The fact that you don't apologise for it, even after having the chance to cool down and review your actions just proves how childish you are.

Lucky your child was too young to understand the foolish actions of its mother!

So, what you're saying is..... some Eastern Europeans are nice and..... some are not so nice?

That's a shicking revelation poster Thanks for bringing it to everyone's attention.

it's just as well that isn't the case with Irish people eh?

No, I said in ONE lidi I used to shop in from MY experiences, a good few of the people that were working in there were not friendily however some were friendily aswell. The majority of staff their are eastern european. These are from MY experiences I moved to dunnes because of the better quality, service and value.

There are many eastern european workers in dunnes are they are very helpful and different from the alot of workers that are in that one particular lidl store. Just because I am expressing that staff are not friendily in one particular shop means I am racist.

Lads, who cares how the OP acted. They were treated like a mug even though they were will to spend their hard earned in the store and nobody would accept that.

Actually Tesco has all their comparison prices published in store. Lidl generally is not cheaper (apart from the 2% VAT) and Tesco is better quality.

So, the signs Tesco have up in their shop say they're cheapest...
Well, if the good people of Tesco say so, that's good enough for me

No the signs in Tesco have their price, the lidl price and the dunnes price. Most of the time they're the same price as lidl

It does when you are implying that their nationality is a factor.

Are you implying that their nationality is a factor?

Well I didn't put words in your mouth. You said they were flying towards you here.

    So? What you said was....
Well if people are going to be impatient and push you forward while you are not finishing packing your bags, this behaviour is ignorant because everyone has to pack their bags,

I never at any point said anyone was pushing me forward?

I've never ever seen an independent price report where Tesco is cheaper than Lidl.
And as for quality, the indo has a taste test of a random food product every week, 9 times out of 10, the lidl/aldi product wins and is cheapest.

    Eh?

Who treated them like a mug? Not Lidl.

the OP's problem was with members of the public.

No you just presumed I was implying their nationality as a reason, then you decided that I am racist because many of the staff who are eastern european in ONE certain lidl I used to shop in are not friendily from my experiences. It doesn't matter what a person's nationality is, it doesn't take much to be friendily and helpful it's a human thing.

Man this is tedious! Seems the world is full of judgemental people. People are passing judgement on the OP based on their opinion that she was making judgements of the staff and customers of Lidl- can you see the irony :)
On a lighter note- hmmm Lidl chocolate croissants

Who treated them like a mug exactly?

Well smart comments from other customers and being ignored by staff is being treated like a mug in my opinion.

Didnt you read the OP? She asked a legit question about murdering someone and didn't get an answer. Mug. She should have been within her rights to tip the trolly over and report Lidl to the national consumer agency

Samrt comments by other customers is not being treated like a mug - it's just people being rude.

Being ignored by staff when you ask them why people are staring at you like a murderer is probably more a sympton of confusion by the staff memeber than any deliberate mug-treatment.

Staff in Lidl have a target speed at which they have to scan/enter items per transaction.

If the checkout lady was in the middle of a transaction, I think it's understandable that she isn't willing to get into problems for missing her target by doing... well, what exactly?
I've had people grumbling about the speed at the checkout in many shops, but it never occured to me to complain to the checkout worker about it. What would you expect them to do?

    unwritten lidl rule!

if you have a trolley and i have 4 items or less...for the love of god please let me go first

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,159 ✭✭✭✭phasers

    1. In lidl you're meant to fire your shopping into the trolley and pack over the side.

    2. Staff have to scan a lot of items in a very short time, they don't have time for a nice long chat abot your troubles. The sales assistant may not have been fluent in English either, so she might have just understood the words "murdered someone" :pac:

    3. Stop being so bleedin precious.

As a side note, The staff in my local Aldi are the nicest staff in any supermarket I've ever been to, both the Irish and European staff.

Have to say I actually find the staff in Lidl and Aldi Much friendlier than the likes of tesco or Dunnes, Always a hello. Jus my experience:)

That can't be true can it? What a fkn dumb target!

Things that would have had to happen after OP threw hissy fit and stormed out :

-Operator would have to clear belt of items remaining and not scanned through
    THEN
-Call supervisor to void all items on till that had been rang through, print receipt for cash out accounting
    THEN
    - Explain what happened to Supervisor/Manager ("haven't a clue she mumbled something about murdering someone, but I was so busy scanning items through at required rate I didn't know what to say so stayed schtum and then she bolted out the door")
    THEN
-Call floor staff to replace all items
    THEN
    - Deal with the tutting biddies in the line behind OP who must have gone ballistic at this stage

And you think you had a bad day OP?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,655 ✭✭✭El Inho

also lidl is still the only place ive ever heard a foreign staff member talk like an irish member...

was in one day.."well whats the craic" and conversation continued in such boggarish language!

treated weird by other customers, not lidl itself, and these people "muttering" could have been saying anything

One of the main reasons I love shopping in Lidl and/or Aldi... you get all the time you need to pack your stuff, nobody is going to throw their bag of potatoes onto your bread and lettuce.
Just drop it all back into the trolley, and take all the time you need to pack it proper.

Also, they're the only shops who don't torment you with bad music while you shop.

Yeah, ensuring your staff are working at an efficient speed in order to serve more customers, sell more goods and make more money.

    How dumb!

What do the Germans know about being efficient anyway?

Any chance of some music in Lidl? It's like shopping in some depressing communist place from decades ago. Not that I was ever in such a place, just my impression

Now preferably not what Tesco do which is take popular songs and get some bland singer to murder them all.

But even stick on the radio?
I'm not asking for much :(

Edit, I was told if you want to play the radio in a large workplace or shop you have to pay fees to the licensing body in Ireland. To cut every cost Lidl won't do it
Not sure if that's true or not, makes sense I suppose

What's wrong with being fast at a checkout?

There was a lovely Chinese guy in my local petrol station called Seamus that was like that.
