I, for one, will miss Mixer. I mean, the only time I ever logged in was when there was an event with a Mixpot involved, and yes, 99% of what they gave out for free was pure tat, but still, I got The Outer Wilds for free off it. That alone will make me have fond memories of it.

When Beam first launched I remember streaming games to my friends on it because the lag was less than a second. Discord serves this purpose now but at the time the delay was far superior to Twitch.

Can't wait until accusation pop up about Danny Odwyer. Those banging the drum the hardest always seem to have their own skeletons.

    Randy must be sweating bullets.

It is only a matter of time, the shadiest person in the industry by FAR

Chris Avellone being accused of sexual misconduct and studios distancing themselves from him. Doesn't look good for him. He is responding but not denying allegations. I love his writing in games but this really changes my opinion of him.

I'd say 93% of games currently in development will need to hire a new story writer. He seemed to be involved in everything.

I'm not wishing that to pop up on anybody.
So what he is saying here is that if you ever knew anyone who was ever secretly a sexual predator he is blacklisting you......he has probably unknowingly blacklisted himself as he's interviewed dozens of people in the industry for his own business to profit from.

Would take it as going forward from now but no doubt he'd make exceptions.

Thinking on the industry as whole perhaps it's not coming as any huge shock these pillars are outed as abusive aholes. Huge swathes of the industry as we know it was born from literal college dorm rooms and ran as one big boy club with a baseline inferiority complex - with ad-hoc sloppy management to match - for the better part of 25 years. Can't come as a great surprise that kind of insular environment caused the old "Big Fish, Small Pool" effect on its management / senior figures ...

Plenty of shítty behaviour to go around the whole entertainment industry as a whole, but there's some of the self fulfilling prophecy here. Heck, the poster boy for tech-bro mismanagement not even being part of that umbrella industry, with Uber leading the charge for a terrible reputation top to bottom.

And yeah. Can't see Pitchford escaping the gaze but as CEO he's well insulated. Arguably he should already had the heave ho as it stands...

The CEO can be fired, that position does not insulate him at all. The fact that he does own a large chunk of the joint is what's protecting him, but even so, if he's ever deemed to be bad for businesses he will be "managed out" as they say.

True but there's also something very wrong that no matter how much of a disgusting individual he is as long as he is making the shareholders money he is safe. And that's all that matters, money.

He doesn't own just a large chunk, he's own 50% and has operational control as well.

Well lets just list the things that he has gotten away with zero consequences:

Falsely claimed he came up with Valve's name
Stole funds intended for Colonial Marines from Sega to fund Borderlands
Claimed Gearbox were developing CM when it was really Timegate
Actively sold the press on a 100% fabricated CM demo to secure pre-orders on a game that didn't exist
Used company money for his own uses
Left a flashdrive of cam girl porn and company secrets in a public place
Stole staff bonuses for himself (numerous times)
Assaulted a staff member in a hotel lobby
Regularly lashes out at anyone that criticises him on twitter

I am probably missing a few as well. He is as bulletproof as they come unfortunately.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,787 ✭✭✭Cordell

    Yeah, but Borderlands.

    Yeah, but Borderlands.

I loved the first Borderlands but had completely lost interest by the third. It just seemed like the exact same game as the 10 year old original. That games' particular genre had moved on and left it behind.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,787 ✭✭✭Cordell

Well, yeah, that's, like, your opinion :) Mine is that Borderlands it's a genre in itself and it indeed moved on a bit with every game in the series while still being more of the same, which for me was exactly what I was expecting.

Not entirely bulletproof. He's suffered a good bit in recent years too. After all, he had to do public interviews and try to hype up Battleborn.

So, SayNoToRage has been leading a double life as a nasty predator. Luminosity doing some 5hit too.

    What do you mean?

I'm just saying that promoting a streamer to me, who only plays 1 game, a game that I've never played, or anything in the same genre for that fact, was obvious it was a final push for traction with the platform :)

Its probably a better idea to make a sequel to this Bloodstained game instead of Ritual of the Night

IGN employees (or former employees) coming out with stories on twitter about the abusive management from former managers Steve Butts and Tal Blevins. In particular, Mitch Dyer states that regarding the IGN story about Neil Druckmann and Bruce Straley forcing Amy Hennig out of Naughty Dog, they added that into the story just to throw gossip into it, and it wasn't true at all.

Similar coming out of Insomniac, basically known sexual harassment being ignored.

The composers of the original Deux Ex game have released a remastered/re-imagined version of the soundtrack for anyone interested. Some great remixes of the game.

It's on Spotify if anyone wants to listen to it.

Well, I can only thank once, but that's the link of the day right there :D

And don't know about anyone else, but anytime Deus Ex gets mentioned, I almost always go and reinstall for another playthrough :D

Gonna start this off with a whole load of * as who the **** knows if the reason given is true or not.

    ****************************************

Janne Mikkonen, a Hearthstone streamer/pro got banned by Blizzard from a competition. According to him this wasn't because of anything he did but because his wife who was among the mass layoffs from Blizzard called them out on things. I don't know if she was the central to protesting the layoffs or just 1/800 but in either case he was banned for something he didn't do*.

Not saying that stuff doesn't happen this side of the water, but to me, this is a perfect reflection of the american 'live to work' attitude.

you have folk exploited from day 1, starting with massive student loans, going from that to unpaid internships, to tenuous freelancing , to possibly securing a more steady job.

There's no sick pay, no unions, very little holidays and the attitude is that there's hundreds more lining up to take your place if you decide you dont like how things are done, while you're taken advantage of by the more ruthlessly career focused people above you.

    American Dream me hole.

Some really great games announced yesterday from japan that the mainstream press are just ignoring.

Two that stood out to me are Earth Defense Force 6. Absolutely love this series and it's best co-op experience you can have. It's a bit like borderlands but fun. No PC version announced. Hopefully it's not the year long weight like with EDF5

Then there is Shiren the Wanderer coming to Switch and PC. It was already an extremely late release on vita so good that the game is coming to platforms where it can get the audience it deserves. Apparently this is one of the best rogue likes ever made and going by previous entries in the series I can well believe it, they are all universally amazing.

And lastly there's Darius Cozmic Collection 2 with two games announced for it. A HD remaster of G-Darius and Darius Burst Chronicle EX+.

G-Darius is a contender for greatest shmup ever made and I absolutely adore the PS1 original. Darius Burst Chronicle already got a PC and PS4 release. It's ana amazing game but the full price release scared a lot of people away. Hopefully more games are announced, and hopefully PC versions of the collections, they are games I want to be able to dip back into every now and again and don't want them tied to consoles that will become obsolete eventually.

Also a Switch EDF game announced, using voxel graphics for the characters and enemies called EDF: Earth Brothers.

Unrelated, Pokemon company just announced a Pokemon MOBA for Switch called Pokemon Unite.
