That tender is out a good while now. Loco 230 will be the trail loco for the works and it's external body work repair is finished.

    Has it been re-engined etc?

Nope because it's being used as a test bed for the new EMD CAT engine or whatever Irish Rail decide to go with. More than likely will be the CAT option like the UK class 68s.

May change yet, 230s old engine is currently also being rebuilt.

It may no longer be the test bed due to various issues.

if a re-engining happens, will the old engines be scrapped or sold?

Isnt 201 or 211 been examined?

It might not be possible to sell them because they don't meet Euro 6 requirements. So they'll probably be scrapped.

oh yeah they couldn't be sold to europe. that's a given.
they could be sold elsewhere though.
i would agree though they will probably be scrapped.

Several of the stored 201s have been into the sheds in recent times for complete examinations which involed bogie removals, 201, 205 and 211 are the most recent to be checked.

Following on from 233 two weeks ago, 231 is due to start working the Enterprise from tomorrow following fitment of the MMI system.

That leaves just 216 to be done which will most likely be in the winter.

Are the EVNs on 231 and 233 being reclassified to 0310 or are they still 0210?

They have been 0310 for several years.

All cross border 201s (including 230) are 0310 series except 208, 209 and 216. 208 and 209 come under a different EVN system and 216 is still 0210, it was supposed to be re-registered but never happened.

Ah, silly me. Was probably 216 I was thinking about.

225 now in the ramps undergoing full overhaul.

Another one back from the dead. 225s overhaul is more or less complete and now sporting a fresh coat of paint. Should be on trial in a few weeks after a few minor bits get sorted.

Now which 201 is next (other than 230).....

    Wasn't 211 taken in?

I think your a little over ambitious GM228, I think it will be months rather than weeks you'll see 225 return. not in 2017, maybe early 2018, will be good to see it back.

211 was taken in to help with 225 rebuild, 211 will probably unlikely ever run again.

An article on the drivers' experience of the 66s in the UK.

I wonder how the 201 compares?

The 201 may be different from other CIE / IR locos due to the hi-tech silencer.

All our locos were either GM-EMD or Metro Vickers retro fitted with EMD engines, They all were / are noisy and rough riding.
There was one exception, the Sulzer B101 class. Drivers at the time were reported to like them for their relative comfort

Anyone know why one of the 201 Class locos in the Enterprise livery was heading towards Tara Street over the Loopline Bridge from Connolly on Friday?

That is a long way for a 201 to go on that line, since it is tagged "201 only in emergency" south of Arklow...

That was lifted last year when BGH started operating although its 071s these days.

Edit - not sure a BGH 201 has gone south of Gorey.

Are the bridges or P Way any less solid south of Arklow? or is this just more IR nonsense?

I did a quick google - my recollection was that Shelton Abbey was the problem but things seem to have changed. Don't have access to the full article though.

Of course its preference more than safety. Lines can take a 201 or cannot. Emergency only is a load of crap.

201's have taken specials to and from Wexford in the past. I suppose an aria or two of Verdi is an emergency :)
