I acquired the one in picture on Christmas eve for 450€
It looks a bit better than in pictures but still rough and tired.
Anyway, the engine sounds healthy and is pulling strong so will be used in my 03 one I got while ago. Somebody will then buy the car with no engine from me for 300€. Hopefully the transfer will be done this weekend.

You knocked them from an asking price of €850 down to taking €450?

Fair play for your bargaining skills! :)

    I doubt that.
Factory nav unit and the alloys would be worth more than that alone ;)

    Why?

Weight based the scrap value is nearly €200. Surely someone looking for a few parts will go the extra €100?

Not without an engine it's not ;) Someone would really have to be interested to pay the full 300 euros for that car especially when you look at all the working saabs on this thread going for not much more.

That they may. But people looking at the car won't see it like that. I mean why would I go to the hassle of buying and towing that car away just for the alloys and nav unit when I couls get them for not much more at a breakers.

    Sorry.
Should have explained this straight away.
That somebody owns scrapyard only for Saabs and Volvos in Latvia. Those are very popular cars over there as they can cope with harsh winters no problem.
As there is very little money in the system, second hand parts are on very high demand.
The guy comes to Ireland now and then and picks up 8 Saabs and Volvos at time. (Someone has them prepared already).
The deal is that i take just the engine lump and nothing else. Even turbo, gearbox, throttle body etc. stays.
I have to strip the engine down to bare block and head anyway as the 03' one is running on Trionic7 so all the sensor related stuff will have to be from the newer one.
    Hope this explains more.

Really is an old car now but still georgeous. Take a stab at 700 quid and see if the seller bites!

Aye, way overpriced but can be NCTd now. I'd strike a (for sure I'd get my money back) pass the NCT deal with the owner...

In the same way that a Skoda is an Audi , Chrysler is a Merc and a Ferrari is and Alfa. And thats not me getting defensive either. Like I said before, the sheer stupidy of that comment nets me a bargain every year just because most people think that way. Its great :D

But if anything was gonna tempt me away from my bargain Saabs, it might just be one of these Talbots .....

Why won't the dealer NCT it though? There is only one month left on it as is.

    Not your ornery onager

Because you can then sell off bits of the rest of the car so that the net result is that you get free alloys and factory nav unit?

Maybe its just the way I am, but thats how I'd be looking at it. :)

The way i see it is unless you have a jeep and a trailer your going to have to put it up on a tow truck to get it home which would cost a few bob. All your left with at the end of the day is hassle imo.

You have a very valid point. I have a 4x4 and access to a trailer so maybe thats why my mind works the way it does :D

TBH the engine woudn't be worth much, a nice straight body shell etc would be worth a lot more :p

It was the scrap metal weight I was on about :)

A breaker will give nowhere near 300 for a car with no engine. The engine is always worth something to them even if it's kaput because there are still many good parts on the engine like the altanator and starter and various other bits like sensors etc that can be sold. After that the engine can be sold for scrap along with the bodyshell.

75's still have value if they are well looked after.

I know I sold a good one not so long ago

250bhp for only €850, not bad. Pity about the lack of pics.

    Found this today

    http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/4330456

A little overpriced but looks to be a very clean example of a V6 156 and it looks very clean and seems to have been well minded. Try and bag it for 800 and you're laughing...

    That's dripping wet.

More like bag it for 800 and he's laughing.

Why do you think that? Genuine question like, it looks very well minded indeed for a 15 year old car. I'd imagine it has a very comprehensive service history too.
