Sections are tricky...I think its how they stitch you back together...my first section I had no problems at all with...this time the scar is taking forever to heal. And even now 3 months later I get pains in it. But I know women who still suffered from bad pains 6 months down the line

So I don't know how severe your pain is, but I would say it could be fairly normal for it not to have healed yet. But you're doing the right thing getting it checked.

The hospital should have sent you home with a prescription for paracetemol? Don't forget to use it, particularly with the cough..ouch!

Thanks Hannibal, the thought had crossed my mind that we might end up going backwards when no. 2 arrives.
I tried her again this morning with her nappy off/potty beside her, but she doesn't have a clue what to do with the potty & isn't too keen on it.

Its a cheapo one I picked up in Tescoes but has a bit that sticks up on the front.
I don't think she's so keen on the potty so I'm going to pick up a flat top one and wait til no. 2 arrives to try again.
I'm going to be at home plenty then anyway, makes a bit more sense to try then.

Hopefully your little guy will keep up the good work and you can leave the nappies behind you :)

Have you tried those seats that fit on the toilet rather than the potty? Our fella prefers that to the potty...makes him feel like he's a grown up. Might be worth considering for when the time comes?

Hi ladies, just a quick question.. I know some of you have had sections recently & was wondering at the 2 week Mark were you all still in alot of pain? We were at the PHN today as Nathan had to be weighed again & she wreckens it's not normal & I have to go back to GP this afternoon.. I have a very sharp stinging pain everytime I move in my right side especially, it also hurts when I cough or sneeze (this cold isn't helping) I'm not looking for medical advise or anything as I'm going the Doc this afternoon but just wondering o anyone else has experienced this?

I was in pain for about 8 weeks after my section. For the first 4 weeks it was a constant niggly pain, then for the next four weeks it was the odd tinge if i twisted funny, coughed etc. Sometimes it nearly felt like I could feel the internal stitches dissolving and the muscle knitting back together! STrange feeling :/
FUnny, most of my pain was on the right side as well!
ONce I got past the 8 or 10 week mark I felt completely fine though.

I can't imagine having pain after that kind of surgery to be unusual at all.

Thanks Liliq & Hannible! Makes me feel better to know I'm not alone! I got Paracetemol & Diafene but I finished the Diafene after a week, I'm taking the Paracetemol religiously but it doesnt do a whole lot... Will see what the Doc says! It's especially hard with a newborn to take care of!

Tigeress, i had the same pains more or less - even now at 6 weeks i get the odd twinge. do get it checked out though, better to be safe and all that!

doing well here, just surviving the 6 weeks growth spurt - lots of feeding and a very clingy baby! learned to do a lot of things with one hand while carrying a baby in the other...:D

Thanks Galah, I got strong painkillers off the Doc today and some Anti-Inflamatorys so hopefully they'll help! It almost feels like I'm tearing on the inside (if that makes sense) when I move.. It's not always there but when it is it's insanely painful!
Those 6 weeks flew by! Glad you're doing so well :) it's mad what ya have to learn to do one handed lol!

    Hey Lady's

I'm new here, quite literally. I'm actaully writing from Cincinnati, Ohio. So why am I'm writing to you? On an chat site in Ireland. Well we are moving there, to Dublin. My husband has gotten an medical intership in Dublin, which will be for a year. Then well be working there as full time surgeon there after. (That's the short version) We will be moving there in the next 6 months. In an effort to familiarise myself with the area I thought I would say hi, and well I don't know anyone there. We have a little girl Sarah, Born January 6th born 7 pound 5 ounces.

I want to send on my very best for all your new little bundles. And was really nervous about saying hello this way. All the way from another country, but excited too. This I guess is my way of preparing for the big move. I know I will be little out of place and even though you don't know me and most likely will never meet me in person. I thought this would be a fun and easy way for me feel a little more at home when we do officially set up and make our new home as a family.

Anyway enough prattling about me. Congratulations to you all for your newborns, I look forward to hearing all about them and your adventures, and hope you welcome onto this site and allow me to laugh and enjoy the adventures of discovering motherhood.

    Jenni

Congrats on your daughter, I hope all is going well for you.
SOunds like it's going to be an eventful year for you with a new baby and a big move! I'm sure you'll find lots of support on boards.ie... it's great for loads of things! :D

Welcome Jenni! I've a 2.5 year old and an 8 week old and have also had a house move recently, but nothing on a transatlantic scale so best of luck with it! When you do arrive, keep an eye on Boards as sometimes meet-ups are organised. I haven't made it to one yet unfortunately as I live miles from anywhere :-(
It can be hard when you have small kids as a lot of us Irish do our socialising in the pubs and then go off-radar for a couple of years when the kids are small. You can join a parent-child group though once you get here, and most parents are open to chatting in the play parks so try if you can to find a place to live that has facilities nearby. Keep us informed on the move, and keep posting here!

We're not all ladies here! :)
Best of luck with the move Jenni- I know how daunting it can be travelling with a young baby. Also suggest you post a thread possibly in the US and Canada travel forum- or the US Regional thread here for suggestions of little things to bring with you.

    Best wishes,

Shane, Aoife, Shane Jnr and Baby Helen

    Hello to all,
Thank you for the warm welcom and hello capriliocious, liliq, Cat Melodeon, smcarrick, Hannibal Smith & Tigeress. Please accepts my humblest appoligies Smcarrick :) plus any other dad's here. I look forward to chatting with you all.

I re-read the whole thread to bring myself up to speed and realised that I'm not familiar with some of the terminology. What is a Php?

As for boobs shrinking. I envy those of you for which this is the case. I still remain to be walking, talking Dolly Parton look a like, while the male of the household is very appreciative of this, I have reminded him it's early days yet. And I find myself looking forward to the shrinkage.

Sarah today hit the 1 week old mark, and each day I look at her amazed. I have known her but a week and just met her in person but I didn't know I could love someone so unquestionably & such little time. I mean, my guy yeah it was quick and he never ceases to amaze me and each day I feel lucky, but this? Well, I'm just really, really happy. Maybe it's the hormones, maybe it's because we were told that we could never have and yet we did and we regard her as miracle. (And have always regarded all children as such). Maybe it's just because we are now parents just that's how you feel about your little one, or a combination of all of the above.

Anyway, so far we have been lucky. Sarah likes to sleep through the night so far. The trick is getting her to fall asleep, we haven't quite mastered that yet. She remains awake all day, but once we try to put her down she protest until she is too exhausted to cry anymore. I wish I new what we could do to help her. I heard the radio might help, (static) so we're trying that. (So far nothing) But once she falls asleep, she remains peaceful and you would never know that she had difficulty in the first place.

I'm Anyway looking forward to our first check up, hopefully it will go without a hitch. Nicowa I was reading your first check up story and found myself giggling along, I hope things are still going well with you. And with the rest of you too.

Again thanks for the warm welcome and letting me ramble on for so long, I'm just excited I guess. I look forward to discovering the parks there and finding the pubs frequently as suggested :) (Thanks again Cat Melodeon smcarrick)

Sorry Jenni I think that was me using abbreviations - phn is the public health nurse. When you move over you can register with your local Doctor and I think they will assign you a local public health nurse.

They monitor baby's development up til the age of 3 years old and are on hand with advice/info.

I completely agree with how overwhelming the love is when you have a baby, it knocked me for six! Its amazing really, its not like newborn babies do a whole lot, but they manage to wrap you around their little finger the minute they're born!

I hear you on the boobs, mine were cartoon big last time the first week after having my daughter. It made me wonder why any woman in their right mind but want to have stupendously big boobs.

Tigeress I agree 100% on the Tesco nappies, I've tried all other brands but none as good as them. I only started using them from size 3 on, so it's good to hear the newborn one's are as good too :)

I'm so sad, I got so excited when I seen the countdown ticker on one of the pregnancy mails I get weekly. I have 98 (nearly 97!) days to go!
Just to go one further, that's 84 days until I go on maternity, and as I work a 3 day week only 36 work day's left - squeee!
I told my husband & he kind of rolled eyes  sure its 3 months, its aaaages away say's he. men! :P

twins were 10 weeks old last wednesday, myself and purplecat are seriously lacking in sleep, in fact purples gone up to rest now. daytime is great but come night time it's a different matter. thats when the twins really act up. you'd swear they were working together to keep us awake. one would start crying then the other follows then later on it's vice versa .joshua cant seem to take to his feeds ,alot of the time he vomits it up. dont know if it's him or the nutriprem 2 we're using.
you right about time hannibal, it sure has flown in. before you know it there'll be a meet up with all new babies.

Hi Going demented & How strange.

Double trouble, wow you sound busy? I'm not sure about the formula your referring to but my sister had the same problem with her little one. She changed formula so many times. She thought the vomit was being caused by reflux or so the maternity nurse thought. It turned out Charlie (my nephew) just didn't stomach the lactose based formula well.

She found that the soy formula here stopped the vomiting all together. Charlie is now 4 & drinks regular milk, she is still mystified why Charlie couldn't stomach the other formula, but each bubs it different so what did it matter. I hope it all settles down soon & u don't need to change formula's it took her a number of goes. But even so she did find something just right in the end. (Somewhat of a Goldylocks theme, going on here).

Hannibal Smith, not sure how to quote yet, but the first pregnancy wand? I did it several times I was so shocked. Also a little worried to get Mr excited unnecessarily Lol

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,585 ✭✭✭lynski

Oh Jenni! I did so many tests the first time! we were so excited!
The second time did 3 I think, but i knew and by the third time I knew before I did the test so only 1 required, I didn't even bother to go to the doc to confirm, just booked myself into the maternity hospital.
And surprisingly I was never more then a 2-3wks pregnant when i did the tests, cause when i got to the hospital each time the first scan showed that I was barely pregnant when i found out.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,893 ✭✭✭Hannibal Smith

haahaa that was the same with me the first time...I think I did three tests to be sure. The second time like you Lynski I knew before I did the test. The hubby was telling me not to get my hopes up etc, but I knew. Did the test, saw the line and thought...hah! I knew it! lol

Good luck with the weaning Liliq :D

    On number 1 I done 10 tests...
    Number 2, 1 test and
    Number 3... no test...

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,185 ✭✭✭Tigeress

I did 3 tests :-) 2 cheapies & then the Clearblue Digital but I knew in my head I was preg! It does seem like forever ago lol! Nathan will be 3 weeks on Tues & it already feels like years since I was preg (apart from the section pains reminding me :o )
I got a lovely lyin this morning :) my OH took the little man downstairs & left me to sleep.. I really needed it too!

I'm the same Red Fragle! I worry like mad when he sleeps loads but I never wake him :) Nathan has that stuffiness too although his is finally starting to break, it's mucus left from being in the womb.. I or Saline Nose Drops and found they help alot! Also there is nothing in them, it's just basically salty water & makes him sneeze loads & you can use them as often as you like! Hope that helps :) I find he's worse at night too.. But the Doc & PHN have assured me that he can breathe fine it just sounds awful :( so long as her lips don't go blue there's nothing to worry about..

When you bring your newbprn to be weighed at the local hse clinic do they do a mood test on you? Is this the norm? I am fine and was a bit put out when they told me they were going to do one on me. What is the mood test anyway?

Yes, the PHN and the hospital should do something called the Edinburgh test on you.

Basically just to check that you are well in yourself, but of course, there are other markers of PND.
