Out of curiosity, is there anything stopping the Gov doing what was done in Greece? There, they put the charge on the electricity bill, if you didnt pay it, you got cut off.

They can do what they like with it as long as it's not a tax for owning a house. That I will never pay.

Maybe that's why I missed you for the last few days:rolleyes:

ONE MILLION is some protest !!!

And the numbers who boycotted today's bash must run to multiples of that million! Amazing show of support for the household charge! Yay!

What happens if someone posts the form in next week or a month from now with a cheque or bank draft for €100? Will they send out a request for €10?

I would not be surprised if they announce an extension forum til September. Leo Veradker mentioned that they only needed to have €160 million in by the end of the tax year.

Why would they do that and say no to all that extra money they will make? It's worked out pretty well for the Government, just enough to keep them on course and push through the tax all the while earning a bit extra due to a lot of people being paying late.

Highly unlikely. Why would the ESB which is only semi-state cut off a customer who has been paying their bills?

Yeah I know your position Tayto, you say it every 3rd post. But that wasnt what I asked.

Does the electricity bill say who owns a house now?

So, we're in agreement that there wasn't any request for payment - but rather an obligation? Grand so.

Not really. Just highlighting the fact that you are the last person who should be talking about legal obligations on this thread considering your past selective paying of taxes/charges.

At the cheek of ascribing any specific intent to the number? Okay.

Because it had been handled poorly. Misinformation, can be paid in post office....oh wait sorry it cannot be paid in post office. Can be paid at your council building today....oh wait it's up to each local authority whether they open today or not.

1 million households have not sighed up yet. They are not going to chase the fines. They would be more than happy just to get the €100 and by alienating the disenfranchised any further will make things worse.

That being said, it still wouldn't surprise me if the threat of similar action was idly made. They're willing to change laws in order to enforce this tax.. while at the same time; turning a blind eye to broken and outdated laws which actually need to be rewritten as they negatively affect the lives of Irish citizens. They've very recently rejected a call by the UN to rethink a number of laws. You can see where their commitments lie..

They can fecking whistle for it as far as I'm concerned.

I'm happy in my stance - past and present. I'm pretty sure there are those who feel justified in not paying this tax too, but they're not the ones pretending it's a 'request'.

    1.8 million households.
    less than .8 have paid.
    Desperate result for F.G.
The question now is will Big Phil survive ?

    Reality calling!

They need the money - and much more. They'll chase it to the ends of the earth (allowing for typical efficiencies).

Sums up some of the No protesters, stupid scum really.
A near riot broke out during the protests when a Fine Gael delegate who resembled Phil Hogan tried to pass through the crowd.
The man was engulfed by angry protesters and jostled before gardai came to his rescue.
As they attempted to escort him from the area they were surrounded by screaming protesters, some of whom shouted “shame on you Hogan.

It will probably cost the tax-payer more than 160 million by the time they've done that.

747 thousand according to 6 One news have paid.
747 = Plane crash for the Govt.

Possibly so (though I doubt it), but the bigger money kicks off soon enough - so it's worth their time and effort.

That would drop us below the million mark then - 1.71 million household liable to pay.
