Just seen the sad news that Dean Stockwell has died,

I am currently watching Quantum Leap again as I love it one of my favorite shows and season 5 is going to be a lot harder to watch knowing he has passed now.

He was also in Star Trek in Enterprise in the episode where Archer and Malcolm get caught and put in a prison with Suliban prisoners.

He was also in 1984s Dune as well. I never realised that untill today.

Still 85 is not a bad age just not a great one these days.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

Also the newer Battlestar Galactica. Looking at his IMBD just now and it's crazy some of the stuff he popped up in like 9 episodes of Captain Planet and an episode of Murder She Wrote

Say what you like about Equinox but for such a small ship she gave Voyager which was at least three times its size one hell of a beating before being destroyed. I know it had help from the doctor and all but still Voyager suffered a lot of damage over them two excellent episodes.

Do you think we should have seen more of the Equinox crew that ended up on Voyager do and were reduced to crewmen? If you were involved with Voyager back then would you have used them in someway. We never see any if them again after this episode or even hear what happened to them.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

My guess is that Equinox had a similar grade of phaser weapons as Voyager with as much punch even if she was nowhere near as well armed as an Intrepid Class. Also they had been in the trenches a lot longer than the Voyager crew, and were likely far more up for a fight with what little they had.

I really do think we should of seen more of the Equinox survivors and I tend to put this oversight into the same category as their wasted opportunity with the Maquis early on in the show. They were very interesing characters, and it's difficult to believe that they'd just melt in the background to never be noticed again.

We could have seen more of their attempt to meld back into a more "normal" ship life while grappling with the stigma and guilt of what they had done. It might have also brought back up the idea touched upon in the Equinox episode that the Voyager crew themselves might have done the same in their shoes. Might have made for some good stories where they'd grapple with their morals again.

All we ever got of the Maquis after season 1 was Torres "old Maquis" tricks.Maybe we could have had a lieutenant packed full of "old Equinox" tricks 😂

Seriously like the Maquis were about 5 years old how many "old" tricks could they have had and how were they old exactly

Chakotay has one in season one that Janeway comments was an even older Starfleet trick. A lot of them were probably just too reckless for Starfleet to keep using like when Eddington and Sisko are in the runabout in Blaze of Glory.

Can we contain the Prodigy chat in it's own thread until the series officially hits these shores or at least use spoiler tags. Please

    This too shall pass.

Is this in reference to some specific posts or just a general request?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,906 ✭✭✭Evade

We weren't discussing Prodigy. Equinox is the ship from the Voyager two-parter... Equinox.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,929 ✭✭✭✭flazio

Sorry, when I saw the words "small ship" and "Voyager" I assumed an open chat about the ship in Prodigy had started. It isn't. As you were.

For what it's worth Equinox out gunned Voyager by being cruel to their environment. Basically turning Maqui.

The betrayal of Seska is probably as far as they wanted to push the Maquis story.

    This too shall pass.

The Maquis did a lot of questionable things but using people as fuel wasn't one of them.

I was inspired by the discussion here a while back to try my hand at making models again for the first time since primary school. I have to say I am enjoying it immensely, very relaxing.

So far I have built a Romulan Warbird and a foot-long TOS Enterprise. Next up I think will be a Klingon ship. A movie-era Bird of Prey perhaps, or a TOS battle cruiser.

If you want to go deep down that hole I would recomment the Revell TOS Enterprise. With a few LEDs, a bit of solder, and an arduino you can make a pretty awesome model that lights up and flashes! Did it a few years back.

4 episodes left of Enterprise. Better get my skates on, could be pulled from Netflix any day now. (Discovery 1-3 is gone and season 4 won't be shown outside of North America (officially) until 2022.

    This too shall pass.

Canceling Netflix subscription if they pull Star Trek shows. Noticed the overall quality of Netflix shows has really suffered in recent years and Star Trek re-runs are pretty much the only thing I watch on it these days.

I'll definitely be pulling Amazon if they lose PIC and LD

That's funny cos I'd have said the opposite. Netflix originals have really swing upward with some interesting shows of late like Midnight Mass, Squid Game to name two. There's a nice variation these days

Everyone is saying that Paramount have pulled Discovery. Could just as easily be that Netflix were not willing to pony up the cash any longer...

Six of one. Paramount have their shiny new streaming service to flog, and needs "Content"; while yeah, even Netflix have their limits on how much they'd pay. Gotta claw back that Ryan Reynolds money somehow.

It is just as possible that Netflix don't find the show profitable enough, or that there is a declining viewership.

Edit: As a PS I would be open about the fact that I have grown to hate Discovery (Lower Decks, funnily enough, was the nail in the coffin). I gave it more than a fair chance and lasted to almost the end of season 3 but at that point I was done.

"What's that blip on the sensors?"

"Orion pirates on the starboard bow, Captain. Lots of them. A whole torrent!"

Considering they've pulled streaming worldwide, including, I believe, places where it was on services other than Netflix, I'd say the blame is with Paramount/Viacom. Monumental shot to the foot, either way...

Somehow I don't think you are typical of every Star Trek fan across North America so your personal opinion hardly came into Cbs's consideration.

Discovery was regularly in the Top 10 list on Netflix throughout Series 3 so it wasn't exactly a flop in terms of viewership. Netflix wouldn't give a hoot about audience appreciation, just which shows are getting the most eyeballs.

    This too shall pass.

Have Netflix release the viewing figures for DSC? Would be great to see them one way or the other.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 4,369 ✭✭✭TaurenDruid

Netflix don't release viewing figures, but it was consistently in their top 10 streamed shows.

I don't think any of the streaming services publish ratings. Lower Decks could be a massive fail for Prime for all we know. The Netflix top ten could be accurate, could be bollix, I don't work for them I don't know.

On a separate note, for ages the TOS/TNG movies had a semi permanent home on Sky/Now Movies until a couple of months ago. They are currently doing the rounds on Film 4 with the odd one or the other appearing on All 4 for a week or two. Meanwhile the Kelvin triolgy keep hopping back and forth around Netflix, Prime and Sky/Now justwatch.com is the best place to keep track. I suspect that the movies up to Nemesis will turn up on Paramount+ on launch day.

    This too shall pass.

I think if they are on film/all4 it's because the TV channel showed them so it's up for a few weeks.

Isn't there 1 Kelvin movie on a different service (Amazon?) to the rest
