That's absolutely crazy that there's no station at the Dart station. For me that's possibly the only time I might use it. An opportunity lost.

You'd like to think it will form part of the redvelopment works that is planned there.

    Parking/Station at platform pizza

I’m sure that’s to avoid obstructing the dart station

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,826 ✭✭✭✭loyatemu

the problem with having locations at train stations is you get all the bikes ending up there in the morning and in the evening they all get scattered off to other locations (they've had the opposite problem with the Dublin Bike locations near the main Dublin train stations, but DB at least have a truck that goes around re-distributing the bikes. I suspect Bolt don't for an town as small as Bray).

Took one out for a spin this evening. Good fun. Had never been on an electric bike before.

When taking it you get a notification to only end your ride in a designated parking zone. So, you can't just dump them anywhere.

Is it true these bikes can't be used on the beach area?

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

I saw someone cycling down the promenade on one the other evening. Not sure if it's actually allowed though.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,497 ✭✭✭Peckham

The map shows red zones where they can't be used (including prom and parks). Also anywhere outside Bray.

Not sure what happens though if you cycle in those areas (for example, does it cut out if you start going up Windgates or towards Shankill?)

Saw a couple cycling them down the beach yesterday..... looked like tourists so probably not aware of the rules/wrath

  • Registered Users Posts: 21,436 ✭✭✭✭Alun

I'd assumed that the bikes had GPS tracking so that if you tried to use them in a prohibited area they'd stop working somehow. It'd be dangerous to cause them to stop or lock up, so maybe the electric assistance just stops working? They'd still work but you'd have to pedal them without any assistance and they'd be pretty heavy then.

According to the app, they should not work on the promenade, but will work on the cycle lane on Strand Road, but the speed will be lower.

  • Registered Users Posts: 21,436 ✭✭✭✭Alun

Not that I can find anything in the app that explains this, but what exactly does "not work" mean? Will they grind to a halt and lock up? Will they still be able to be pedalled but without any electrical assistance? Will the pedals disengage and you will only be able to push them? Will they spontaneously ignite and burn the rider to a cinder?

Extremely classist banning them from Council estates

Where are you seeing that? I can only see parks and green areas, the prom and the boardwalk and the N11 as banned. Plenty of council estates near me where they're allowed as far as I can see.

Sorry. I misread it. Its the actual green areas in front of oldcourt and fassaroe

    I used one today

had to leave the car into a garage in Blackrock. Got the dart and then used the bike to get to the parking station at Deerpark

    €2.10

fantastic transport option added to the town. I hope it’s a success and they add more bikes and stations

Didn't think I would have much use for the bikes but can now see the benefits.

First up is cycling to Shoreline for a swim. The lack of buses going by the venue was always an annoyance.

Kilruddery and the major supermarkets are other places I'd certainly use them for.

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,826 ✭✭✭✭loyatemu

I don't think you can park one at Kilruddery so it's not a great option for there.

  • Registered Users Posts: 40,991 ✭✭✭✭Annasopra

Parts of kilruddery are OK but they geoblock others

are you not restricted to parking/ending a ride at the marked locations in the app, of which there are none in Kilruddery?

Anyone know how frequently the bikes are charged? I've tried two bikes in the past few days (one on seafront, one at St Cronan's school) and both said they were out of battery.

According to the app there are 14 bikes currently available to rent, with the ones out of battery not showing up.

Annoying, but hopefully just some teething issues that they get sorted.

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,826 ✭✭✭✭loyatemu

who charges them - do they have a van that goes around picking them up?

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,497 ✭✭✭Peckham

No idea. I certainly haven't seen anything like that.

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,826 ✭✭✭✭loyatemu

14 available out of 50 is not great.

  • Registered Users Posts: 21,436 ✭✭✭✭Alun

It looks like the battery packs are removable so I assume they swap them out instead of swapping the whole bike.

  • Registered Users Posts: 21,436 ✭✭✭✭Alun

There were 13 at the spot on Herbert Road opposite the Green Tree today. Too many for the stand so they were parked up on the grass.

  • Registered Users Posts: 21,436 ✭✭✭✭Alun

Where are you seeing the number of available bikes in the app?

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,497 ✭✭✭Peckham

Each icon is one bike presumably. 17 bikes in image below you can see 3 if you zoom into the stand at Platform Pizza).

Also, when I clicked on the one at Herbert Park it says "Happy hour prices 13c per minute", but still 18c for other bikes.

  • Registered Users Posts: 21,436 ✭✭✭✭Alun

I always assumed each icon was a bike parking spot that had at least one bike available. As mentioned above, the parking spot on Herbert Road had 13 this morning. It'd be unlikely there was only one working out of 13 I'd have thought.

Passed by the Saturday Market late Saturday afternoon and it was still busy which was great to see. People sitting outside Butlers in the sun enjoying coffees.

Pity to see the seafront "plaza" at Butler & Barry / Sealife / The Casino turn into such a mess. Big Planters and Small Planters all over the place.....some to prevent parking..... Poles to prevent cars from parking all along there.... 3 Large Finbees Bins welcoming people to the beach...... Cars parked on the pedestrian walkway at Butler's & Barry and at the 1 at the Casino. It's a complete mess.

I presume the original plans didn't included the poles / planters etc and the only reason many of them were put in place were because cars decided to park there..... if so, why didn't the designers realise that would be the case and design accordingly. Has anyone access to a drawing of the original plans?
