in fairness to the FB whingers, the centre was substantially complete a year ago and the developers told local councillors that the cinema would be open that summer.

Yeah I seem to remember talk of a 6 month fit out of the cinema and opened early Q1 of this year! And now its Q4! it's a bit of a joke tbh. And yeah WOWBURGER seems to be empty every single time I walk past it. I struggle to understand why they ever made it the size it is. If they had halved the premises and put something else in it would have been more than enough.

At least E&C seems to be doing well! No doubt WOW will pick up once the cinema/bowling alley/penneys etc open... WHEN (not if)...

The new monthly market in Bray Central was better than I expected.

Clothes, jewellery and arts stalls .....

Yeah it was quite good. I saw it advertised as a farmers market somewhere 🤣

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Was really good, bigger and busier than expected.

Catalyst are opening their new shop this week, it's where Maison Moli used to be on the Florence Road.

3 euro for an espresso - 4 euro for a Latte or Cappuccino.... as much as I like their coffee, and that it's an independent, I hope they're not pricing themselves out of the market with their new pricing. I haven't ever paid 4 euro for a latte in a regular coffee shop in Dublin City Centre. Bray prices are mostly reasonable - I think Catalyst and Copper & Straw have always been on the higher end.

Or maybe I haven't been keeping up on the price of coffees!

Announced on social media that Ripasso on the seafront is closing next month.

Roasting costs have soared for coffee as it's mainly roasted using gas, whatever about residential rates of gas you should see the commercial rates eye watering is an understatement. I'm guessing this is where the bulk of the cost is coming from. Given that Catalyst use small batches from small roasters I doubt they can absorb the cost as well as the other bigger suppliers/roasters that the majority of other coffee shops in Bray use.

Coffee is generally more expensive everywhere in the last 6 months or so

Also I see on Bray Central website they have a few mock ups of how announced shops will look and be located.

For some reason I thought the the cinema was going where Penny's sign is. I'm pretty sure that was the location on the original concept.

The Fishmongers is open on the Vevay Road. Looks really nice and I wish them luck, but I can't really see how this is feasible given the fish shops on the Main Street struggled to stay open a year. Hopefully rent is much cheaper in the Vevay Road location.

Was only there at the weekend. Lovely food but prices increasing. Any reason given for closing ?

I hope the new cinema has a STFU clause.

When you are in the cinema, you have to shut the **** up. 😁

I'm aware of that. But, I haven't seen those type of prices elsewhere in independents in Bray (or the city centre).

Went into Bubbas. They have been very busy with sales. With the coffee and firehouse breads and cakes it gives them a bit of a mix of markets between Fish and Coffee/Bread/Cakes. Staff said to me that both selling very well.

    Bray Central.

Still no sign of any significant work force in the centre to work on the cinenma or other units.

Only Butlers and the ice cream outlet nearing completion.

If the stated Q4 dates are due to be met surely there would be bodies on site at this stage.

  • Registered Users Posts: 79 ✭✭Shaneo87ie

I was literally coming on to say the same thing. WTF - it's a serious joke at this stage!! They are quick enough to finish the houses behind it and put it up on daft for €1.2M.

I was recently in the Stella in Rathmines and the manager told me they've been told Bray Stella is opening in September. Well, they'd need to pull the finger out at this stage. She did joke and say that was the 4th time they've been told a date so lets see how that goes.

  • Registered Users Posts: 28,458 ✭✭✭✭murpho999

What are the stated dates? Not seen any anywhere. Q4 is up to Dec 31st and fit outs don't take anywhere near as long as the actual build so I'm sure it will happen.

  • Registered Users Posts: 79 ✭✭Shaneo87ie

The stated dates was 18 weeks from 13th April 2022!

  • Registered Users Posts: 747 ✭✭✭Lefty2Guns

Both the cinema and bowling alley would be specialist fit outs so I would expect a minimum of 4/5 months to complete.

Previous correspondance based on the Penney's news from memory stated opening for Q4. We'll see anyway.

  • Registered Users Posts: 28,458 ✭✭✭✭murpho999

Well above says 16 weeks which is 3-4 months so they have plenty of time to complete in Q4.

  • Registered Users Posts: 28,458 ✭✭✭✭murpho999

Thanks but those dates coming from the council and not Press Up or Oakmount who are the real decision makers.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,381 ✭✭✭beachhead

The fish shop on the Florence Road opened long before the main street and lasted a lot longer before they closed earlier this year.

  • Registered Users Posts: 79 ✭✭Shaneo87ie

I'm not sure if Press Up or Oakmount have ever given an update, so it's all we have to go off.

Any chance the workers are parking in the car park around the side and are actually in the building but you just can't see them? There's not too many cinemas out there that have windows.
