Knew I'd hate the LC forum this time of year...

Anyone any predictions on applied maths and agricultural science. Two very unpredictable papers..?

    Applied Maths...
    A wedge question for Q4
Almost definitely no substitution in Q10, so probably a trig or ln integration
    Probably not a speed-time in Q1 or a U-tube in Q9
That's all I've got, sorry :/ it's really awkward to predict!

Well I can make a few predictions. I was at the applied maths quiz final about 2 months ago and the guy who set the quiz is setting the Applied Maths paper this year. My teacher is part of the IAMTA aswell and knows the man.

So I reckon on Q2 you should look at:
    -Collisions.
    -Resultant Velocity.

And of course wedges are very likely to come up in Q4.

I'd know your point of deflection in Q5 well too.

In Q1 it seems that "meeting" or "catch up" may apper.

And in Q10 of course substitution is off the course so I'd be well familiar with how to deal with complex log integrals.

Apart from propaganda, what else could they ask on nuremberg rallies?

how it allowed hitler to create a personality cult maybe, but that's linked to propaganda too

How would I go about in answering that?

I doubt they'd just have a question on cult of personality though?

my teacher emphasised it to us quite a bit!

it would honestly be more important for Stalin, personality cult was essential for him really.
amm it's basically a propaganda question really with a bit more focus on the dictator...so instead of saying like propaganda increased a party's popularity etc you could talk about the party leader being likeable, a great orator, having a strong personality, made themselves out to be sportsmen/brave soldiers/patriotic symbols etc and say that propaganda emphasised this.

hope that makes some sense :)

    IAA
    Enzymes
    Leaf yeast
    Germination

    and then the rest

For economics i'm told by my teacher imperfect competition is very likely and international trade since it didn't appear last year. Apparently we would be idiots going into the exam not knowing the functions of the ECB and the IMF.

For history my teacher says India is most likely as the document. For Ireland 1912 to 49 A cumann na ngaedhael and Fianna fail in power comparison essay is likely since they came up separately last year. Maybe how Stalin and Mussolini used the cult of personality as propaganda for Dictatorship and Democracy.

Since there's not much time and you probably have a lot of other **** to learn, I'd suggest just learning a sample essay for two or three more poets. I really think that if you learn a personal response, you can easily twist it around to answer a question.

What's more likely; characterization of women in hamlet or their role?

Also; this is what I'm studying, gimme opinions:

-Appeal/popularity (teachers are really tipping on this one, since some guy predicted it and he has never been wrong, apparently)
-Deception/corruption/betrayal+loyalty (pretty similar questions) and I might throw in imagery/theme of disease and weeds, since it kind of ties in with corruption.
-Hamlet himself (not sure what question I should learn)
-Laertes (has this been up before?)
-Polonius (has he been up before?)
    -Horatio
-Women (as I said, not sure which question)

Anything else I should look at? I'm mainly using the keynotes book for Hamlet.

With that appeal/popularity question.. Could you answer it saying about Hamlet, the theme of deception and soliloquies for example saying that they contribute to the appeal of the play?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 176 ✭✭Nitsuj

The appeal/popularity is probably a dream question. I will shed a manly tear of happiness if it comes up.

Here's the best way to answer it.

Introduce the essay, state why it's popular, breaking it down into three (or more) things. Themes, characters and language. Then elaborate on these things in the actual essay.

So really, yeah, you could talk about themes (deception etc) and link back to the title/intro stating why it appeals to the audiences (they can relate to it blahblah)
Then do the same for your other points. Soliloquys would probably go under language, mainly. I hope to god they don't come up on their own though.

Thanks, that would be a nice question.. Maybe a bit too nice, don't think it would come up but who knows!:p

Well it's been 7 years since it last came up, so it's possible in that sense and as I said, the guy predicted it. All I'm saying is that it's not a question you'd want to leave out. Study it. While you're at it, study the rest (or as much of it as you can).

English Paper II Predictions (purely speculative btw)

    Hamlet:
    • Polonius (never been on)
    • Loyalty/Betrayal
    • Importance of Soliloquys
    • Struggle between Hamlet and Claudius

    Comparative:
    • Literary Genre
    • Theme or Issue

    Poetry:
    • Robert Frost
    • Patrick Kavanagh
    • Adrienne Rich
    • Seamus Heaney

IMO, all predictions are speculative. They probably randomly pick each section from a draw or something..
