Oh I would kill for a cheesecake now. the one my auntie used to do. Baked with orange zest, raisins and chocolate on a top.

I was so tired today that when after dinner baby kick and I get sick I spend hour crying and feeling sorry for myself.
    I feel stupid now.

Do you ever yawn so hard that you think you could swallow your face :D that's me now so I'm off to sleep :)

Mink I've just had a play with the angelcare monitor & the batteries in the parent unit need to be charged for 15hrs before first use! Thinking of the plans for your cot...you might want to take that job on yourself :D

Boyfriend reckons we don't need a monitor cos we live in a bungalow...eh, I beg to differ, oh knowledgeable one!

So I got the crib sheets washed and dried and stuck one on the moses basket, crisis averted, no one will ever know about my terrible tea incident! Until the baby wets the bed or something, then I can just blame him. Probably.

Anyone want to call over and sort out my baby room for me? I don't have the energy and the place is a disgrace. I'm half thinking of throwing a match in and closing the door and never having to think about it again. By the by, seeing as it's come up there yesterday, I had cheesecake the other day...have I sinned against pregnancy unawares to myself again?! I seem to be doing a lot of that...was never told what not to eat, people coming up to me the odd time horrified I'd be putting philadelphia on my sandwich and what not.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,251 ✭✭✭cyning

Philadelphia is absolutely fine when your pregnant: it's pasteurised! It's unpasteurised cheeses you need to watch out for: its kinda the same with cheesecake. If it was made with Philadelphia/other pasteurised cheese it's fine: if it's made with anything unpasteurised it's not: it's along the lines of if your not sure avoid :D

Glad the Moses basket crisis was averted!

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 13,425 ✭✭✭✭Ginny

Ah Philadelphia is grand! It's un-pasteurised chesses that's off limits. In fairness though once I hit 7/8 months I went back to my slightly runny eggs and tonight I will be having some medium steak (I used to eat it rare).
I have so much more energy today, slept over 9 hours last night, haven't done that in month! So (Still from a couch position) I'm setting up the downstairs changer today!

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,722 ✭✭✭silly

So. I snore now. Apparently! But I got 11 hours of sleep last night...bliss. Hubby not getting much sleep but hey! I'm pregnant! I need my sleep. I've spent the most of the day so far watching Gavin and Stacey, friends, how I met your mother and teen mom. But I also have 2nd load of washing on and the sitting room tidy.
I washed and dried the crib sheets I got from my sis ( along with the rest of her attic) and only one fits the crib she gave me!! Wierd. Think I'll just buy some tomorrow, if I ask her for them I'll probably get the contents of her garden shed.

Re the food to avoid. I had a slightly runny boiled egg this morn. And I had a medium steak about 2 weeks ago. And now all I want is cheesecake!!

Is it just me or is this thread starting to slow down a bit since we started over on bookface?! Boo-urns! And yet we still get our gossips in :)

Birth stories ladies? Come on now, I'm getting bored here! :D

Only good birth stories!!! If there is such a thing :D

Weekends are always a bit quieter here too!

I just spent an hour and a half in the bath: I swear it is the best relief for my back since yesterday :D

Silly Smyth's have buy one get one half price on all the baby elegance sheets for cots/cribs/moses baskets if you have any near you :)

Also now that I got my bath thermometer and got over freaking out that I didn't have one and my hubby would probably burn baby because his tolerance of heat is so much higher than mine or anyone elses etc etc etc my new freak out is that said bath thermometer won't work and now I need to buy a second one just to double check. I feel the same about actual thermometer for baby: I think I may be over thinking things too much :p

I haven't the time to keep up with the thread now ;( miss work for that!

Just posted in the bf thread in newborn and toddlers, I've a cracked nipple already :( think it happened the other night when I was expressing. It's really sore when she first latches on but it's grand when she's feeding.

Rant of today: OH's mother is telling me how to dress N! She kept saying "I was thinking we cld put this with this." They won't leave her down, even tho I've told them and then she ends up unsettled later in the night and it's me that's awake half the night!

Baby is going to her first party tonight! Couple of our close friends r having an engagement party so were just going to pop out And say hello.

Weekends are always quiet around here :)

I had great plans today to cook loads of stuff for the freezer, but by the time I had been to Tesco, and bought all the ingredients, I was too exhausted to cook!

But I'm officially on maternity leave now, so I should get time to do it tomorrow and Monday... if I'm not too lazy!

Oh Kildareash! can your OH say anything to her? is it her first grandchild? Oh and if you have any BF tips I'd love them, I really want it to work for me!

I'm too emotional to say anything to him right now. Had a massive surge of tears a while ago. It's her first grandchild, and it's great their so excited but im just feeling a bit smothered.

On the BF...just relax and accept all the help in the hospital from nurses and bfeeding specialist.
The nurses in Plaoise were fantastic and spent as much time as they cld helping u to get established. They wld encourage u to call them to help you or even just to check she was on right.

Just got my internet top up :D I was worried I may have missed a birth.

    Saurelin are you feelin better?

Twomums, I must check re the batteries & make sure the monitor is all working properly. I think I may just generally check everything is working

Kildareash, that sounds tough with the MIL. I hope you get to talk to OH about it as you need your space!

Well I went for a bikini wax the other day (yes I am mental) & was WAY more sore than any other wax I've ever gotten. I think it's cos the skin is so sensitive & stretched down there! Won't be doing that again anytime soon.

All the baby stuff is washed & I packed my hospital bags today (missing a few things but more or less sorted.

And... I actually managed a nap today. Got an hour & 1/2, delighted with myself. I wonder will I get to sleep at a reasonable hour now, it's 12.20 and I'm not really tired.

Mink a bikini wax?! Mad altogether!

Seriously if I shave my legs these days I feel proud!

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,260 ✭✭✭Mink

I decided to try contact my best girlfriend (well we used to be best friends) today as haven't seen her in months and she hasn't really reached out to me. So emailed her yesterday saying I'd love to pop into her for a cuppa some time next week as I'm going to be bump-less soon and she's not seen me since I'm about 4mths.

So I get this short thing back re how she's studying all day & night (in fairness she probably is really up the walls with study) & that she won't be able to spend long, she was suggesting I come to her house on one of my work lunch breaks. Bear in mind I never overstay my welcome when I've visited her in the past. Anyway, it was weird. We've really grown apart & I'm sick of trying to get things going again, going to just leave it now.

Tis sad but I guess it was to be expected.

    I don't know what I was thinking.

I only managed to shave my legs for the first time in a month the other day & it was a real 1/2 assed job. Big leap between that & a wax.

I think I was just really paranoid about my nethers because I can't see them. OH thinks I'm mad as well. God it was so sore, poor baby was probably wondering what the hell I was doing.

It's always sad when friendships grow apart :( or fall apart. I lost one of my best friends in middle of wedding planning: it was kinda coming for ages (and ages) doesn't mean it didn't hurt like hell though. And I miss her now even more with babs about to get here: everyone thinks I'm mad because she treated me so badly but I think I always made excuses for her no matter what.

I have hairy legs at moment I've got to say! I'm getting BH down to about 15 mins apart now: they feel different now though: pain in my back and across my belly and a sort of sharp pulse in my belly: they feel weird. Hope they either become contractions or go away so I can sleep :D

the exact same happened me! My best friend with 12 years, she was supposed to be my bridesmaid and then it all went pear shaped. I miss her so much too, especially with baby on the way, but she's a totally different person now than she was when we were friends. :(

Thanks for tip about crib sheets. I must check if I can use my one 4all voucher in smyths.

Stayed up late with my 11 year old last night and we watched forest gump. Obviously she had never seen it (1994!!) but it was nice to spend some quality time with her. And hubby got a head start on some sleep before I ( snorey one) arrived.

Morning guys:), just a quick question about this mucus plug thing... I noticed yesterday I had a slighty pink discharge and last night there was a very small hint of blood and still slighty pink this morning, is this the mucus plug??

  • Registered Users Posts: 774 ✭✭✭notsobusy

I'm a bit demented, charlie is breast feeding great but not sleeping at night at all. Last night was the worst. i think i fed him too much because he would not settle and cried on and off all night. will post in newborn for help but god its hard.

On the breasfeeding front just make sure they are latched on properly. get as much help from the hosp whilst you are in there.

KA you need to get your bf to say something to your MIL it wont work coming from you. my mother is driving me mad, she came over last night with my bro and he cooked dinner. she sat and watched me breastfeed and i mean sat and watched me. i found it weird and creepy. i was watching some of harry potter and when she started talking to me i just asked her to let me alone. she constantly wants to hold him but is very good and wont pick him up out of the basket!!!

Is the discharge like a clear mucosy stuff with a pink/bloody tinge?

That sounds like it! Yes it's only a small amount!

Oh Kildareash she sounds like a nightmare (in the nicest possible way) and your fella really needs to step up & take control of the situation or you will end up having a massive bust up with her. N is your little girl & you need time as a family! I appreciate she is excited but trying to choose what she will wear....she is crossing boundaries

    Mink - getting waxed...you're mad! :D

We have friends down this weekend so late night last night but it was lovely & geez did they spoil us with gifts! I will post pics in the other place but she knits and we now have 5 little cardigans & hats...she even looked up my partners rugby league colours (Wigan) & knitted a little cardi set! I keep telling her she should sell them :)

Ah I watched that too!I'd say she enjoyed hanging out with you. I'm amazed that I didn't cry.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who lost a friend, there's something about that transition from teenager/twenties over to settling down where people either stick around or get outta there.

Sounds like a bloody show to me, ie; mucous plug, good sign.

Oh that would drive me mad. I'm very much going to breastfeed on my own, ie; no one else in the room except OH.
