    Hey,

Just wondering, is there any chance I can setup my RPi without a keyboard?
My Pi arrived yesterday and I'm itching to set it up but I dont have a USB keyboard :/
Is there any possible way I could set up the Pi?
I have a tablet and an iPod Touch if these could help in any way?

    Cheers

If your planning on putting xbmc on it you wont need a USB keyboard but will need a mouse to navigate menus to setup control over the network. Then use the XBMC remote control app for your iPod to control it.

Hi iMuse thanks for that, but I havent even turned it on yet, so do I need a keyboard for first boot?

Also how does the XBMC remote app work?

You won't need the Keyboard for XBMC if you have a mouse or compatible remote control.

The app works over your home network so you must connect the Pi to your router and under services on XBMC select "allow control of XBMC through HTTP". Then on the app select Add host > Find XBMC > Save.

Okay cheers, just one other quick question, if i connect a tablet via USB will it work as a monitor or will i have to get an adapter?

No it won't. It outputs video via HDMI or composite only. You could access your Pi via ssh and VNC though.

But, has anyone done this yet and if so how do you find it?

If you were at a Linux box, the handiest thing would be to use dd, something like:
    dd if=[get dev for sd card, i.e. /dev/sdXX] of=~/rpi_os_backup.img

    Here's a guide for Windows using Win32DiskImager - http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=26463

This has probably been answered and I feel really stupid for asking but I cannot get my Raspberry Pi connected to the internet wirelessly. Today I bought the Maplin starter pack and it all works bar this and I know the problem is with my connection being WPA2 and not WEP. I'm not changing to WEP due to security risks.

So please, help! I just feel so ridiculously thick for asking this

I think it does. I've never used any distro of Linux so my knowledge is literally 0 of it. What do I do to fix this file to make it work? I'm really sorry for this questions

Do you have to use xmbc etc to play movies? Can I just stream them over the network in a movie player like I do on my laptop?

I have RPI powered for quite a while:
    pi@raspberrypi / $ uptime
     20:52:49 up 119 days, 9:10, 1 user, load average: 0,64, 0,60, 0,54

but looks like there is a disaster waiting to happen. My config.txt looks like this:

First guess - file system corruption. Anyone has something similar?

P.S. I just run fsck on data sd card (I have 2 cards) and it's clean

Unmounted /boot, ran fsck and looks file to only file that was damaged was ... config.txt

Raspberry Pi used to build a smart television...

Nice little project to try... don't think it would beat xbmc on Pi any time soon though. But still a nice project.

Looking to get it to download torrents when prompted remotely from my phone. Looks a little more complicated than I was hoping.

I had this and reformatted my sdcard and copied the standalone image to it using Win32diskimager. A bit drastic I know but then it just spent time updating the database.

There's a whole thread on this here

Has anyone here successfully been able to remotely access their Pi via 3G?

I've set up TightVNC and it's working fine over Wi-Fi using several VNC apps on my phone. When attempting to connect via 3G I get a connection refused error message.

Now I've forwarded the ports on my router, router firewall is off and I'm not really sure what to do to get it working. Do I need to use a different IP address for accessing remotely? How would I go about it?

Been looking online but not having much look so far. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

When accessing via 3G you would need to have the public IP address of your router. You should be able to find that by going to http://www.whatismyip.com/ when on your wifi.

To make it easier you can setup something like no-ip.com. You setup an app that will find your ip and automatically update a dns entry with your public ip address.
