It was totally unexpected wasn't it? :D

It appears the first 10K longer to sell out than what was thought!

Next thing to do now is decide which case we want for it!

This "RaspBerry Slice" case by fellow Irishman Brian Garvey is extremely impressive and cute, I can see it being a really cool hit with young kids!

I'd love to know if this guy is on boards.ie.

He also has a design video, and another video of him making a mould for the "blister pack" packaging.

Another cool case design worth mentioning is by fellow boards member Steve SI, who plans on housing his in an original Gameboy case.

Check out his thread for this case complete with 3D model case porn video!

    Brian,

Good man yourself! That case is exceptionally good!

Do you plan on making a few or is it more of a personal thing?

    Thanks!

    I plan on making some.
I have a full prototyping workshop here and I generally make things that Id like to see made on the side.
I sometimes host them on indiegogo if I feel there may be interest.

Below, you can read all about the case,

    http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/90582?a=272727

I have a light on there too,

    http://www.indiegogo.com/Carbon-Comet-Desk-Light?a=272727

If stuff does well, then great, if not, then there is no market so no harm done.

Speed is my thing, the Slice went from an idea I had, to the blister pack in just 5days.

I love this sort of stuff, always have, always will! The ability to make something you can imagine is a talent I dont intend wasting.

    Thanks for the links!

Only just saw the pictures of the blister packs now, how can anyone resist!

    No problem!!

Yep, made blister pack too, and the forming tools! Give folk a better idea of where it could all go if I got given a chance.

I see, well, as long as you're doing what you like, that is the main thing.

Thanks again for the interest and the kind words on the case.
Here is the FB page to save you going to indiegogo for updates,

Liz Upton is one of the fans , so that has to be a good thing:)(I hope)very early days yet too.

    Thanks a lot!

Hopefully the mods will leave links, since I wasn't the first to host it here we should be ok.

Its not an advertising pitch, more sharing ideas.

Ireland needs this sort of stuff at the minute i think!

Farnell sent me a confirmation PDF attachment back in Fed confirming the 16th of April for delivery.

Nothing since bar a mail saying there are delays, so no idea where mine is. Pretty sure I got in first batch, but meh, nearly forgot about this, so be a nice suprise :)

Yesterday I zapped the dog, and any metal object I touched.

Quickly realized that Croc's shoes generate a **** load of static, so I wasn't taking any chances wearing them round the house today.

Just for now I'll be using it as a simple wireless file server with my external HDD attached, a wireless print server as my printer lacks wireless, media centre, and Linux learning device!

Yep, crocs really can give you quite the static shock.

Got such a shock when I touched the cooker thought there was a live wire or something.
Didn't realise so quickly it was the crocs though, took a few shocks lol.

How about making a tutorial on how to write Device Driver (Linux)?
My idea is to make a very simple hardware like a character display (low cost of course) and write a driver for it, to be driven using the GPIO.
Let us not forget this board is made for learning and to challenge ourselves, so let's do that.
People want to use it as a PC, that is fine by me, but this board is more than that.

    Any other ideas???

    Welcome to boards, DigitalDesign :)

And yeah, the IO is what interests / challenges me the most. Gertboard FTW. Hopefully people will post back here and elsewhere with their crazy / practical / other ideas

Don't forget the MIPI CSI-2 interface that can be used to add a camera for as low as €5, and the DSI interface that will allow you add LCD display.

Did you try a high bit-rate 1080p mkv? If so, did it playback without issue?

    Great news!

Where did you download it and how did you install it.

Must you compile it from source?

    Cheers!

FYI: They state on their FAQ that it should be capable of 800MHz without breaking a sweat. I'd be very interested to see how far people can go with these things.

edit: Looks like some people are hitting 900MHz. RAM also overclockable by about 5% without any trouble and up to 10%.

awww, my excitement was cut short. Moments ago I received an email with a big headline/subject title stating "Great News - Delivery of your Raspberry Pi". I opened the mail like a kid on christmas morning. But then:
    Dear customer,

Having successfully passed its CE compliance testing, we can now confirm that your Raspberry Pi will be delivered in the week commencing 21/05/2012.

Ah well, the wait continues. . .:(

Yep, got the same one. Feeling thrilled at the subject line, but then I read down and mine is expected on the week commencing 14/05/2012. A bit disappointed here, let's hope the date doesn't slip again. :(

just got an update on mine
Our second batch of Raspberry Pi's is currently being put together, and we're expecting it in next week. We'll be inviting the next 4,000 people in our queue to come into the Raspberry Pi store and place their order very soon.

    more waiting. :D

that slice case looks nice .

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,694 ✭✭✭Dingatron

Just recieved a delivery date of 5/6. Any cases being produced commercially yet? May as well get one while I'm waiting. That Slice case is excellent. May hold out and see if it comes to life.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,731 ✭✭✭GreenWolfe

I just noticed that the money for my Pi has gone out of my card, but my delivery date isn't until the 14th. I wonder if I'll get it a bit earlier than expected.....

So how long before some variations start appearing that are a bare bones PC that can be used for browsing etc and as a media player, hopefully with Wifi? I'd love something really simple and small like this that I can hook up to my projector..
