I signed up with a credit card and it didn't ever actually show up on a statement, but I'm not sure if the same applies if you use a debit card. It's a "pre-authorisation" if I remember correctly, which can sometimes show up on debit cards.

On another note, it looks like work has commenced on the station outside An Modhscoil on O'Connell Avenue, and the station near St. Mary's Cathedral looks like it's ready to go.

Don't want to have to re-read through the whole thread so just wondering, the €150 holding charge, does that come off your card at initial sign up and then is returned or what way does that work?

I used a debit card and all that was taken was the annual subscription fee.

That's the one that'll be used more than any other I suspect.

Here lads I used the bikes today, went from Arthur's quay to the strand with the missus, trip took 24 minutes according to "map my run" (took a scenic route) but was charged 50c and the app says I had a 34 minute trip! Anybody else with a similar experience?

I had similar from Roches St to Clare St so I rang them to inform them that their clocks were out of sync and they refunded the .50c

That's a 0818 number, would it be with your while to get 50c refunded at the cost of such a call?

What's the 50c charge actually for? Not bringing the bike back within the 24 hours? Or is there actually a set time for how long one can ride the bike on a trip (e.g. 30 or 60 mins)?

My call to them was never about the refund and I was very clear to the staff I spoke with about the purpose of the call. it was more to inform them of the error, it's a new scheme, one which I hope will take off but if their systems are incorrect people might stop using the scheme.

    the first 30mins is free

after that there is a charge which increases the longer you use it

I'm using it quite a lot now and it's generally great. The combination locks they provide are fairly woeful though. It's actually hard to change the numbers, and also the cable is fairly cuttable I reckon.

Wonder why the station that was proposed for the Treaty Stone was moved up the road to the Curraghower pub? I'm guessing the mass goers had a conniption. They're manic about parking up that way. Or maybe the Curraghower owners argued for it to be put outside their door?

Dunno about Limerick but in Dublin most people wouldn't bother using the lock, just leave it on the stand outside whatever shop you're popping into.

I don't need to use the lock much either, but there's the odd time when I'd be popping in somewhere that's not near a station and it makes sense to lock it outside.

It could also be down to getting a suitable spot for the ESB pillar box.

The manky railing they installed at the front of the car park and behind the stone wall there is completely unnecessary. An extra layer of clutter shouldn't come as a surprise though!

If imagine you would definitely need a lock in Limerick. I work next door to a newsagents and nearly every time someone has left their bike outside without a lock on it it has been whipped.

It depends whereabouts you're leaving your bike unlocked in both Limerick and Dublin. Some places are fine, others are not, in both cities.

There's a mini-pillar in the original location. My bet is the Christians had a hand in this.

Think it makes sense to move the station down away from Treaty Stone location. It's an extremely busy junction with motorists, pedestrians, tourists. the original location could have caused mayham between tourist groups gathering and wandering around and people trying to themselves sorted with bikes. its a lovely gathering spot for tourists and locals (big funeral crowds too) so I think makes sense to move bikes down a bit. Traffic wise the new location is quieter for setting off on the bike too (and I've seen some people very wobbly when they first set off)

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,903 ✭✭✭zulutango

I don't think that reasoning really holds up, to be honest. There's plenty of locations in the city centre that are far more precarious than across the road from the Treaty Stone. And arguably it is better than outside the Curraghower, which is on a very bad bend in the road and the footpath is very narrow there too. Also, it (the original location across from the Treaty Stone) was the one that was earmarked in the initial study by the design team.

On balance, I'm ok with the move, but I reckon the council were strong armed out of the original location. I don't think that happened anywhere else in the city.

The station near St. Mary's Cathedral is operational now. The one at Newenham Street looks almost ready and work is progressing at the one near the Model school on O'Connell Avenue. Haven't been up near the train station for a while, but I think there's one planned there, any sign of work starting on it?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,551 ✭✭✭panda100

I'm not really sure of their reasoning behind the one outside the Model school. There are already two bike stations within a minutes walk from the model school. The bike station outside the Redemptorist doesn't look like it's being used that much as it is. There are always full number of bikes available when ever I cycle by. They would be much better served putting a bike station at the crescent or further down the ballinacurra rd rather than clustering them all around the same spot.

Took my first spin on one last night, they are different to cycle

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,020 ✭✭✭Jofspring

At the moment the nearest one to the station would be the new one just installed at Taits Clock, outside Fitzpatricks Casino.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,903 ✭✭✭zulutango

There was an article in the Limerick Leader recently which said that the one at the bus station won't be done until the renovation works are done there :/

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,905 ✭✭✭steveon

I see they are now putting a bike location at the entrance to Clarina Avenue Just off Hyde road where they have just knocked some houses going to be fun.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,842 ✭✭✭Poxyshamrock

Are you sure? That's not on the list of locations and it seems a strange choice for more than one reason!

Yup 100% i live 2 mins away been watching it last few days as wasnt too sure what was going on till now should have taken a pic

That's an odd one! Surely something nearer the Roxboro Shopping Center would have been a better location? I suppose it's good though that they're moving out towards Childers Rd.

Really hoping they move out the Ennis road. The Jetland area or even across the road near funworld would be great. The strand one is grand but still just on the verge of town.

Throw in a cycle lane out the Ennis Rd then and you will service a lot of people with a direct safe route into town.
