Five in one game even at the league one level is pretty amazing wonder if we'll go for him?

Hilariously the ITK's are saying deal done with Rhodes loaned back for the rest of the season they are some chancres.

This Rhodes lad is bound to fail with all this hype. Let Kenny add him to roster of over-rated Brits at Liverpool, should set them back another £20 million.

If we got him for under £10 million fair enough, but I can't see it happening with all the publicity he's getting. I'd rather we go after someone more established, it's what we need once Ade leaves.

Hes a Scottish international rather than an English one price tag is meant to be around 6m

Rhodes just might be a good signing. If you look back over the last decade, we have had a lot of joy from signing youngsters from the football league. Going back to the Gardner/Etherington/Davies/Ginger Peler clutch, who were all good as we had then, and served the club as best they could. We got our money back on them all.
Since then Dawson, Thudd, Lennon, Bale, Walker, and Rose have all been successes. Naughton will make it or get his money back. Only Reid has not made it, and we got most of his fee back. The players listed above cost about £30m, and are worth well over $100m right now.
Another good point about these lads is their attitude. They don't give trouble, and play hard. Plus they come in on small wages, more important than the actual transfer fee when it comes to club finances.
Foreign youngsters more hit and miss- Kaboul, Boateng, Taarabt, Gio, Luka? (only 22 when he signed). Bigger fees, bigger wages, higher failure rate.
Rhodes would come here brimming with confidence, and might grab a few goals. He must be able to put himself about to do the business in League 1.
I know strikers from lower leagues have a bigger failure rate than players in other positions, but he's worth a chance. With our record of developing players, as outlined above, he'd surely jump at the chance to come. I think he would be an under 21 player as well. Get him in, and pay a bit extra to take him now.

I agree he is more mobile than Hudd, but I'm not convinced of him as of yet. He hasn't exactly been setting the world alight over the last 18 months with Everton.

    agree with hatch here,

personally i would well rather take that young lad ross barkley. looks a smashing player.

i think we should go for ba and samba . 18 million for both

ba has release clause of 10 and he is worth it. king is out for 2 months so we need another CB

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,900 ✭✭✭Sugarlumps

We definitely need a cb, I’d be amazed if Redknapp doesn’t pull the trigger.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,649 ✭✭✭2nd Row Donkey

As long as we dont go out and buy some 'young, promising CB who has made a total of 20 app for some league 1 team but is tipped as a future international blah blah blah'.

I would rather we bought no-one rather then gambling on 'one for the future'

We need a ready made replacement - someone who can come in and hit the ground running.

Those type of players generally aren'nt around at this time of the year so unless we go for Alex, Hungelund, Cahill or Samba the best we can hope for is some half way decent CB who's not getting his game at one of the big european team who wants a loan deal for 6 months ahead of the Euro championships.

It’s not favourable signing anyone in January but needs must, Redknapp knows what he’s in the market for regarding a cb.

There’s no way he’d sign a kid to replace a seasoned pro. I’m still hoping we poach Samba, he’d be my number one pick.

Looks like Dos Santos is a goner anyway. Shame.
    Could be one we regret.

Interesting that we recieved a big bid for him from italy last year...

Alex would be a super buy imo

Harry has just came out and said that the release clause is a figure lower than £7million! Cheap as chips for a player playing so well but maybe his fitness is dodgy... I know he failed a medical at some stage.

The flip side to him being so cheap is that everyone will want him and it may come down to what wages are offered to the chap. If this is the case we are unlikely to be the most attractive option.

Pity he's off to the african cup of nations for a month.

Still worth a shot at that price assuming wages aren't ridiculous.

Apart from his goal against united (which was class) Ba seemed the real deal to me his touch, movement and running at players all seemed right out of the top level.

Can't really say he's a one season wonder either as he has like 65 goals in his 135 games to boot which while not earth shattering is proof there is something in there.

If we could land him for less then €10m and €50k a week I think he'd be worth a go. Could be very hard to sign him though.

I see on SSN that hughes is making a move for Alex.
I didnt realise Alex was out of contract this summer.

I know he not the worlds greatest CB but he is very decent and has plenty of PL experience. At least you'd know what you would be getting for your money and he wouldnt be a gamble that say a player from abroad or a lower division might be ...

Chelsea have confirmed that they've recieved a bid for Alex from a Premier League club. Also, 2 bids turned down for Samba from one club.

Would be nice if we were at least making some offers already.

If £8/9M is the asking price for Samba I think we'd be mad if we didn't make a go for him. Cut Bassong with our thanks next summer then we have Dawson, Kaboul, King and maybe Gallas (the latter two used sparingly) up for grabs.

    From Irish Times today

    Spurs target staying with Marseille

Soccer: Loic Remy says it is "out of the question" he will be leaving Marseille in January after he was watched by Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp.
    ...
Redknapp took in Marseille's game against Lille on Sunday and Remy scored both goals in the 2-0 home success over the reigning French champions.
"There was no additional pressure," Remy told France Football. "It is nice, it means some clubs have shown interest but it has already been sorted out with the chairman and the coach - it is out of the question to leave now."
Marseille boss Didier Deschamps was also unconcerned by Redknapp's attendance against Lille and is not looking to offload any of his key players.
Deschamps said: "I knew he was here. He probably came to watch some players but he came for nothing, it is useless. If I were to meet him I would tell him, 'Wait and see'. They have important financial power, but I have important matches to play.
"It is not the right moment to lose our best players."

He wants to go to PSG though, and if they flash their considerable cash, we probably won't be able to compete. He would be rock solid though.

Moses is impressing me big style these days. I tell ya, if Bale eventually leaves he wouldn't be a half bad replacement, just needs to work on passing it off earlier, he takes too much out of it at times.
