He went back only recently and received a heroes welcome. I'm not sure did they qualify or if indeed he is going.

Thought we might have made a move for Cahill but now I'm glad we're not. Apparently he's looking for 100k a week to move down south which is about twice what he deserves tbh.

What about Samba? Although talk of Dawson back next month. If he gets anywhere near his best it'll be like a new singing.

cant wait for daws to come back..i have been very impressed with kaboul this season though,he seems to have matured as a player

Daws back on the bench today..... having him back is like having a new CB signing.

Andros Townsend gone on loan to Leeds.

In other news Harry has set his own transfer window date. He has told Daniel Levy he wants all of Tottenhams dealings to be completed by the 10/11 of January. Harry has even told Levy that even if a “gift” becomes available he would prefer to go with what he’s got.

ITK's rumouring that Cahill will sign for Chelsea, Bassong will follow to Bolton and we'll sign up Samba....

A decent wide-right winger, available on loan might be worth a pop.

(RM and Barca always seem to have a few of them knocking about who arent getting their game time and might be interested in a move).

I'd still prefer if we moved for Hungelund over Cahill/Samba.

What about Hoilett @ blackburn .. out of contract at the end of this season.

At 21yrs old he would certainly suit Levy's buying strategy!

do you think he's good enough? havent seen that much of him if im being honest.

i do hope we off load bassong..i think he has a terrible attitude..remember harry screaming at him when he needed to come on in a hurry and he didnt even have his kit on on the bench!!!!
also at the remembrence weekend i thought he was a disgrace.he came out ahead of the teams with the soldiers standing to attention and he does this over the top march down between them and then does a big theatrical salute to them right on front of the camera...i thought it was disgraceful behaviour and has stuck in my gut since

Just got told by a mate that Corluka is off to West Ham. Don't know where he got it (probably Twitter) from yet. Seems an odd one to me.

He defo wants to get out and play ball anyway as he wants his starting place in the croatian side in the summer, cant blame him really, Niko is in the exact same boat.

The ways things are at the moment a CB should be the priority. Gallas is probably out for a minumum of 4 weeks, we know the story with King and you never know how Dawsons injury will react when he makes his comeback.

  • Moderators, Entertainment Moderators, Regional South East Moderators Posts: 9,081 Mod ✭✭✭✭ziedth

What about Dunne? He's guaranteed his Ireland place so I wouldn't say starting every game would be a priority and who in their 30's would turn down a CL push and (albeit slim) outside shot at a title push.

Lads, unless we sell a centre half, we wont be buying one. Bassong, dawson, and charlie can all play centre half so the chances of us spending big on a centre half when we already have so many are slim.

Bassong is a disaster, I've never felt comfortable with him in the team. We paid around 8 million, I’m sure we could get 4-5.

Spurs are in real contention for the title or at least our best finish in years. We’re going to need a quality cb, so why not buy one now!

Redknapp please sign Samba, the guys Monster Munch.

Re: Dunne - Yeah, I was only thinking the same thing yesterday (but figured I'd be laughed off the forum if I mentioned it)
We could do a lot worse!

Re: New CB - We should hold on to Corluka so - I'd rather have him at CB then Bassong.

We have 5 specialist centre backs, plus Hudd and Corluka, plus Caulker to come in next season.

    How many do we need?

I don't think we need another CB. Fair enough Gallas and King are injury prone, but Dawson (once fit) and Kaboul are rarely injured and between the 4 we shouldn't have to rely on Bassong much, even though I don't think he's as bad as others here.

If we were going to spend money, and maybe decent money, I'd like an alternative to Lennon or Bale, someone who could possibly play either wing, but was better on the right. That way if either Bale or Lennon were injured we'd have a suitable replacment, rather than VDV who is not a winger. Outside that, can we really fit another striker in? The only way I could see that happening would be if both Defoe and Pav were sold to make way for someone really good, which is not going to happen.

Its not about how many we need, its about having enough quality ones.

We might be okay with what we have at the moment - any two from kaboul/Daws/King and Gallas with the remaining 2 acting as cover.

however, with injuries and suspensions we are stretched.

Janurary probably isnt the right time but our next CB purchase needs to be one of quality and one for the future. King and Gallas are on their last legs and I know we bought Bassong as a long term replacement but that hasnt panned out so our next CB needs to be quality.. Someone we can build our defense around.

Samba is suppose to be for sale at around £9m. That's not huge money by any means. If we offload Bassong and Corluka to cover it, I'd be happy with that.

^^^^ Are you Samba's agent in disguise or what? :D

I personally think Bassong has done ok, he has had some bad performances but that's the thing with centre backs, they get rusty and stale very easily when not playing regularly. It's the position where a reaction time being a split second slower can be very costly. Ledley is the only exception I've ever seen to this rule. Samba looks like a class act these days but he would turn into a lumbering fool very quickly if he spent some time on our bench.

We could do worse than build a defence around Kaboul, Daws and Caulker. Until we start winning titles and/or paying top wages we won't be able to buy world class players except by luck (VDV), or speculation (Modric/Bale).

Tonight is the first look I've had a proper look at Ba, he looked excelent against Utd. Very impressed with him. You think he'd be worth a go when Ade clears off?

Has looked goid all season but rumours persist that his knee is a ticking time bomb!!!

Alex has to be worth a shout. If we could get a loan deal till summer then if it works out do some business with getting a few CB out and him in.

He’s certainly looked a handful this season, when he was at West Ham I can’t say I noticed him.

He was exceptional against Utd last night and took his goal beautifully, one of those nights where he could do no wrong.

He’s on a golden streak at the moment, I wonder can he do the same next season?

I don'tknow if we really need to bring in Samba, he'd just be another person in the way of Caulker next year.

Not to mention Defense hasn'tbeen a problem for us this year we have the best defense in the league since september only those two games in August were in any way disastorus for us.
