Hell yes to mp3 players, good idea. And be able to have your own custom soundtrack

As for dildo assault, try saints row 3.

Never thought i'd have to say the above sentence, but there you go

With all these elements and the supposed vast size of the game I hope they have enough to keep it entertaining and not have big drawn out spaces that are empty and devoid of anything you could have fun with. GTA 4 was big but there really was feck all to do in it besides the missions and rampages.

And the rampages have to fun again, I miss beating people to death with a dildo and a gimp mask :D

Hell to the yes MP3 players! I hate having to sit in a car waiting for a news report to end or a song to end before I can carry on.

Seriously? You're judging the protagonists based on vague descriptions and a GI cover? You've got no way to know how they'll control or how their stories will play out at this point.

Au contraire, I think the underwater element opens up so many possibilities.

There could be missions where drug smugglers are forced to throw their cargo overboard. You'd then have to dive down with scuba gear to retrieve the loot, whilst maybe fending off other divers (with a knife, spear gun, etc.) or submersibles at the same time.

Or how about having to escape from a submerged airliner after it is shot down? The options are almost endless with the amount of variety that the new map promises.

Ah, they all sound like the same mission over and over again. I just think water in games in general is a poor idea, personally. It serves limited use and is generally a frustrating mission.

I didn't even like the underwater levels from Sonic The Hedgehog.

That said, if I can switch character and skid around the beach getting unique stunt bonuses while the AI does the water mission for me, I've no issue with it at all. :)

In my opinion, they really missed a good opportunity in terms of voice acting.

The character of Michael feels very much like Neil, the main bad guy in the movie Heat.

It would have been amazing to have De Niro voice that character.

Of course its not a deal-breaker, im sure the guy who did voice him has done a great job.

They probably sunk their budget into, you know, the game itself.

You haven't even used them yet! Jeez. Anyway, Franklin would fit the bill if you're looking for the somewhat tired story of a Latino/African-American hustler in LA. That's the beauty of being able to choose between the three protagonists.

I wanted Justin Bieber as the protagonist, but we'll just have to make do

I really like the idea of switching characters. Let's face it, when the AI gets to do something important it always makes a balls of it.

If I have to shoot out of the back of a van while the AI drives, I spend most of the time cursing at the AI for driving stupidly. Equally if I have to drive while the AI shoots, I spend most of the time cursing the AI for not actually destroying who ever is chasing us.

If this means that I can drive, and then when the cops (or whoever is chasing us) are getting close switch over and shoot them, then switch back to driving again, that would be awesome.

It's an interesting system they're proposing. My thoughts were that it'd either be three separate (though intertwined) stories with three protags, or one story where you're forced to take control of different characters at different times in the story. They've kinda reached a middle ground which I didn't think was possible, by having three separate sub-stories in one main story with three protags where you can choose when to switch between them (within limits I'm guessing, like Michael's story stops until you reach a certain point in Franklin's story etc)

    It's definitely interesting

I think having the three characters will be cool ,the three could be in different areas of the map and switching will be kinda like spawning in a different area

While I understand that San Andreas was a focus on gang culture and that GTA V hopes to "catch the contemporary culture of LA", it would be a huge disservice to GTA V if they completely wrote off any focus or cover of gangland Los Santos.

After all, LA is still regarded as the gang capital in the world and technically is still a part of contemporary culture in large parts of LA like Compton, Inglewood, East LA etc.

I hope we see as much of Grove street and Balla territory as we do the homage to Michael Mann's Heat in this game.

I kind of disagree with this. GTA soundtracks have made the game in the past. Vice City would not have been the game it was without the soundtrack. Same goes for San Andreas to an extent. However GTA IV had an awful soundtrack IMO. Probably played it the most out of all GTA games and not one song from the game comes to mind as I type. Where as I could sing the entire VC and SA soundtracks :P

Hope to god this GTA has a good soundtrack considering IV's played no part in how the game felt. It just seemed like a random collection of music.

Have you played LA Noire!?

Micro Machines on the SEGA Game Gear had better handling.

Now that you mention it... Yeah that was pretty bad lol

But maybe they learned from that?

The driving physics from LA Noire were taken from The Getaway. La Noire was designed by Team Bondi who were Team Soho.

This usually doesnt come out until the game is released. There is a chance it might be leaked a day or two before the game but no chance we will find out soon.

Three comes to mine, Thin Lizzy, Genesis (With Phil Collins) and ELO.

Otherwise IV did have a very poor soundtrack. Vice City and VC Stories will always be the best.

It was easy in previous GTA games to capture the feel of a game by the soundtrack. The 80s and 90s feel of both Vice City and San Andreas were there as they both feature songs from their era.
It will be more difficult to capture a similiar feel in this game todays music feels more samey. I'm hoping for a mix of modern music stations, dance, rock, newstalk and flashback stations which feature 80s and 90s chart toppers.

The option to carry an ipod or mp3 player around with you to play the radio or your own custom soundtrack would show evolution on the developers part. People nowdays can play their own music in their cars via a music player that hooks up to the cars speakers.
Sure i remember in the very first GTA, you could change the options to play the radio stations as you walk around, not just in car.

    Rambling over

For the map, I'd like to see a blacked out version side by side with IV, or SA or even RDR just so they can show up how big it is without actually giving away the location of much.

Oh I agree that IV's soundtrack was terrible. Very few standouts.

Maybe Flashing Lights by Kanye West(?), but only because it was the song which was playing when I did the mission where you've to go and kill Clarence for Francis McReary in the tenement slums. Was so apt.

Also like some of the stuff on Vladivostok FM, there's a song called "Oh Tebe" on there which is excellent. Smashing Pumpkins on LRR and Journey (the station) were all good, but in general it was piss poor for a GTA ame. Even the talk shows were god awful.

I too hope they can do something decent with V.

I threw out a suggestion to R*'s "Mouthoff" email address for a fixable camera height, and the response seemed favourable. Hopefully they will take it on board.

What I was going to suggest was a simple single-click fixable camera height. When driving vehicles in GTA IV (on the 360), my right thumb was almost always a permanent fixture on the right thumbstick, holding the camera slightly higher than it's pre-set location (I found a lot of the time the default height was too low and made it difficult to see ahead of the vehicle, especially when driving larger vehicles). I always thought an easy fix for this would be a simple feature where you can pick your preferred height for the camera angle, click/press the right thumbstick, and the camera will remain at that height permanently (for vehicle driving). If at any point you wish to undo this, you simply click again and the camera returns to it's default height.

Obviously, even after you click to set a favourite height, you'd still be able to move the joystick to look up/down/left/right as you pleased, and when you let go of the thumbstick the camera will return to behind the vehicle at the height you set it.

    Hi Shane,
That’s an interesting suggestion; thanks for sharing. We’ll take your thoughts into consideration.

Ye can thank me later, lads ;)

    :pac:

Vice City and San Andreas had soundtracks which captured the flavour of a time and place brilliantly.

There'll probably be some stations focusing on older music, but what sort of music would capture LA of 2012?

Hip-hop certainly. I wouldn't be surprised if there were Chillwave and Brostep stations. Undoubtedly some kind of Latin station, maybe Reggaeton or Mariachi.

If it makes you feel any better, the guy on GTAForums who got the character names right (and since that information got confirmed, has had his threads deleted) posted up a series of 'fiscal year' reports that showed when games were due for release.

GTAV was there for a 2010 release for PS3/360, but it was also listed as a PC release, too.

Now, whether you believe this guy or not is another thing, but I'd bet a house* that V will see a PC release.

    *A house... not my house.

Lads, just wondering were there multiple different versions of GI?

When I got my totally legal and above board copy of the magazine, I had to go about arranging the pages in order because for some reason the totally legal version I had wasn't put together correctly, and when i went looking online in totally legal and above board places, I saw multiple versions of the page that has the mini heading "Living the Heist Life"...

Cool, I'll go check the bargain bin in HMV.

I'll probably still have to wait 6 months for a PC version. I'll have to get extra strong anti envy and begrudgery pills from the doctor when it's released on the consoles.
