Can't remember much about the marketing for SA. But, the first teaser trailer for GTA IV was released in March 2007, the second in June '07, the third in December before the final trailer was in March 2008. Release date of the full game, April 2008.

and gta 4 was completely build from the ground up unlike this new one, im pretty confidant for a spring/summer release tbh

Voice over sounds like Jax from Sons of Anarchy! Have to say, does sound like Vercetti retiring to San Andreas but then who ever said the voice over is the main character! Bring on more info R*

the voice sounds like a calmer older vercetti to me

If you read it the proper way like a european then yes, but if you read it like an american then it's nonsensical.

Oh I know, I'm still gonna go with my prediction of a April - June release *highly, highly optimistic here* due to the fact its running off the same Rage and Euphoria engines as GTA IV

Red Dead was their (Rockstar North's) last big release and that was a May release (only thing I'm going on by the way :P), although they are supposedly still developing Agent, which seems to have dropped off the radar altogether.

rockstar north didnt dev RDR, it was R* san diego, and id think rockstar would put a whole lot more effort into a new gta than agent, but who knows right

Song is from the 70s i think. Game is based on the 2012 recession, I do believe.

A nice subtle way for Rockstar to confirm bikes are in this game (which was obvious) ... this shot is the only shot of bikes in the trailer. Which your attention is on the bouncer throwing out the drunk.

24051972 was the number on the plane flying west that Packie got on in the end credits of TBOGT...

But then again Americans write their dates the other way round. But Rockstar North are in Scotland....I dunno

LOL @ all the conspiracy theories of the game release date etc. It will be out when its out, calm down people:)

Anyway I must say Im very happy over the game however I would have preferred an 80's Vice City, but San Andreas is a close second. I'd say the second and third videos will show the other cities and terrain, vehicles, characters, etc. From the video I have noticed quite a few things to put a smile on our childish faces.
Dogs, Functional convertible cars, Airplanes, jets, junkies, Helicopters, articulated trucks and blimps. This is going to be an cracker gameme_gusta.jpg

True. Could be nothing, but it's a fairly recurring theme.

That old conspiracy on GTA Forums* where the trailer release date was mentioned also had 204 in there. Not quite 2405 but fairly close, and again, could have some significance somewhere. Bit annoyed at no release date being on the trailer be honest.

so its in los angeles? the trailer did nothing for me, not even remotely excited after seeing it. will have to wait and see as more trailers are released to get a better glimpse into it and what to expect

Can they not just make a "groundbreaking" move and have it the first game released on a USB stick?

Surely that'd keep everyone happy? A physical item for the stores to stock (I'm sure most games stores love big games like GTA coming out as it keeps them ticking over) and it doesn't rely on any CD/DVD format restrictions (admittedly, a good, fast, reliable memory stick, with a decent storage capacity would up the price a lot, but sure... people will buy it).

    Also, my predictions would be:

    1. The 4chan nonsense is just that; nonsense.
    2. Completely new location. Will be a happier setting compared to IV, but won't be VC or SA again. I've known Rockstar my whole life, and I know they're not the one-trick pony people seem to think. I'd bet everything I own that it won't be in, near, or mention, Los Angeles.
    3. Same graphics/engine/etc. as IV. May look a tad more polished, but ultimately won't look much different at all.
    4. No real names for either location or vehicles.
    5. Lead character will be from the place the game is set (one of the biggest problems i had with Niko is that he doesn't come from anywhere in particular.

Could be completely wrong, as we all know what R* are like when they get cracking on things, but I'd be shockedif it's not a whole new city.

Hope you didn't bet the house on it! :P

I'm going to have to agree with you.

I'll be honest and say I was expecting much more. It's 2011 and the same things are not going to impress us like they did back in 08. I didn't purchase the two expansion packs for GTA4 because I got tired of it at that point. I lent it to friends for a number of months and they said similar things. Drive here, go there, watch this package, beat up this guy, rob a car - I just felt like I was going through the motions and never once did I feel I wasn't there before...

It's nothing we haven't done numerous times in the franchise already and in other similar games. What I ideally want from this game which needs to evolve is some kind of strategic element brought into it. For example, I want to work my way up through the ranks to total drug baron where I have a choice of what modes of transport to use, where to drop off, what is the best location to bring in this weeks shipment, hire people, fire people, sort of overseas connections, bride police chiefs etc. And watch over my entire underworld empire like casino managements etc. Not just a newly polished GTA4.

    That would be disappointing.

Thankfully no one would take my bet :pac: but I'm still shocked, to be honest. Genuinely can't believe the repetitive nature of Rockstar right now.

Havent had a chance to watch it again yet, but the appearance of the dog went over my head the first time.
What about kids? Did anyone spot any children/school buses about?

If it is in San Andreas again with better graphics, physics etc. everyone will be pleased, there was even a fighter jet in the video.

    Why?
The first GTA game was set in Liberty City, Vice City and San Andreas?
There have been 3 incarnations of liberty city, so having three of SA isnt that odd.

Because there hasn't been a single game since GTA SA that you aren't able to just walk in and pick up on release day. Pre ordering is pointless.

    Not particularly true.
I found it difficult to find Black ops and more so MW2 for the guts of a week following their releases.

This will be the second San Andreas :)

When they try something new, they usually get onto a winner. Vice City was something new and different - everyone loved it.

San Andreas was somewhere new and different - everyone loved it.

As I said before, I'm sure if V was Liberty again, they'd still find a way to make it look amazing, so I'm not saying the game will be bad or anything, but I just think they're getting too comfortable. I don't want to play Liberty City, Vice City and San Andreas for the rest of my life because Rockstar have their tried and tested formula.

I'm certain that if they went somewhere new, they'd do a killer map, and they'd get people very excited.

Discovery is the biggest part of GTA. Storylines, missions and vehicles/weapons are secondary. It's all about exploring and discovering. It's hard to not feel like the series is a bit stale when you're 'exploring' the same place over and over again :(

I miss Grand Theft Auto London - that's an oldie for those that remember. It would have been epic if they went to England to do GTA5. Just think of the possibilities. We know Rockstar like taking bits and pieces out of movies for their games. The Westerns influenced RDR, Boyz In The Hood for San Andreas, Scarface for Vice City etc. Would have been awesome to see Lock/Stock, Snatch etc in a London setting. Now that would of been a step forward. Driving around in Austin Powers Shagmobile was awesome!

I noticed the 2405 thing on the pavement when i looked at the video a couple of times. Also if you look at the homeless holding the sign he is holding the left side with 2 fingers and the right side with 4.....
