These machines were listed sale in a forum where only collectors and enthusiasts peruse, with the sole intention of keeping items from falling into the hands of people who'd buy them in order to sell them at multiples of their original price. Somehow these machines have ended up in the hands of someone who done exactly that, of course it's going to get peoples backs up, that's why the forum was created - to be a place where collectors/enthusiasts could trade/swap/sell items, free of scalpers, free of over inflated prices, and free of, well, greed. It works very well at that too, for the most part.

The facts are, with your current post count, you wouldn't have been entitled to buy those machines via the Marketplace forum, in order to do what you've done with them. They were listed at a knockdown price, by a very nice guy, in order for them to go to a fellow collector - not to line the pockets of someone who doesn't even post here. If all this happened outside of our forum, I wouldn't give two hoots. It didn't though.

It would appear that the person who initially expressed an interest in buying and had the post count to use the marketplace did so and stuck within the rules.
The person accompanying this user neither had the post count to use the marketplace and also subverted the whole reason that the seller had them up in the first place.

It really can't be excused away.
It's a lousy thing to do.
The dialogue with the seller on this forum made it clear that they were being sold at the price expressly to users here to stop someone doing exactly what anto002 did.

The worst thing is that this kind of windfall only happens on rare occasions but each time we have seen the same spoiler behaviour from users, albeit a minority.
I'm recalling the Tesco run on games and those who bragged about making a mint on Metroid Prime Trilogy and also those scalpers who tried to exploit people with NES and SNES mini consoles.

I hope this doesn't discourage future deals being lost to the forums, following this incident.

Not at all, all the more reason to use it imo...it's 99.9% free of this bs. The excuse of "only making a few quid" doesn't really fly with me to be honest. If this was previously owned, sat in storage, and had some money put into it to restore it I'd understand someone wanting to recoup their losses, and perhaps make a tidy profit by selling on a machine that's been restored or somesuch. But to buy the machine at a knockdown price, taking it out of the hands of the people it was intended for at that price, with the sole intention of selling it on at an exponential price...that goes way way beyond "making a few quid." It was a well spirited asking price, that has been well and truly taken advantage of.

These machines seem cursed, wasn't there drama from the original raid too?

Allow me to ask you to get your facts right first.
Now for a start they weren't bought for €50
they cost a lot more than that.
The naomi 2 motherboard plus the virtua striker 3 was extra.
Then take in to consideration having to pay two guys to drive almost 3 hours away , fill the diesel tank , and then have to literally take the naomi cabinet down flights of stairs etc..
Do you see where I'm coming from?
    Good luck pal

Ah go and ****e. 3 hours?! A FULL tank of Diesel. oh my word.

First off maybe I did over price the naomi cabinet but I did save it from the skip..
And another thing, I am not a scalper and I'm not greedy and I think it's up to the person that sell these machines who they sell to.
I have helped lots of people out with their arcade machine repairs, questions and answers for years now and my advice is always free..
If I have to travel to somebody who needs a repair done then naturally I'm going to expect fuel money.
I am very lucky to have been taught from such a young age on all aspects of repair and rebuilding control panels, monitors etc.. and this is hands on experience with no certificates etc..
And with myself placing an item for sale on any other site has absolutely nothing to do with anyone on this forum.
And I want to make it perfectly clear that I have the upmost respect for everyone on here.
    And here's my offer.
THE FIRST PERSON THAT'S WANTS THE NAOMI UNIVERSAL CABINET, AS A SIGN THAT I AM NOT A SCALPER AND AS A SIGN THAT I LOVE EVERY ASPECT OF THIS AMAZING HOBBIE CAN HAVE IT FOR FREE!!
or if you have an old taito cocktail cabinet regardless of it having any parts I would be interested in a swap.

I'd take it off your hands. Enjoyed restoring the last few electrocoins and need a trisync cab.

Look, nobody here knows you, and for all we know, this has been one big mess with no ill intent. I would say though, that by buying the cabs at the cheap price, with no intention other than selling them on for a huge profit, firmly puts you in the scalper bracket. It's no different to what goes on every year with the likes of SNES Mini's, etc...people hoover them up in order to put them on Adverts and make a large profit.
And with myself placing an item for sale on any other site has absolutely nothing to do with anyone on this forum.

If those cabs didn't originate from our own Marketplace here, I'd agree. They were put here for fellow collectors/enthusiasts to buy though, not to fall into the hands of someone who was going to sell them on. You have to understand that's why people here got pissed off, I think had the cabs not come from here, nobody would give two hoots.

I'd like to see you recoup your initial costs though (travelling, vans, diesel, etc). Giving it away feels like a load of us nerds got on your case here :o

Anto002 has fixed all my machines for me. I live a fair distance from him and he has come out to fix any problems at no cost. As he does for many others.

I think some posters have been a bit harsh here.

He has a vast knowledge on arcades. Probably more than most. I know him to be a nice guy.

And it did indeed take almost 12 hours in total to collect the cabs!

And you all know that you need to double the price on adverts as you always get lowball offers!

fixed another Galaxian boot PCB a while back, for those with a fetish for logic probe porn :
Board wasn't booting & had graphic, color palette and sound issues.

Great Video! It taught me one thing , that I was dreaming when I thought I could fix some arcade boards haha

Thanks this was an especially tedious one though and it took a few sessions to get going
7 eproms 3 rams and 3 ics missing to start with
1 dead cpu and 6 or 7 dead ICs in all

My repair "skills" are a joke. But looking at the last few posts, is there anyone in the country that offers a repair service of any kind? Or something along those lines maybe?

I have a few pcbs that aren't cooperating at all, a killer instinct, dragonninja, world rally (lol), snow bros, probably a couple more.

Ive sent things over to uk before, but it can get really pricey with postage and all that.

On the other hand I might just sell them as a repair lot.

Sending to the UK is expensive, I sent my Taito Bubble bobble over before and worked out about £120 inc the shipping:eek:
I've fixed a fair few boards myself, Originals are quite do-able when you've the schematics and a logic probe, but I'm lost on bootlegs, especially without a scope.
I've actually fixed a couple Snow Bros, is it the usual graphics(bad ram) glitch?
It's well handy if you find the same fault on a repair log online :)
    DSCN4726.JPG
I've actually a World rally too, I'd one dead one but can't locate it at the moment, it's quite a cheap PCB and its usually the custom that go's in it.

All the games are original. Think I have a tekken tag and police trainer too, probably more. I'll take a few pictures when I'm home later.

If you (or someone) thought they could give it a bash, not sure about costs and all that, but certainly open to suggestions. It would be nice to save another bunch from the dump.

And yikes at the bubble bobble price :/

Okay so I went through a few games earlier, and was nicely surprised that they weren't all nuked :)

I was going to post pictures, but it doesn't seem worthwhile.

Bad dudes versus dragon ninja: The board itself is in reasonable condition, no bulging caps, clean enough, traces seem okay. Visually nothing jumps out. There have been two trace repairs made to the board, probably by data east itself, seeing as the traces are held down with official data east stickers (just a guess though). I'm getting no sound, and only a garbled nonsensical screen.

Snow Bros: Tiny bit of corrosion visible on a couple of chip legs, but it doesn't look disastrous. Reseated chips, no change. Visually looks okay. No sound, garbled graphics that keeps repeating itself, as though its trying to boot.

Tekken tag tournament: Actually works perfectly :)

Killer instinct: Original hard drive is toast. Attached working cf flash kit, getting strange graphics and blinking red light on board. Pcb looks very good, EXCEPT...it looks like someone made a balls of a solder on one of the main chips (cpu>), potentially fried the thing?! No sound either. Bah!

Police Trainer: Sound is okay. can see the graphics, but they are all over the shop, waving up and down, some discolouration. Can be coined up and plays.

So, that's the way it looks for repair jobs so far. Will test more later. If anyone fancied giving repairs a go, let me know :)

Side note, there MAY be three more of those irish intervideos coming along, bit of a headsup if anyone is interested. One of them is a mystery box, don't know what game it contains, oooooh! (I wont be taking it, whatever it is)

I'd like to get a MK2 board myself.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,725 ✭✭✭geotrig

Police trainer is worth about 20 quid (even though I really like it as a game) so might be a board to hone your skills on

I had 1 but disappeared somewhere, I’m prettty sure I could fix the sbowbros, especially because I have one to compare against but I’ve also got 2 kids now so get to play arcades once in a blue moon, so If I took it you'd likely never get it back.

Mk boards have shot up in price over the last couple of years. You don't see them come up too often

Great lightgun game, used to play it lots! Its a real shame about these cheaper boards and repairs. Maybe that's one semi positive thing about rising prices, that it encourages people to keep things working.

Chopped and painted :) Front bezel needs to be redone though, paint reacted in place with surface so going to have to strip it back completely seal and respray.

Plenty of work to be done yet but the messiest part is over now... so time to start rewiring :)
