Still a huge reduction compared with the summer. I remember Marked Gas Oil being 99.9c at the pump  And still 89.9c when buying in quantity of 1000l

Wonder if the price is going to drop anymore, i've a 1500l tank that needs fillin'!

€485 for 1000L today off Sweeney after a little bit of haggling . They started at €510

I see Mór Oil even have a customer service department nowadays ...not like 2 or 3 years ago when they specialised in the olde Neandarthal Male with Real Phone on Desk form of CS :(

    Anyone ever use www.boilerjuice.ie

They organise buying groups to buy oil. If we all got together to get a quote for 10,000 litres for 20 houses (500 litrs per house), then they wouldn't be long dropping prices.

I'm game for 1500l of marked gas oil (green diesel) if that would help

Always found the delivery guy for Mor Oil to be cheery & very helpful.
I know he primed the burner for my OH once, when the tank had run dry & the tigerloop failed to do its' job.

He anwered the phone quite often too, clearly when the Neanderthal was having its' tea break.

Just in case anyone is looking for a guide to local prices http://www.texoil.ie/direct/order-connell-oil.htm

I'd always go with these guys because they gave evidence against a 9 company oil cartel which operated in galway a few years ago. Draw your own conclusions.
Director of company in Galway heating oil cartel fined €10,000
A former director of Corrib Oil Company Limited and chairman of the Connacht Oil Promotion Federation was given a 6 month suspended sentence and fined €10,000 in the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on 23 January 2007 for his participation in the Galway home heating oil cartel. The Mayo businessman pleaded guilty to aiding and abetting Corrib Oil to enter into price fixing agreements for gas oil and kerosene. Corrib Oil was also fined €15,000. Corrib Oil is a Shell oil distributor in Galway, Mayo and Roscommon with about 55 trucks and 103 employees. Evidence given in court confirmed that, at the time of the cartel, it had about 20 trucks and 30 employees.

WARNING: That site is asking for CC details over an unsecure portal. I wouldn't do it TBH as it doesn't seem to complete an order, just send your details onto someone who prob enters the details in manually

However thanks for the link snubbleste, just got a very good price for 1000l of diesel

I got about 390 litres from Excelsior (751014) last week for €200 (€0.51/litre). Didn't realise that they did incremental pricing, meaning that 1000 litres is €450 (€0.45/litre). So I have another 600 litres coming this week for €270 (€0.45/litre); not having checked things out properly has cost me €23.40!

I've been using Excelsior for about 10 years at this stage, but never copped that I should be buying in bulk (I don't even know the capacity of my tank!). Their service is excellent, down to the drver restarting the heating for me last week (I had run out of oil, and I have a tricky boiler with 20 metres between the tank and the boiler). They work a priority syste; if you're out/nearly out, you go on the top of the list (I have gotten calls from them in the past when I had orders in asking whether or not I could hold off on my delivery so that hey could bump in someone who had run out).

I only put it there so others could learn from my mistakes. Inside, I'm hanging my head in shame at having wantonly parted with my cash through my own ignorance and stupidity. :(
I could have bought pron instead!!!

But they are more expensive than the "cartel" companies (Sweeney/Corrib).

That sounds too low, is the price before VAT?

  • Registered Users Posts: 42 Eurochild

Needed to order 500 litres so did the rounds today:

Mór Oil: €250 (guy asked me "do you usually order from us"...hate that sh*t).
Excelsior: €255, came down to €250
    Connell Oil: €260
Cloonans (who I used to regularly order from, now with Corrib I believe): €250 (wouldn't go any lower when I tried to haggle)
    Sweeny Oil: €265

Not much competition there then. Went with Excelsior as they are only the road from me and yer man was nice on the phone!

Really? Why didn't they quote me that on the phone then? Sometimes I think these people don't want to do any business.

dont know if anyone mentioned this...

    http://www.cheapestoil.ie/

I looked this up two weeks ago and it said texoil in oranmore was the cheapest.

Funnily enough, Excelsior Oil became part of Mor Oil a couple of weeks ago...

I dealt with them for years, and they were always friendly and efficient. Sorry to see them go.

I'm a bit out of town and use Mor Oil from Carraroe.

Guy has been absolutely sound with us, including bleeding the boiler when the poxy *&%^^$£%^^^ tigerloop didn't work & I wasn't home when he came to fill the tank.

Ref asking if you're a regular - our man has told us more than once to hang off a week if we could, as the price would be coming down. Can't ask fairer than that!

Our last fill was 50c/ltr about 3 weeks or so ago.

Corrib quoted me 700L for €300 today, so slight drop in price on earlier in the week then.

Just wondering has anyone ordered recently?

Is 500 litres the minimum you can order? I wonder will oil prices go up soon with the budget coming in soon i.e. is it best to stock up now and get a 1000 litres

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators Posts: 17,231 Mod ✭✭✭✭Das Kitty

Nah, you can order even 100L in most places, but it will be more expensive per litre the fewer litres you order.

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,206 ✭✭✭✭JohnCleary

Would be interested if anyone has ordered recently. Need to get me 1000l of the green stuff... usually places that are cheapest for home heating oil will also be cheapest for diesel too

Well road diesel is super cheap at the station in Inverin at the moment; so they might be worth a call???
