I'll refer you all to post one in this thread. Rumours get infractions. I'll be deleting some posts and giving some infractions.

Looks like Insomnia concession are going from the easons in the Spring - not sure if its a new concession going in there or not. Middle of town is well coffee'd up at this stage, with plenty of competition . Although most of the coffee shops always look full so maybe not at saturation yet.

I went up there for a quiet coffee on Saturday and the space is empty. Must have happened recently.

It's a real shame - I preferred their coffee over Starbucks or Costa. I think it was just too quiet in there to make a profit.

i went in a few weeks back with the laptop to do a bit of work. i had to leave fairly quick as they have a sewage problem in the building. every time someone flushed the toilet it circulated a smell which hung around for 5-10 mins after.

That would be a fairly old long standing business?

  • Registered Users Posts: 115 ✭✭Derbhoy

Yea it has indeed been there a long time

He never really did good business though did he.?Its the same building for years there. Always seem to be the same cars on the lot never changed.

Fiat have a tiny market share these days. Chrysler Jeep and Alf’s even less. Even if you were to sell one, I guess the margins would be tight.
Looks like they lost Citroen to James Barry Motors a few months ago? Used to buy cars there way back in the day.

I think they used to do Saab when Colm Tucker was a salesman there, pity to see it gone.

That the Famous Colm Tucker 😉😉
What was the dealership that used to be @ Go Gym ??

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,231 ✭✭✭mgbgt1978

AFAIK Colm Tucker was a rep for the Importers. I think he had a couple of Company Cars as the Crowd who imported Saabs also had another couple of Car Makers in their portfolio.
Go Gym are in the old Elm Motors Premises. Main Dealer for several different Manufacturers over the years. Fiat/Lancia, Austin Rover (then just Rover), Volvo, Mitsubishi...and a few more that I can't think of at the moment. Was owned by the Kennedy Family who also had The Royal George Hotel and Newsoms on William St included in their Empire.

ps. I think they started the Car Sales in Honan's Quay back in the day.

    It's another fellow I know.
Thanks I remember now. Sheils have Mitsubishi now & Lyons have Volvo. Now. They all want big massive showrooms now for their cars so that's why some of the old car dealerships are changing cause the old dealerships won't build them cause it cost too much or else don't have space.

They had Saab, Fiat, Alfa, Chrysler and Jeep, car rental and a petrol station there this time 20 years ago.

Someone mentioned in another thread that the Underdog is closed - anyone know for sure? I know they cut back on opening hours and have gone quiet on social media but I hope it's not true :(

I wonder is there really a market for two vegan places in Limerick? The Old Firestation always seems fairly busy, The Underdog not so much from what I've seen

There’s not. Veganism is a fad (it’s true) so multiple places competing for their business are never going to last. Offer proper food and stop your nonsense, you might survive longer.

You are right there. Not true vegans. its is even hard for normal restaurants to survive in this day (Kranks korner or what ever that place was called its changed so many times is an example)

The Old Firestation is not a vegan restaurant. It is a vegetarian restaurant with some vegan dishes.

The Underdog is/was a vegan place.

Ennis is able to support and maintain a vegan restaurant.

There was a sign on the door saying it had closed for personal reasons, not sure if it will reopen.

Forgot to say, paying €52k a year in rent, aimed at only a small portion of the market doesn’t make sense. It would have been better served to haven taken a small location in he beginning

They obiviously didnt think it through then just wanted to jump on the vegan bandwagon while it was going.

Think both there and Ennis Road are closed

Balls. Was supposed to be good and I never went in there, always chose Luigi's.

Luigi's is miles better than Rios on the Ennis Rd.

I tried them (Rio's) a few times and they were poor enough. Fish over-cooked and dry with very oily batter.
Chips were mediocre too. I asked for sausages once, and they only did cocktail ones, and pretty rubbish ones at that.
Some neighbours of mine weren't happy with them either and I wasn't surprised they closed, tbh.
