DIT Off Topic Chat Thread

    Hey guys,

The forum has a real "Questions and Answers" feel to it, so I was thinking maybe it'd be good to start an off topic thread, and try to get a bit of a community here.

So all kinds of nonsense and chat can go in here. If it proves popular i'll sticky it.

So, I'll kick things off. Did anyone go out last night for Black Monday? Went to Dandelion myself, had a great night.

Havent got a clue. We had this discussion with the taxi driver on the way home last night. He had a very racist suggestion as to why it is called Black Monday, but I really don't think its that

All I know is that it started in UCD - the first day of full lectures, every one skips them all and spends the day in the Student Bar. Now it's spread around Dublin as the first night out of the year,

I was scared s**tless traveling up yesterday morning. Thought the bus was going to blow off the motorway.

I wish I lived closer to Dublin so I could go out on mondays/Tuesday's/Wednesday's. There's no way I'm paying €60 for a taxi home so I miss all the good student nights. I plan on making friends with someone who lives in town though >.>

Wow! €60 to Graystones  That's outrageous!

Yeah the wind is crazy! I was meeting up with my GF in town yesterday for lunch, we decided to walk down along the boardwalk thing along the liffey afterwards.

    Face full of leaves.

Tell me about it! I can sometimes make a deal with the driver but cheapest we've gotten was €45. Sure return on the dart is €8.20 feckin rip off!

The nitelink is grand though only a fiver home :)

I saw that on Banter Socs FB page actually. Were they just handing them out or did you have to do anything for it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,229 ✭✭✭Dreddybajs

There was a girl handing them out at the Aungier St. entrance, didn't have to do anything. Hope she's there again tomorrow!

I got one too, just got handed it on my way out of Aungier Street. It's up near Jervis though, I'll have to make my way up there some day.

Edit: She was there yesterday too, so she may well be there tomorrow!

Yeah, just checked and there's a veggie option (presume you get more a bit more beans/rice etc. and there's free guacamole):

FAO Pigwidgeon - just on the Greystones thing; Im starting in Mountjoy Square tomoro morning. Would my best option of commute be the Dart to Connolly and walk up? Someone had suggested getting the bus and walking so Im unsure. Thanks for any advice :)

I'm not sure about Mountjoy Square but I google mapped for Cathal Brugha Street and Connolly was closest, so I'd say that'd be handiest. I'll definitely be going for the dart, much quicker than the bus in!

If you could get some and hide em somewhere in DIT and just tell us about them it'd be great!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 331 ✭✭VickBack

I think the 84x to Eden Quay is the handiest, and walk up Malborough St.

About freshers events, which ones are most worth going to, I went to the paint party last year came late and there wasn't enough paint to go round and even if I did get painted like a canvas, about getting home? I doubt the taxi is an option.

Only went to the freshers ball myself last year due to lack of funds (gotta love student life) but that was great craic, I'd say it'll be even better this year, I'd love to see Ryan Sheridan!

And no, i don't see taxi drivers as being too thrilled with people covered in paint in their car.

Did anyone else receive email from some former dit student about some kind of social network website he created and wants people to test or am i the only one? I checked out the website and it turns out you have to have a dit email to register, not quite sure if i want to.

Jaysus, those timetables are confusing to read. I seem to have a lot less hours than I expected, including Friday's off.

Is there anyway to print the timetable on one page actually? I printed it but it came out over 5 pages.

Once you filter it out properly, like proper week range etc, it should fit on to one page.

In saying that, I've never actually managed to get it down fully - it's an appaling system! The best I have managed is year and week range - I can never get it to seperate groups A B and C, or to get rid of some electives, no matter how hard I try!

Hopefully you're lucky enough to be doing a course that only has 1 group and no electives!

Isn't there a field on web timetables to put in your class group? That might make it a bit smaller, other than that maybe just make your own easy to follow spreadsheet timetable? Be careful though, we were warned not to print ours off as they're subject to change throughout the year.

Was it <snip> or something like that by anychance?

If it was they were lurking around here a few days ago!

    EDIT:
Just checked my mydit.ie account there, I haven't got an email from them anyway.

Yeah there is a field to do that, but when I ever I do it says "Group not recognised" or some such tripe.

That's exactly what I did, made up a timetable in Google Docs and put it up in the class FB group for everyone.

Media arts with Ellen is it?

I spent a fair percentage of that class asleep...lots of it is pitch black with her talking about her holiday snaps as though she were Lee friedlander. Also it was at 9 o'clock so maybe the sleeping wasn't all her fault.not a terrible class though but she is a wee bit of a tool at times.
    :p
