1st IM so I'll be happy just to finish within the time limit, sub 12 would be icing on the cake.
Hopefully there'll be a bigger crowd than last year.

Why so? Do you think everyone else's guesses are not honest?:)

I think the column "estimated time" would be better named "Goal Time".

    lol @ tunney
maybe an extra column for breakdown of estimated (goal) splits? Could spark some nice conversation :-)

    Google Doc'd this one too.

I've put it in with the HIM one but on a different tab

Why this shift of everything into google docs?

Guaranteed way to kill a thread IMHO.

Not sure about this one or the HIM thread but IMO it was a good move for the 1000 and SBR threads as to be honest, they were simply pages and pages of the same table. They were a pain to update too. The google doc is simple for everyone and quick to update. Its already proven to be a popular choice and the SBR thread is actually a bit of fun now.

I agree though that migrating everything to google docs is going to end up with losing some boards.ie content and forgetting the threads exist

  • Subscribers Posts: 19,425 ✭✭✭✭Oryx

Dont agree with the google docs either here, because it lacks the history you have in a thread like this. People can adjust their targets at any point with no reference to what they said before the change.

And apart from that I cant see them the 90% of the time I access the site by phone.

The tables inside the boards are static so to be able to add in extra columns that do calculations is impossible. The only reason this thread is back anywhere near the front page is because it was bumped when I added in the doc info.

All the other threads seem to have a lot more conversation in them without having table after table to wade through in order to view conversation.

But, feel free to delete my link and carry on as it was.

Nothing changes, no calculations and TBH the contents of the table will not increase much. It gives context to the banter and abuse.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,910 ✭✭✭couerdelion

The calcs were there to allow people to enter their estimated S/B/R times and then it calculates an overall time. There was also nothing to stop someone taking ownership of the thread and posting a snapshot of the table periodically so historic data is preserved and it would keep the thread alive. But if that is the opinion then that's fine. I'll delete it and we can go back to the table. (Can a mod delete the link?)

The post wasn't to force people to use google docs, just to give the option. It's a free society and we're all allowed different opinions (sometimes) :D

    WELL THAT WAS EPIC,
As i didnt keep a log this is a brief report,
First Ironman and probably last. It was hot hot hot, Happy enough considering a few thing like No wetsuit (and i am not a swimmer) not even close, but i wasn't to put of when when they said it at the race brief.
Race morning was fairly relaxed for some reason i taught i would be in bits, a lot if stone faces around the start line, I stayed to the far left at the start, and before i knew it we were on the way, If felt good from the off and just tried to keep it steady, on up the Canal just stayed relaxed and out of trouble , swim time 1,28 very happy with that, t1 was straight forward.
Bike for me could not have been better as i rode steady and just kept the heart rate down, i think there was only 3 mins in the difference on the two laps, bike time 5,26, and feeling good. t2 flew through it in 3 mins and the legs felt great.
Run now thats a different matter, first 5k felt great but heart rate went through the roof (178) walked to get it down, started to run again , legs felt great but heart rate back up again and that was the story for the rest of the run, legs were great even in the last 5k but the heat just boiled my blood. run time 4,00 and a few seconds, Finish time 11.03.

Well done to everyone as it was carnage out there, Like as seen out of M*A*S*H at the finish line.

Well done also to my two mates and fellow boardies Shellda1 (10.13) and Quintana2 (10.48)
Gave Oryx a shout after the race as she was walking up the road dont think she heard me

  • Subscribers Posts: 19,425 ✭✭✭✭Oryx

Well done Ceepo, i just came in after you and couldn't shut up talking but i settled down eventually - so are you still in the never again category, don't think anyone got a time they wanted in that heat so i wouldn't put it off indefinitely

If science is defined as the complete absence of manners, and a complete inability to be polite and a requirement for everyone to be borderline abusive.

Then yes Germany was too scientific for me.
