Download the form from http://www.studenttravelcard.ie/index.aspx fill it in and either post it with college's stamp or get it done in the SU office. :)

It's funny how you can forget these things that only happened last year! :D
Whats the easiest way to go about getting the student travel card??

go into an AIB and get a voucher if you have an account with them... or else just open one up, get the voucher, and close it

you have to pay 3 euro in the SU for the photo but it beats the 6 euro photobooths in most places :)

You can get student weekly and monthly tickets at the machines...

Sorry for changing the topic, but i have a very important question here :P How much would the fresher week cost for a non-drinker who is not gonna miss an opportunity to go to a club? I really dont want to spend tonns of money on my first week, but I want to attend as much stuff as possible :)

What are we supposed to bring to registration? I'm not going to get any photo ID back in time (mishap with the grant stuff and of course I sent them the originals :p) so all I have is my provisional.

From what I can remember from registration last year... the mains things that were needed were confirmation of payment and CAO acceptance letter. Not too sure about what else was needed. Take a look in your orientation pack, should be listed there!

You could survive the week on €100

That might even be a bit too generous but sure you want to be safer than sorry!

Oh right, I've been using a smart card since about 6 months after it started so never noticed that being added.

bring your provisional, all they ask for in the pack are proof of payment and photo ID :)

just wondering whats the story with I.D in the clubs about town? Is passports/drivers licences alright or do we have to have the garda i'd?

In all of the major clubs in Dublin, driving licenses are not accepted. You must produce either a Garda ID or a passport as proof of age.

I used my driving licence for about 6 months a couple of years ago while I was waiting for my age card, and the only place I got refused from was TGI Fridays.... but while I was there I saw him serve a girl who only had her driving licence, I complained and then he served me too.

But yeah if you have a passport or Garda ID you should bring it out, but if you only have a driving licence definitely give it a go.

I sometimes accept a driver's licence if the person doesn't look really young, but it's hit and miss. You're better off with a passport, as long as you keep it safe, if you don't have a garda ID.

We're talking about freshers here, so 18 and 19 year olds. From my experience in clubs like 21s, The Academy, The Kitchen etc. you see countless numbers of people being refused with drivers licenses. Maybe its just because I'm there on the student nights but I would strongly recommend using your passport, they have no right to refuse that as a proof of age (unless they suspect its not you).

I've worked in 21s and hesitantly accepted a driver's licence, but not from anyone who looks like he/she is fresh out of school. You're right, though, more likely than not you're wasting your time with a driver's licence. I'd just be cautious about bringing your passport out, you don't want it ending up in the hands of Mossad and Shin Bet operatives in Dubai :p

Question bit off topic... Are all bouncers in the Temple Bar area employed under the one organization?

Anyone heard anything on the Freshers Ball yet?

No, but some security companies provide for a few clubs in the city centre, and some bars have their own in-house people.

Is just an age card ok then? Thats what Im thinking of bringing when I get it..and my drivers license as backup?? Dont trust myself with that passport!

as Troll and others have said, Garda Age Cards are grand :) just bring your license incase you get someone who wants to verify your name/birth date/eye colour with what's on the age card... occasionally happens but can be a possibility especially during freshers with a good few underagers chancing their arm

A few people were asking about joining something this year. I just got an email from one of the fitness instructors who's organising a sports night on the Wednesday of Freshers' Week. There'll be a whole host of clubs doing taster sessions and demonstrations, so check it out. They'll be handing out fliers during Freshers' Week and people with purple t-shirts giving out information.

We'll be doing a Judo demonstration in the Ancillary Hall B from 6-9 if anyone's interested in checking it out! Do check out the other, less awesome clubs too though, and get an idea of what the sports have to offer. This would be a good opportunity for everyone, not just freshers.
