Except for, amongst others, Immunologist Garry Nolan, director of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute's Proteomics Center for Systems Immunology at Stanford in California,

Pediatric radiologist Ralph Lachman, co-director of the International Skeletal Dysplasia Registry at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California,

    However some agree with you;
Below are some of the more common theories as to what Ata may be.
    • ET/Human Hybrid - UFO and ET theorists point to the appearance and 9% unknown DNA as possible evidence of a human/ET hybrid creature. Some have dismissed the 9% DNA figure.
    • Fetus Theory - Many have speculated that the remains may merely be those of a fetus. Both Greer and Nolan, however, flatly reject this claim. You can see x-ray comparisons of a fetus with Ata here.
    • Deformity/Mutation – Some have suggested this represents the remains of a human afflicted with a deformity unknown to modern medicine. Dr. Nolan’s paper on the subject states, “ The specimen was concluded by the medical specialist to be a human child with an apparently severe form of dwarfism and other anomalies.” He later writes, “As the current list of human disorders is far from complete and many human disorders are polygenic, there might remain to be found a combination of mutations working in concert that lead to the observed defect(s).”
    • Hoax – Some commenters around the internet have joked that this is nothing more than a plastic doll and the entire film is a hoax designed to make money. Greer points to the CAT scan as evidence: “There is absolutely no doubt that the specimen is an actual organism and that it is not a hoax of any kind.” Though this would certainly be the reaction of most people, it is hard to believe that Stanford professor would sacrifice his reputation with such a statement.
    • Shrunken Remains – It has been suggested that these are indeed human remains, but they have been shrunken in some way similar to shrunken heads. We have not found evidence that bones can be shrunken in this manner, and traditional shrunken heads are created without the skull.

True, but AFAIK the natives of the area (and others) practised ritual mutilation on young children from birth, raising them with the explicit goal of being sacrificed to this or that god on a certain mountain. It was found that some children had skulls deformed to resemble the mountain they were to be sacrificed on, some going as far to have their skulls shaped into not one but two peaks.

As well as this, any pre-existing birth abnormality probably would've increased Ata's value as a sacrifice and have been encouraged and worsened by the tribe.

Finally, the 9% unknown DNA is a bit outlandish. Humans share approximately 99.7% DNA with chimpanzees, and something like 60% with bananas. It is far more likely that inaccurate techniques or severe degradation of the sample is at hand. What I don't get about the whole thing is, regardless of the underlying reason, why haven't more remains like Ata been found? Surely it's not a once off, be it an extreme genetic mutation or an alien one-night-stand.

Looks like another mystery sorted. Flight 19 that went missing in the Bermuda Triangle has been solved.
On BBC4 documentry this evening they found the five planes on the sea bed. Looks like the pilots lost their bearings and flew until they ran out of gas and crashed into the sea.

But the associated time loop phenomenon still exists.

But the associated time loop phenomenon still exists.

EDIT- I've checked for news of the discovery of these five planes online, nothing came up, I don't think this report is true.

Please check your facts before posting. It seems you've confused these modern type documentaries 'we solved the mystery with our bogus theory with no real evidence from our expert' with reality.

5 planes were found in 1991. But they were not flight 19. I don't think those planes have being found. Yet!

    Elisa Lam
The Mysterious Case of Elisa Lam

There are mysteries that are so eerie and strange that they boggle the mind for days on end. The case of Elisa Lam is one of them. In February 2013, this 21-year-old student from Vancouver, Canada, was found dead inside the Cecil Hotel’s rooftop water tank in Los Angeles. The L.A. County Department of Coroner ruled the death “accidental due to drowning” and said no traces of drugs or alcohol were found during the autopsy. However, there is much more to the story than what is implied by police reports. The first piece of evidence that needs to be considered is an elevator surveillance tape that recorded Elisa’s behavior only a few moments before she lost her life.

The four-minute video posted on YouTube shows Elisa pressing all of the elevator buttons and waiting for it to move. Seeing that the elevator doors are not closing, starts behaving extremely bizarrely. Here’s the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3TjVBpyTeZM

At first, Elisa enters the elevator and apparently presses all of its buttons. She then waits for something to happen but, for some reason, the elevator door doesn’t shut. She starts to look around, as if she is expecting (or hiding from) someone. At 1:57, her arms and hands start moving in a very strange matter (almost not human) as she appears to be talking to someone, something … or nothing at all. She then walks away. The elevator door then shuts and appears to start working again.

Right after the events of the video, Elisa apparently gained access to the rooftop of the hotel, climbed to its water tank and, somehow, ended up drowning in it. Her body was found two weeks after her death, after hotel guests complained about the water’s taste and color. Incredible.
Seeing the surveillance footage, most people would conclude that she was under the influence of drugs. However, Elisa did not have a history of drug use and her autopsy concluded that no drugs were involved. When one looks at the context and the circumstances of this death, things become even more mysterious.

The rooftop area was protected by an alarm system, and the water tank was reportedly difficult to reach. So how did she get up there undetected? And how did she close the lid to the water tank after herself?

Shortly after the discovery of Elisa Lam’s body, a deadly outbreak of tuberculosis occurred in Skid Row, near Cecil Hotel. You probably won’t believe the name of the test kit used in these kinds of situations: LAM-ELISA.

The Oak Island Money Pit in Nova Scotia has been a site for over 200 years of digging for treasure but in all the digs inevitably either someone dies or the pit gets flooded.

As an aside to that case, bizarre as it is...could you imagine how the residents of the hotel (who complained about the water) felt when they found out WHY the water was discoloured/tasted funny?? Awful. I'd probably never drink water again if it were me :(

I wonder will they ever find out what happened to that poor woman.

She had bipolar disorder (fact) and was having an episode. She took a turn and went up to the roof with who knows what on her mind and drowned herself.

Another clip on YouTube claims there are 54 seconds missing from the tape after she is last seen.
