If you have a canoe and a boombox, I suggest going out with this playing. You'd gain at least 4 Renegade.

I don't know how I'm going to survive college as a non-drinker. People go out drinking SO much! I've always hated pubs and clubs because everyone just goes to drink and I've no interest in that.

Strangely enough, since the end of the Leaving I've gone out way more than usual, and I really enjoy it now. I'm even considering going out any night a few of my friends are heading out over the summer, just because I won't have much on, and it's the easiest way to meet up with everyone. Normally I'd look for any excuse to stay in! :o

    You'll be fine :)

Internets been acting up. Working fine this morning, then it went off for a few hours and now it's back. This better just be UPC doing some repairs, their tech support line costs 95c per minute; I don't want to waste ten euro in credit being told to turn the router off and on again by someone who barely speaks English.

During my leaving cert I couldn't get rid of a friend, now that I'm free they're nowhere to be seen. This annoys me more than it probably should but still

Yep mine has been like that today as well. It was grand up until 2 or 3 and then it wouldn't connect to the internet at all. Only noticed it working at about 8 this evening. Glad it was a network thing and not just my box acting up :P

This not ever having had a job despite being eighteen is such a b!tch. :( I want to work. I need to work. I need money. Communion, confirmation, and (a tiny bit of) birthday money can only get you so far (that's pretty much all I have, and I rarely even get birthday money). I won't have a cent when I'm starting college, I'm already running very low on funds, and I'll still be very lucky to get a grant. Half my family have emigrated (and it's a big family) and I'm very tempted to follow suit for the summer. My fault I'm doomed to be unemployed if I stay in Ireland really, shouldn't have gone and destroyed the country's economy.

Seeing all the flood damage in Douglas and Clon is so depressing. Think my Mom's friends houses were hit badly. Why is it always Cork that seems to flood? :(

The amount of cash that children are bribed with to cement their status as Catholics is obscene.

Some kids accumulate literally thousands of quid from feckless relatives who are utterly incognisant of the corrupting affect this has on future financial management and life skills.

Fair enough. If I could go back in time I wouldn't have made either my communion or confirmation, in fact I had very little interest in making my confirmation at the time. The money from each day wasn't much anyway, and I'm fairly sure it's long gone. I just mentioned it to point out that I haven't been on the receiving end of much money since I was in national school, despite having wanted to work since I was fourteen or fifteen.

And no, I didn't attend either ceremony to get money from relatives, I did it because my close family and all the locals would have thought I was some kind of devil child if I refused to make my confirmation when almost everyone I knew back then was Catholic. The money may have been a highlight for some kids but at least all of us were strongly advised (by teachers and our own parents, I think) to give some of it to charity, which most of us did, as far as I can recall.

Are you actually serious? Children aren't "bribed" to undergo those Catholic sacraments. That implies that at some stage people would have sat down with their children and said that if they go through with their Communion or Confirmation, then they'll get lots of money for it. And that doesn't happen.

I was given money for those events in my life, and it has had no negative effect on my money management or life skills, thank you very much. I have a job, and have no problems controlling what I spend.

Think before you make generalised comments like that.

By some, I assume you mean very few! You're not being bribed to undergo these sacraments, as _meehan_ said, nobody tells you you'll get loads of money for doing it. As for the feckless relatives, their money= their decision as far as I'm concerned, if they see the child as a deserving recipient of their money, it's nobody else's business.

I received money when I made my communion and confirmation, but the amounts I was given will be of no significance to the sum total of the money I will earn in my lifetime, I have made more than 15 times it (rough calculation) through summer jobs, etc. already.
I don't see my money management skills as corrupt in any way, I spend where necessary, save where possible, that's all there is to it.
