I read Double Indemnity a little while ago and am nearly finished The Grifters now. The first was particularly good, the Grifters is good too.

I have World War Z lined up next.

The Kindly Ones by Jonathan Littell. So far so good but often quite harrowing graphic fiction about life in Nazi Germany. Its written from the perspective of a gay SS officer who drifted into the SS and who has no hatred of the Jews.

I read this a few months back. It's very long, but it's really a great book.

Must read for anyone into the Second World War

They're probably the best books I've ever read. You're in for a treat... Are you watching the show by any chance? Because it will spoil the books for ya.

They are great books. Is it your first forray into fantasy? If so, and you clearly like it, there are much better books of similar settings you should try. Such as Raymond E Feist & Steven Erikson. Not taking away form Martin. he's good but if you like him you might love these.

I've actually steered clear of the books because it's a top quality TV show, so I'm going to enjoy it without the books spoiling it on me! There are hundreds of books I want to read, so I'm content to let these ones pass me by while I enjoy the series so much!

Skagboys by Irvine Welsh, a prequel to Trainspotting, set in the 80’s

Been meaning to read it for ages and with Thatcher’s recent demise, got a chuckle at the first topic being the minors' strikes.
There is a strange taste to the nostalgia though, reading it off a Kindle..

Under The Banner of Heaven by John Krauker.

Really interesting look at Mormon fundamentalism in America. Lots of names to keep track of, but otherwise a great read so far.
