Seems a bit extreme. It works fine with a ni card.

Cannot put BBC2 England on CH 102 or BBC1 London on CH 101 using Blue button trick, I can however record on them using the method described by
    Racket on another thread.
BBC Red Button Channels Recordable in Other Channels Sky+

I wonder if this is to do with BBC coverage of the Winter Olympics, or if it may mean the beginning of the end of the Blue button trick, as we know it?

Hi, can I ask what might be a really stupid question? Got my NI card yesterday. Is it the UK number I should ring to activate rather than the Irish one? Presuming that it is. Thanks.

Who did you get a NI card from? or where did you get it?

You don't need to activate it to do the trick as far as I know.

I got a relative in Belfast to order it for me; he's just had it activated so am trying it out now.

Oh. I was going by posts further back on this thread so thought you had to.
Have tried it but when I put my sub ROI card back in the other channels have disappeared from the EPG and I do have them in the "other channels" section.
Any suggestions? I've tried it now with both 105 and 501.

Are you sure you have the right variations of say Channel 5 for NI? - add the whole lot of them to make sure ... maybe start with something like BBC News 24 to see if its working.

Ah when the sky guy installed the box a few weeks ago he put loads of channels in the "other channels" bit, a lot of duplicates and I got rid of the duplicates so perhaps I removed the NI variations. Will give that a go. Thanks for the help :)

Okay tried that and still no difference. The furthest I get is when I put ROI card back in it will have 5 on 105 but if I change channel it goes and there's nothing in the EPG reflecting the NI card. I've tried again with 501.

When I put the NI card in should I at that stage be able to record from it or only if the trick works?
When I put in either the NI or ROI cards should the EPG or 998 come on automatically after a few minutes or only if I wait a few minutes and press the on button or sky button on the remote, because otherwise the screen stays blank.

Firstly do you have a HD subscription??

    If not -

Here is what I do when it plays tricks with me - when the box is on a subscription channel take out your Irish card and insert the NI FTA one ... the screen will read "this is the incorrect card for this box" .... you then know that the box is reading the card. Leave the NI card in and power off the box for about a minute, switch back on and let the NI epg populate (103 UTV).

Then on 103 (UTV) , just re-input the Irish card and wait maybe a minute and all the Irish/NI channels should be on without returning back to 998 ... this method has never not worked for me.

    I do have HD subscription.

Tried that and it didn't work. It goes to 998.
When I take the ROI card out and put in the NI card on a sub channel 106, 107 etc the message is "this viewing card is not authorised. Call your broadcaster for assistance".

Thats your problem. Others have posted here and said the HD sub was not allowing the trick to work other than using the blue button.

Ah there is your problem - the trick does not work with an active HD subscription ... you will have to cancel your subscription to put them on the EPG.

The full trick will not work with HD pack only blue button trick

Aww Sh!te! I thought it worked with sub or no sub! We've just started the contract and otherwise happy enough. Presume this doesn't work on an old sky + box that's not HD?

What do you mean about the blue button?

Sorry guys for wasting your time.

    ETA: :D:D
Just figured the blue button thing and more than happy with that and it also records! Didn't expect that. Thanks again to all for their help and patience.

No it only works on a HD box without the HD pack.

How did you get saorview channels like Rte news and Rte +1 on sky ?
He said a combo box so i'm assuming that the EPG is a generic one made to look like sky - notice the lack of a numbering system (101. RTÉ One etc.).. it looks good and if the box can deal with it then why not.

So what box is that ? Picks up saorsat and freesat and has so much sky epg look to it ?

Lookes very good. But surely sky will have issues with it as they will have copy rights ?

Maybe I'm completely off the mark here but I think its an epg from a source that can't be mentioned on boards.

Apart from maybe the logo the rest of it is actually quiet a bit different in terms of the small details so enough is probably changed for there not to be issues with copy right.

Check out the amiko alien thread in the terrestrial forum.
The box takes 2 Satellite feeds and a UHF feed which allows you to get all the Saorview and UK FTA channels, all legally.

With regard to the EPG, it's just a GUI skin that someone developed. There are loads to choose from. It's not an exact replica of sky's so there should not be an issue.

The system is a lot better than sky's and there are no bills.
