Do the 22's have ATP system or does the information got to CTC?

Only the DARTs have ATP and is used with CAWS. The 22s use CAWS (sets 1-6 also have TPWS and AWS for NIR requirements) .

I see what you were on about now in the photos. I always thought the DART had APT to prevent SPADs. Good idea to add it to CAWS as a driver can run a SPAD fairly easy even with CAWS in place.

No they don't have ATP equipment.

This new system is called CAWS-ATP hybrid. A google search tells us:

    http://de.mercell.com/m/mts/Tender/20562703.aspx
Iarnród Éireann intends to source a replacement product for the existing vehicle borne component of their CAWS (Continuous Automatic Warning System) and ATP ( Automatic Train Protection) systems. The current equipments are nearing the end of their life expectancy and it is required to develop a hybrid replacement solution to maintain the current fleet, both diesel and electrical, and satisfying the requirements for new rolling stock, both diesel and electrical, into the future.
It is required that a combined hybrid system would be developed compatible with the existing wayside, on-board systems of CAWS and ATP. While also providing some enhanced features and a migration path to ETCS. The contract structure is as follows:
    — Phase 1 - Indentifying the requirements and developing a solution through to prototype, testing and safety validation/ approval stages,
    — Phase 2 - A subsequent framework agreement covering the manufacture and supply of the equipment,
    — Phase 3 - Individual drawdown supply contracts to be entered into over the 10 year life of the Framework, with an obligation to maintain and supply spare parts for 10 years after the purchase of the system.

Interesting that they have contracted Alstom - an organisation which hasn't distinguished itself in its contributions to Irish railways.

Could I suggest that a photo discussion thread be established, so that this can just be kept for photos?

I know things crop up out of the photos, but it's nice to keep this thread simply for photos.

Right you want photos? So here is more photos :)

    Evening all,

The plan was simple. Get out of the office and drive to Tramore via Clonmel to photograph the 1625 Waterford - Limerick Jct. Then into Waterford to photograph the 1150 Claremorris - Waterford Timber arriving at Waterford. Finally pick up the Girlfriend off the 1640 ex Heuston and head out to Tramore. As I said the plan was simple.....

Photographs got at Clonmel. Driving towards Carrick-on-Suir and debating whether to drop it for another time as time was tight to make the timber at Waterford. Then the gen text came in and read out over the car's Bluetooth. 082 failed mid section Carlow - Muine Bheag with the timber. Chaos about to descend onto the Waterford Line, therefore plenty of time to pop in to Carrick and amble onto Waterford to see the recent changes at this location. Sadly I never got to see the timber today :(

A summary of delays to Waterford line services tonight due to the failure:
The 1640 Heuston - Waterford terminated at Carlow and returned empty to Heuston. The 1735 Heuston - Waterford was 54 minutes late & the 1835 Heuston - Waterford was 30 minutes late arriving into Waterford. The 1825 Waterford - Heuston was delayed at Kilkenny and arrived into Heuston 36 minutes late.

Finally, due to no available set the 1825 Heuston - Portlaoise was cancelled . The nominated train was stuck at Muine Bheag operating from Waterford to Heuston. This 3ICR (22061) eventually went empty to Wateford and will form the 0605 Waterford - Heuston on Saturday morning.

I see 073 is going back to it's roots with it's black and orange access door. Taken off 084 perhaps? Goes to show they they really did overhaul the body work and replaced it on the grey 071s and didn't just repaint them otherwise there wouldn't be any black and orange body parts left.

Could have taken them from a 141 too.

Not in this case, if you look at it it could only have come from an 071, the vent slots are a perfect match for the opposite door. No way it came off a 141.

From a height, a DART approaches platform 6 as a 29000 sits in the wash road, her new green livery standing out.

Now that's something you don't see every day! I suppose there will be a preservation group set-up to rescue the tender. :D

I hope so. It looks very lonely there down in the deep blue sea. :D

Interesting read on Wikipedia about it.

"Off to the port side of the wreck level with the blast area can be found one of the steam locomotives which had been stored as deck cargo and the other locomotive is off the starboard side level with Hold No. 2."
