Utter guff, and I think you know it.

Politics in the Southern US, from the end of the civil war until the 1960s, used to be dominated by segregationist Democrats. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solid_South

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lyndon_johnson#Civil_rights
Johnson signed the revised and stronger [Civil Rights] bill into law on July 2, 1964. Legend has it that, as he put down his pen, Johnson told an aide, "We have lost the South for a generation", anticipating a coming backlash from Southern whites against Johnson's Democratic Party.

Lincoln was a Republican. Hard to believe, today...

    Life ain't always empty.

Someone told me over lunch today that Santorum said recently:
"Of course there should be separation of church and state, there's no way the state should be able to tell the church what to do!"

Normally, I'd think he was pulling my leg but in truth, the republicans running for this are that f*cking mental, I wouldn't be surprised.

Anyone know if this quote is actually true though?

That's the most recent thing I've been able to find on Santorum and Church/State matters.

Don't know, but it actually sounds like something Ron Paul would say.

Santorum wants to ban hard core pornography.

That'll swing a lot of votes in his favour I'm sure.

I don't know what you call hardcore porn but to me it doesn't involve any lube.

Have a look at some of the imagery in this Santorum ad: trying to associate Obama with Iran and Islamic terrorism.

If he doesn't make it as President, Santorum should consider going into film making

I have to say that -though I claim no great knowledge of American political history - I was fairly sure that "Racist Democratic politicians" were in fact people, and not only that, but were voted for by others, who were adjudged to be people too. "Dixiecrats" was the term, if I recall.

Exactly, no lube, only half the ingredients for Santorum.

Impossible to tell what Santorum actually did say next since the video is cut, but in any case, here's Santorum losing the rag:

Anyone see the latest South Park? They got Santorum's ****-eating grin absolutely spot-on.

Santorum is out: "while this presidential race is over for me, we are not done fighting". I wonder if he's aiming at the Veepship?

I'm sure there's room for him in Sarah Palin's reality TV show.

I'm struggling to see the distinction, now you mention it ...

^^^ First one is a reality tv show about Sarah Palin; second is a tv show about Sarah Palin's reality.

I've seen the latter on cable. It's called Bibleman. It's sh*te.

I'm late to this thread so I'm sure it's been said but this is (relatively) bad news for the Democrats. Obama would have seen a landslide against Santorum, less so against Romney.

This is true. It also gives Romney/the Republican Party time to develop strategies to combat Obama (Rove is getting the ball running). If Santorum had held in to the bitter end it would have given the Party even less time. Then again many feel a lot of damage has been done already with the various Republican candidates spending months taking shots at and digging up dirt on each other - doing Obama's dirty work for him so to speak. The fact that it has taken so long to get a candidate compiled with the fact that quite a few Republicans don't even trust Romney shows a lack of strong candidates in the Party. It will be tough for the Republicans to put up a strong challenge now.
