Welcome to the sub 3:30 club - well done - thought I saw you alright just behind the balloons on Nassau St. although I didn't see Mr. Slow emblazoned on your top so couldn't be sure.

3:41:09 - Apart from my very first, this was approx. 20 mins. slower than previous worst. I found the heat & humidity tough and cut back on my target time very early on, resetting (from 3:15) to 3:20, but started cramping from 14 or so - same leg as last year! I'm sore everywhere today - can't remember ever feeling as bad. After I finished yesterday, I cramped, simultaneously, in my right calf, right hamstring and right buttock!:eek::eek: I don't ever want to feel that again!! .........nevertheless, a previous post reminded me that I still made a Boston qualifying time in my category, so maybe I shouldn't be so hard on myself.

.....licking my wounds, but already analysing what went wrong, and planning for 2012!

The one thing that p1ssed me off on the day was the amount of people who threw bottles into ditches, hedges, gardens etc. (although I was too preoccupied to say anything). What is the point in that ? Why not throw them in the gutter where they can be easily collected ?

And another thing: don't they teach English in schools anymore ? The amount of signs that said "your great" or "your the best". Seriously ?

Found it very humid yesterday and found it very tough going from mile 12 - 15, legs were very tired and hurting in places they had never hurt before...then something happened in mile 15, might have been something to do with the crowds and calling my name, as it was on my top, but i just relaxed into the running and things got a bit easier for me.

IT band problem kicked in at mile 18 but thankfully i remember the 2 nurofen i had, took these and kept going...turned out onto dual carriage way and i just really started to try and pick up the pace, mile 25, 26 and the .2(.5 on garmin) were my fastest miles

Got over the line in 4:26:12, so delighted with that. That 15mins faster than last year. Thats my garmin time and I’m sticking with that as my chip is not on either the marathon site or the timing site...it gives a reading until halfway on the timing site and then I disappear!!!

Overall i enjoyed the day, hated the coldness after the race from being so wet, but there is nothing we can do about the weather...thinking there might be a 4.14.59 in there somewhere:D

Great to meet some of you after the race in the pub...i enjoyed a few drinks when i got home last night and went for a 2m stroll with the kids today and the legs are ok, but maybe tomorrow it will be a different story!!!!

Hi all - I've been a keen follower of this thread over recent months but this is my first contribution. Dublin 2011 was my second marathon after Cork earlier this year and managed to cut my time from 4h 09m to 3h 38m so was well pleased. However, it would seem that there was a problem with my chip as there is no record of my finishing time on the marathon site and the tds site has a record of me at all of the time points up to, but excluding, the finishing line (despite visual evidence of me passing the finsihing line over Jerry Kiernan's shoulder on RTE Realplayer!). While I have all of the imporant info on my Garmin, it would be nice to have an official time. Have sent an email to the 'infomation' email address on the Dublin site but no response as yet...any suggestions or is it a lost cause?

This was my first marathon. I religiously followed the P&d 18 week 55 mile program but I screwed up my right hamstring 2 before the race. I tried everything to fix it up but I wasn’t able to train at all and was full sure I couldn’t do the marathon. I only went up to Dublin because my Girlfriend was running too. I registered on the Sunday pretty sure that I probably wouldn’t be picking up a medal on Monday. I got talking to a guy at the expo form the Clonakilty marathon stand and told him my dilemma He told me I wouldn’t be getting any sympathy there and too man up and run!

I woke up on race day feeling terrible and told my other half I wasn’t going to it. She said to at least start, I had nothing to loose. So I started with her and popped some painkillers before setting off. The leg felt painful starting and got progressively worse. I remember being in agony around 4 miles. Then in the phoenix park some guy barged past I fell to the ground. The next few miles were terrible. I found it so hard to run. But then around mile 9 I started to feel a little better. The GF told me to push on. I was following the 4 hr pacers. I couldn’t believe I was still running. I ran by the pacers and tried to build up a bit of a cushion for a sub 4 hour time. Miles 19- 25 were harder. My leg was getting sore again and I popped more tablets. I got a second wind coming into the city and managed to finish strong.

I was so happy crossing the line in 3 hrs 58 mins. I can’t believe I finished. My girlfriend was amazing in the early stages (She finished in 4:22). The pacers were great, the crowds were unreal, they helped so much. There was such a good atmosphere. Even though it was painful running it was impossible not smile. I loved the signs and all the kids’ high fiving.

I can’t wait for my next marathon. A few things I learned from this one:
    • Respect the distance. 26.2 miles is a lot or running. My initial goal was optimistic and I don’t know if I could have made it even if I wasn’t injured.
    • I wouldn’t recommend the P&D program for a first time marathoner.
    • Listen to your body. It ok to miss a session here and there.
    • I'd substitute some cross training maybe once a week for a recover run.
    • Stretch, there is no point starting to stretch after after you get injured

Congratulations to everyone who achieved their goals yeaterday and hopefully those who didn't do as well as they wished are planning their next race already.
My 7th marathon and it definitely does get easier...Garmin showed 3.34.35 as I crossed the line. 5 weeks ago I wouldn't have thought I could have topped the feelings of joy I felt in Berlin but yesterday was out of this world:D:D a massive PB for me but what I'll remember most from DCM 2011 was the support from the crowds, I loved every minute of this race.

And I made it onto the cover of the Irish Examiner and again on page 3 today. My husband reminded me that since I've started running I've lost weight EVERYWHERE so I'm not exactly page 3 material:eek:

He ran a fantastic first marathon in 3.43, crossed the line with our 13 year old son and couldn't believe how emotional he was.
He says he finally understands why I love running so much... I reminded him that I am always right;)

Well done everyone who participated, whether walking, jogging, running or flipping flying (like the elites). We were on the Kimmage Road (near the two girls with the signs) and I had a sign to encourage 3 workmates who all completed the distance. Apart from shouting encouragement at them, my wife, kids & I were shouting "encouragement" at everyone else - hopefully it wasn't too annoying and if you happened to have your name on your shirt you didn't mind me personalising the encouragement! :o And if it wasn't your name, it might have been a club that I knew, that I'd recognised you from races in Wexford or that I saw you wearing a Boards top. Basically any excuse at all. Anyway, well done. I'll link my photos when I get a chance.

Have to say I was seriously impressed with the amount of support from people as we all passed, alot of work gone into some very creative signs and I noticed the same chap twice in two different locations with the obligatory "Careful Now!" sign :)

Lots of kids out supporting us as well which was great, great to see so many get into the whole event be in just cheering people on, looking to high 5 people as they passed or handing out jelllys.

I think it says alot when you see so many people out cheering in the city for several hours, made a great atmosphere :)

My photos are dreadful as i always get caught side on or just in part of a shot.

See that The Irish Times have a nice slideshow of the marathon including the pacers and you can play 'spot the Vaggabond in the Boards jersey' if you've the times.

Been so busy with various things I never got around to posting a link to the photos on RacePix here.

All in all there's over 6,000 there (that makes it the most photos from a race on RacePix to date!). The photos that appear on RacePix can be added by absolutely anyone with a camera, so there's all different sorts of photos there - a few boardsies put theirs up as well (dodgeykeeper, xebec, woddle, daymobrew...).

Just over a third of them can be searched by bib number. If you spot a photo of yourself it'd be great if you could add the bib number to the photo and the other numbers in shot. That way it makes it easier for others looking for photos (there's less photos in the untagged photos collection and the other people in your shot will be able to find themselves by searching by bib number)

If anyone has any photos that they want added just let me know - currently RacePix.com performs searches for photos on flickr, picasa and zenfolio.

I must say I'm cheesed off with this too. My time on the website is 3 or 4 minutes wrong (thankfully its too fast rather than too slow as I came 3 mins under my target - 3/4 mins wrong the other way and I'd be like a bear). My splits are all over the shop. On my Garmin I did first 10 k in 52mins, on splits I did it in 39 mins - thus taking 7 mins off my personal best for 10k! Seriously though its not good enough. I've never done Dublin before but I've done Cork twice and both times I had an email / text from the organisers with my chip time within an hour of finishing. Its the least you'd expect............

4:04:11. Very happy with the time for my first one. Was on pace for a Sub 4 but the fatigue after 18 miles prevented that. The support from the RDS all the way in was phenomenal. Ran it in the Vibrams too. Onward and Downwards* for Cork next June.

    * timewise that is :pac:

I saw you on Nassau St. and didn't know whether to shout your real or boards name and then you were gone. I knew you were in a happy place heading for a PB.

In fairness you were giving as much if not more encouragement to the crowd as they were giving you.

Well done to you and your husband - looks like you're gonna have some competition at home.

If you are 3-4 minutes faster on the website, it's likely that the chip failed and you started in the wave in front of the one you were supposed to. You have been given the guntime of the wave you were supposed to start in.

The '10k' split on the website is actually your 5 mile split. The '30k' split is actually your 20 mile split.

Well done marthastew, great improvement on Berlin and you're now Boston Qualified :D Pass my congrats on to the Husband as well.

When I actually came in in 3' 58" on my watch. Do you think the chip time will be adjusted to allow for the delay in crossing the start line.

Must admit I did not like the narrow street the Green Group were sent down for the start line.
