Do Al Jazeera show much Champions League football? Would they show the qualifiers and most group games? Or do they mainly show matches involving the bigger clubs, like those screened by RTE etc?

They show all games from the group stages onwards. I can't say what exactly they will show from the qualifying rounds.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,260 ✭✭✭mightybashful

Didn't they show 7 group stages matches of a night in arabic and 1 of those 7 in English across channels 1 - 8 last season? They showed a few qualifiers too. Showed quite a lot of Europa league on a Thursday too

They usually put a game on +9 or +10 also :( True about the Arabic language but its better than nowt

Ireland vs Hungary was on in Arabic only before the euros last month.

Not sure which was harder. Trying to understand what they were saying, or having to watch that muck.

Anybody heard anything about the SPL coverage on JSC, i.e. is there going to be any? Last season was their third year and rights deals are normally for three years, five years, this and after reading the SPL have lost a 15 millon quid overseas carriage deal makes me wonder. Dont get me wrong if theres none then fair play JSC is still awesome fir the money, its just nobody else has asked have they?

There were advertising the Glasgow derby on jsc up until a couple of weeks ago, and I asked jsc on twitter today about next season.....

@Jsc_Sports: Yes will be broadcast on channels Al Jazeera Sports +1 to +8 of

The SPL haven't lost any TV deal. That was a lie peddled by the SFA to try force the other clubs to allow sevco into the SPL. It could well be renegotiated due to a Celtic v rangers clause although considering how little money sky put into scottish football compared to their revenue there it may not be the wisest move.

Thanks mate, what I was referring to was a article I read in the Metro (A daft freebie paper you get on public transport over here!) which is from the same print house as the Record so it comes as no surprise that its alot of sh*te mate, thanks again.

Doncaster came out after the SPL meeting on Monday and backtracked a bit on that 15 million loss statement, and was unable to say what would happen next. Clubs won't be as well off next season though either way that's for sure.

One thing I'd have me doubts over is that jsc's coverage comes direct from sky / espn. If they did pull the plug what'd happen then?

I would have thought that JSC got their coverage from an international feed that used the Sky/ESPN commentary. They always had different score DOG's to Sky or ESPN anyway.

I'm surprised there's going to be coverage at all. Bound to be huge drop in ratings. You'd think tv companies would have a get out clause but I suppose they never thought it happen

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 75 ✭✭Ghostleader

Well last season they showed a couple of 3pm games not involving Celtic or Rangers and not being shown on BBC Alba delayed, one of which they cut to the game to early and I saw the feed uplink screen and to my surprise it was a BT uplink.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 75 ✭✭Ghostleader

SiS outdoor do the games normally at the ground uplinking wise, av been many a time and saw the wagons fae Celtic park, tae Ibrox, St Mirren etc, always SiS.

Aparently there is a get out clause for sky if the 2 Glasgow sides dont play each other at least 4 times a season. Remains to be seen if they exercise it. Or use it as leverage to pay a reduced fee to the SPL

You lay wae the beast and now $ky & BT hiv all the rights between them, noo pi*h aff back tae the states! (Sorry rant over)

Does anyone know if it's possible to buy an expired Al Jazeera card to renew it? Or is this illegal?

It is obviously possible to renew an expired Al Jazeera card. I topped up my own one, which had expired by a few months. You can generally get the card number checked before paying a topup fee, so the supplier can guarantee that the top up will clear. I'm not sure what the cut off point post card expiry is.

If someone gave you an expired Al Jazeera card, well worth enquiring. What are you being charged for an expired card? Can they guarantee that it is topup-able?

Oh I haven't been offered any for sale, I just took a look on ebay and a couple of other sites and couldn't see any used cards for sale. Just thought with the price difference between renewing and buying new, there might be somewhere that sells them

You'd be better buying a new card with the 12 month subscription, which you can renew later.

There have been changes to the Al Jazeera Viaccess card a year or so ago, so you could end up with the older redundant card that cannot be renewed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 261 ✭✭Premier

All expired cards can be renewed irdeto or viaccess.
Their is a problem at the minute regarding 3 month prepaid cards being sold as 12 month cards and the supplier going missing. these cards are being sold through internet auction sites and other means.( Not them all )

A problem can arise through dealers obtaining cards through legit sources and not passing on the payments received by the end customer. This can result in batch numbers being switched off or being reported stolen to aljazeera and in turn cards will be blacklisted. However it is rare

there is a difference in price by buying new and renewing, usually around 20 quid

Hmm, that's strange then, as I had to get a Viaccess card replaced with a new version in order to see out the rest of a subscription (I think more time was added on). I can't remember the details now, but the card number had to start with a certain 3 or 4 digits, which signalled the version of Viaccess the card was.

Yes it can happen, have heard a few stories but have never come accross 1 i couldnt renew?

yah, newer cards had to start 322. Older ones had older verion of Viaccess seemingly.

Hi guys, I am planning to renew my al jazeera sport card, I have been told that I need a viaccess CAM in order for the renewal to take place, do you know if the Ariva 120 has a built in viaccess CAM? Cheers

i think it was three years ago they showed every celtic and rangers games bar one or two including the 3pm saturday games.

for the last 2 seasons they have showed most games that were on sky and espn but no 3 pm sat games. its hit and miss but the bigger games are all usually covered.

its a great subscription for the price.

the only channel that showed all the celtic matches last season was setanta africa and it is on about 5 satellites but only 2 are available in ireland. its on 68.2e which is just over the horizon and its encrypted in conax. see footprint link

    http://www.intelsat.com/flash/coverage-maps/sat_foot.html?sat=IS-10%20at%2068.5%BA%20E&display=map&spot=2

it is also available on c band free to air on 10 east but you would need a big dish, footprint below

    http://www.eutelsat.com/satellites/10e-w2a_popd.html#

i dont know if they will show the same amount of games next year but if they were to i'd consider a c band dish.

feeds are very hit and miss and are sometimes encrypted anyway.

What Celtic games could you pick up with a Sky dish and what subscription would you need?

Has Al Jazeera given up on the SPL? It looks that way as they haven't shown anything yet this season. I assumed this was due to the olympics dominating their schedules but I see that it is not scheduled for next weekend either.
