Worst show of 2010 for me. Without spoiling much there's a lot of middling about in the next few episodes with hardly anything happening. Stupid conflicts between characters take up 20 minutes at a time when they could be resolved in a few simple scenes.

It's a very confused kind of series. Nothing in it seems logical, like it can't make up its mind which way to progress the plot. It's like a soap opera.

I seem to recall Kirkman joking about having the hospital idea telepathically stolen by 28 Days Later on the letters page in the comic book.

I watched the first two episodes of The Walking Dead on channel five where it was sponsored by RAGE (a video game) - which to me was just another constant reminder of 28 Days Later.

The repeat of episode 1 is on now on RTE2.

    No, that's actually Eamonn Dunphy!

Randomly stumbled upon this on RTE right now. Might give the rest of the episodes a shot - first episode seems decent.

Whatever you do don't shoot or make a loud noise. It attracts the walkers. Later... Hey son stay here I'm going upstairs to shoot a bit and attract loads of walkers to endanger your life but it's important because it will be an emotional scene about me trying to get over your mother. You understand.

    When is season 2 out?

I didn't understand why a trained cop was using matches to light his way in a dark stairwell in a hospital. There would be plenty of torches/flashlights in a hospital.
Otherwise everything else was scientifically correct including the half zombie crawling through the park.

I recall reading Kirkman talking about the 28 Days Later similarities, as far as I'm aware the script for the comic was finished before the film was released. To be hones pretty much all of 28 Days Later is lifted from elsewhere, it's a great film don't get me wrong but doesn't have an original idea of it's own.

Not to mention the last episode.

Just having a look see again tonight having watched it some months ago.

I found it formulaic, cliched, predictable and increasingly dull and silly.

Wanted to like it but it's so far off other quality dramas coming out of the US right now.

I got the first season a few months ago ... watched a few episodes but the appeal wasn't there for me to finish off the season .

I'm loving this so far, but as always i feel RTE are ruining it with their adverts for the following episode. They did this with Lost too and it really bugged me.

Great series guys. Can't wait for season 2. It will be the regular 13 episodes, rather than the short run it had for season 1.

For anyone with a big interest in it now, it is based on a comic series (not for kids).

I read a little of them, but didn't want to spoil anything so I stopped. It doesn't stick to it completely. There are characters in the series that weren't dead on the show when the season finished, but died in the comic.

The comic creator is quite involved in the project.

The guy that plays Shane was in a couple of episodes of The Pacific.

The one that plays Lori was in Prison Break. Didn't watch that, so no idea if she's always as annoying.

"Dale" and "Andrea" were in The Mist together. Couldn't twig why them looked familiar until now. Liked that movie.

Ahh, sweet - I never twigged that. Cheers!

I must have been living under a rock but I had never heard anything about this series. Was watching tv Saturday night and just flicked over and found this just starting. I had missed rte's introduction so I didn't even know the name of what I was about to watch, or that it would be about zombies.
I have to say it grabbed my attention straight away, with the bit at the start where the little blonde haired girl turns around and is a zombie and he has to shoot her, I was like wtf just happened?!
Continued watching and told my boyfriend when he came into the room that a film was after starting, "it seems to be something like 28 days later, but it looks good so far ", he took one look and informed me that it was a tv series.
I hadn't even seen it advertised and was convinced it was a film.:o
Anyhow, I really enjoyed it. I watched the second one on monday and enjoyed that too.
I'm not usually a huge fan of zombie or monster type things, but I have to say that both episodes held my interest very well for the entire time and I will follow this series.
As I said normally zombie type things bore me and don't scare me enough, but I feel this show is really good at building up tension.
The bit where the little boy is spying out at his mum who is a zombie, I was like "get the hell away from the window child!, oh crap I think she saw him."
Then she came up to the door and seemed to know that she was being watched through the spy hole, then the door handle just started twisting and creaking slowly, I can tell you I was holding the cushion fairly tightly to my chest!:D
Looking forward to the rest of the series.

Caught up with this on the RTE player yesterday. Big fan of the 1970's Romero zombie films so glad to see that this was similar in terms of the zombie bhaviour.....not a big fan of speedy zombies in more recent films.

Very impressed with the first two episodes...thought the scene where the crowd attack and eat the horse was very effective, innovative and quite shocking. Haven't seen an image like that in TV or film before

Got around to watching episode 2 today. Loved it. Can't wait to see more. Great to see RTE showing a show like this.

Yup, I enjoyed last nights episode. I hadn't copped that
the woman and kid were Rick's family!
So that was a nice twist for me.

Looking forward to the next one

Brilliant stuff! I love zombie stuff, and am a fan of Andrew Lincoln from his time in Teachers (another great series). Unmissable. Great gore.

Still excellent after 3 episodes. Has the production values of a film, or so it feels. Just one point on episode three -
why did he saw through his wrist? The links on the cuffs didn't look particularly thick and he only needed to get through one (unless they're made from adamantium).

ya another fan of the show here. i just wish i would stop coming across the ads for the next episode and spoiling my viewing for the next day.

From what I can make of it, he seen the Z's at the door and didnt wat to take the chance of trying saw through the links incase they broke through the dor and decided that his hand was the quickest way to do it.

    Also, I love this show.:pac:

Will be interesting to see how and when
Micheal Rooker makes a return with his one hand. Such a brilliant character actor so we deffo haven't seen the last of him

    on your spoiler point
im pretty sure you cant saw through hand cuffs links with a hacksaw. you need bolt cutters at least. its hardened/toughed steel.

personally i cant help wondering why he didnt take a shot at the thing he was cuffed to first. that bar/joint looked rusted to bits, i thought he was big enough to kick it out of place allowing him to just slip the other part off. also kinda wondering how he got off the roof without going through the door :)

Perhaps you're right. I'll, er, experiment tonight.

Probably the only show on at the moment that kept me watching, great show and can't wait for the 2nd series. I love zombie films so this is great for me. There are so many un-answered questions!!
