Tuna steak is also delicious if you marinade it for say 30 mins in teriyaki sauce and then pan fry for about 3 mins each side. Serve with noodles and loads of veg..delish

    Hi there
For the past 2 weeks, I've been weighing and tracking as usual, but decided to add some walking into the mix.
I've been walking 5k in 40 mins, 5 times a week for 2 weeks. The first week I only lost a half pound, and this week I was up 1.5lbs.
I actually cried at WI yesterday I was so distraught!
I haven't counted any extra points for exercise as I think people tend to grossly over esimate what they earn and at the end of the day, its a walk, not power lifting :)
My leader reassures me that i'll "suddenly" see a reduction, but I'm feeling really low.
Any suggestions? I havta add, I was always skeptical of people who claimed to gain weight when they started exercising, as the whole premise of weight loss seems to be "move more, eat less...."
Sorry for the negativity, just needed to let it out :(

hey stick with it , were all in the same boat , only thing i can think of is Time Of The Month , women usually put on weight during that week , so maybe that happened with you ??? how much water are you drinking ??? u need to drink at least 2 litres a day and u will see a loss and maybe a big one is due to you , keep your chin up

    Hi MT,
Hope your feeling better for sharing. That does sound really strange.
Have you noticed a difference in your clothes? Could you be losing inches from all the walking? Maybe it's muscle?
Were you consistently losing every week up until now?

Maybe you shld try eating some of your activity points. I know it's hard to accurately gauge how much you've earned. But even eat a quarter or half of them, so you're not going overboard.

Hope things improve for you soon.

I agree a big loss is heading your way, get out the measuring tape as well! it may show as much on the scales when you do a lot more exercise than your used to, but it will show in your clothes. if its a new thing to do that much walking then it will blance out and you will see a difference on the scales.

I went for a walk last night, was planning on having a day off as Ive been walking every day the last two weeks! but was glad I went enjoyed it and walked futher than I expected, baby was not to happy near then end he decided he wanted feeding early so had to speed walk home! I have a feeling I might STS or show a gain this week with all the exercise, see what happens on thursday morning!

    Thanks guys :)
Just to answer a few queries.
I'd love to say I was effected by TOTM, but I started pro points in Jan and lost 1-1.5lbs a week consistently til March.
Start of March gave up the smokes, and stopped going for a while cos I decided one to focus on one thing at a time.
Went back 2 weeks ago, ready to get stuck in again, this time adding exercise. to get rid of the weight I gained kickin my bad habit.
I am gob smacked. This plan worked great for me, I'm cooking from scratch, eating healthy whole foods, weighing and measuring everything. I know I'm not cheating.
The only thing is I'm CRAP at drinking water. Even with squash, i cannot drink unless I feel thirsty, and its a struggle to get it into me.
Thanks for letting memoan tho, its so frustrating when you think your doing the right things but not getting the results. I'll really work on the water!

probably mostly all bull to be honest but you never know

congrats on kicking the habit tho

Shoe Lover, definitely going to try the tuna fillet. Where do you buy yours? And would you add any herbs or spices or anything to it, if you don't would you suggest any good ones I could add to it? Also, would cooking it under the grill, turning once, be ok?

Sorry for all the questions :)

I got mine in the local fishmonger. All I did was brush it with a tiny bit of olive oil and pan fry it on a grill pan (My new toy :D). I'm sure there's loads you could do to it, I was just being safe cos it was the first time I cooked it. The teriyaki idea sounds nice! Might try that the next time :D

Yeah, I'd say you'd be fine cooking it under a grill or a George Foreman, if you have one! Or just in a non-stick frying pan!

Hi MT well i pretty much think you've answered your own query! If you are particularly bad at drinking water it sounds to me like you are retaining water. You need to drink extra water the days you are exercising.

You are doing a pretty good pace at 5km in 40 mins so you should be working up quite a sweat & you need to replenish that so try & consume some extra water I know it's hard but it is a necessity I agree with the others you will see the loss on the scales in the coming wks, don't give up!

I'd also echo you may need to eat a bit more or change up your foods if you find yourself at a plateau. We've all been through it but based on what you've said it sounds like water retention :)

just back from WI and am down another 3 pound :D.That is a total of 20 since i started on the 26th of April:).my goal weight is 12 stone so another 2 stone to go.
On another note about water retention, the exact same happened to me a few year back i was pointing all my food but was getting very little exercise due to been very unfit and i waited till i had lost a few pound before i started to do some gym work the first 2 weeks i was in the gym i gained a pound each week but on advice from the gym instructor i started to drink a lot more water and had a banana before every walk and low and behold on the third week i lost 4 pound so stick with the walk every day you will benefit from them in the long run.

Great news Harr well done! Can I just say I'm jealous at how quickly men lose weight! I average about a lb a week slow & steady yes but sometimes a quick Jolt would be nice! ;)

Caros best of luck today I'm sure all the changes you've implemented will stand to you :) i hope all goes well!

  • Registered Users Posts: 364 ✭✭fofany

Well done Harr on the 3 pound loss. I lost 1.5lbs at my WI. I was quite surprised! I think I'm always a week behind myself. I was really good 2 weeks ago, but stayed the same at WI last week, this past week I haven't been so good, but lost 1.5lbs. Don't know what that means for next week now!

Mother Teresa, I hope you get a good result next week. Maybe you're a week behind yourself, like me.

I can tell anyone no matter how good you are if you dont drink the water you wont losse weight my best weeks are those when i have a big fluid intake combine with lots of protein and suffient carbs also some essentail fats....

I dont really like water but i do manage to get it in by drinking fruit teas I make a pot every morning and put 2 splenda in the pot with 2 bags I drink the first cup hot and leave the rest in the pot supping from it all day over ice I alos now drink a glass of water with every meal instead of coke zero which I used to drink all the time.

You can get a lovely selection box of fruit tea's for about 1.55 in most supermarkets I use the twinnings fruit infusions selections.

I hat green tea and peppermint ant the camoline stuff the friut teas are much different so dont let the other Herbals out you off.:pac:

The book gives the points for braising steak and says 100g is 3PP - I think it's around the same.

I have my WI tonight and I'm not sure how things will go as I was away for the weekend and didn't track anything. But the one thing that stood out to me over the weekend was the fact that my habits have changed. I was so much more aware of what I chose to eat. In my previous life (:D) I would have had loads of crap in the car on the journey to the hotel, I would have gone crazy at the breakfast buffet and I would have eaten a load of crap in between meals too. I was very different this time. And it wasn't even a conscious decision - I actually never thought of buying junk for the car journey, I ate enough breakfast (but not too much) and I didn't eat again until lunch time. Yaay!!

And I know I'm about a week late with this topic but my mini-goals/achievements keep me going:

    Lost so far: 39.5lbs
BMI: Gone down from 34.4 to 28.3 (dropped from obese to overweight)
I am 1.5 stone from goal - never got there before but I'm determined this time.
Dress sizes - dropped 3 of them!

So you see, "is feidir linn" - yes, we can ladies and gents, yes we can!! :D

    I couldn't agree more Aspie mum :)

Those fruit teas are great if you fancy a change & fab idea to have over ice I may nab that idea ;) I drink alot of peppermint tea I was a total caffeine fiend & drank copious amounts of filter coffee, now I probably only have 1-2 cups of coffee a week as a treat, I swapped the coffee for peppermint tea, it was really hard to begin with but I find it a great way to get water into me & it's lovely & warm as well especially in the morning :)

Harr not at all you're doing great it won't be long until you see that 12! I'm there now but I want to see 9.10 - 10! We'll get there as long as we keep this up!

Fofany great news for you @ WI well done, not so great about the holiday hone but as you say at least you hadn't got lots of clothes & bedding in it! I hope you find a replacement reasonable enough :)

Back in from seeing the specialist and happy bunny am I!!!

The tabs I went on after Xmas do contribute to weight gain, kinda had that figured out myself when the best part of a stone crept on and I was no slim Jim to start with either!
I put my sugar levels and weight loss since WW in a spreadsheet for him just so he could see how one had impact on the other.

So he has decided with my new eating regime and the walking there won't be any insulin shots for me for the foreseeable future anyway, and he's taken me off the nasty weight gaining tabs - yah!! Mind you I've nearly lost that extra weight now with WW so the rest of it definitely cannot be blamed on the tabs!

Thanks for the support guys! x
