my mate and i did a bit of exploring one evening and came across it,
i'll send you a PM now and do my best to explain where it is :-)

I'd love to know too please, if you have a minute.

sure no problem, will send you the same PM,
anyone else wants to know just send me a PM,

i didn't want to post it here and kick off a big discussion because it might take away from the purpose of this thread :-)

Is the location a secret? why the Pm's? why not a link to the location on Google maps?

    no, it's not a secret,

i thought that the best thing to do would be to share with people privately so that the thread can be used for photo's,

but here is what I sent on to the other guys:

    1) you are standing in the top car park in ticknock, with the city behind you and the main roadway up the mountain ahead of you,
    2) don't go up the main roadway, go right about 50 metres across the carpark
    3) turn left and follow the road up through the woods for about 500 - 700 metres
    4) you come to an old barn yard, and a fork in the road,
    5) go left at the barn, and follow the trail up the hill keeping left,
    6) if you see a small shack/house half way up the hill you are going the right way, keep left of that and go straight up,

you can't really see the bunker until you are on top of it because you come at it from the side where the grass is covering,
there are other ways to get to it, but this is the most direct way (that I know)
you will be cycling/walking up against the grain so be careful there is not someone cycling down,
it's very open so you'll be able to see & hear people coming against you
when i was there we didn't meet anyone,

i have been trying to tag it on google maps but not having much luck,

Thanks - I've been up that track from the car park, but I went right at the barn, and eventually came out back up towards the peak.

ya i did the exact same thing too,

next time i go up i'll be bringing a proper camera rather than just my phone,
fingers crossed we get a couple of clear days!

The drop is the edge of the "butts" at the old firing range. The photos are great and make it look like an non man made object but in fact he is standing/ cycling on the edge of a concrete building/bunker that soldiers would have raised and lowered targets from.the mound he has taken the photo from is built to stop the rounds from traveling further. if you dig a few cms into the mount there are thousands of spent bullets still there.

It is a great spot and they are beautiful photos.

And on closer inspection it turns out the the inside arm of the derailleur cage snapped also, and a spoke got mashed - natually the spoke with the cool Ksyrium SL Premium graphics on it :-(

Took a spin through Mid-Kildare this evening and snapped this shot of Redhills and Dunmurry Hill, anyone who did the Tour of Kildare will know "The Wall" which sits in between them.

I don't have a picture but the image is burned into my mind.

Approaching Eniskerry mid afternoon today and before I overtook a fellow mamil, I got an eyeful of a very hairy arse through his seriously worn-out shorts.

We were approaching a corner at the time and I couldn't do anything about this image that was assaulting my eyes for at least 5 seconds; I'm going to have nightmares tonight.

Only upside is that I got a Personal best on the "Lovers Leap (Poggio)" segment as a direct result; I had to stay ahead of him !!!

    Apologies for sharing this ...

taken not far from Ticknock, Dublin.

my mate and I were out mountain biking in Ticknock and got a little lost,
we were cutting acros a field trying to get back to a roadway,
i looked around and saw this sunset behind me,

reminds me of something from the Lion King cartoon
