I too have tried to get numerous tickets and got nothing but frustrated. Going to try to get over to see the mens marathon. I assume public will be able to see this when it is out on the road and the full 26 miles will not be cordoned off for ticket holders only?

Correct, apart from the finish line obviously! The race is also televised on the big screen in the stadium. It's the triathlon that is extensively cordoned off.

G-Money.......£295, that's why people are returning these high price tickets. Having said that thou.............hmmmmmm...........it was the highlight for me, and the night I want most. I'd go for it. You already have tickets, cheapish flights, accomodation, my sister just bought a £280 coat in a sale. A coat v. an Olympics 5000m final?! Agree with 04072511 but unfortunately London 2012 is a different beast. You can always sell it should you get a cheaper alternative.

Thanks for that Bella mamma!! :)

3D2S - Do your course route homework and swap the easy outskirts of inner suburbia for a prime stake-out vantage point downtown, preferably at the end of a long road. The last 5 or 6 miles will be electric. Consider transport A1, so give consideration to heading quite close to the stadium too.

This is supposed to be the marathon route:

    http://connect.garmin.com/activity/89039796

Four laps of that and the difference between the start on Birdcage Walk and the finish on The Mall should make up the extra 2 and a bit kms. I'd expect along the Embankment to be a pretty good spot as you'd see it in both directions on each lap, would have to get their very early though.

Right you are! That's a real pity (for historical reasons and the athletes) that the finish isn't in The Olympic Stadium. Here's the reasoning behind it

Or they should have worked it to fit in the original 26mile 385yards finish line, they have since built an office block or something over that though.

Na I'm not going to go for the £295 ticket although the thought did cross my mind.

    They've suspended sales now too...
We have temporarily suspended the ticketing website while Ticketmaster investigates ticket resale issues that some customers have been experiencing. This website will reopen once Ticketmaster has resolved these issues.

I just think it's momentous to come thru the tunnel into an Olympic Stadium with 80,000 cheering/clapping/joyous spectators, the vast majority of whom have huge respect for what you have just done. THAT cheer is deafening. Am surprised The IOC allowed this for a ridiculous reason (if correct). I wouldn't!!

The organisers have said a lot of the tickets being put on sale are in groups of 2 and 4 only. Doesn't make it easy for us who just want one :(

Am I mad to be considering a £ 295 ticket to the 5000m final? :D
Not mad, but it probably wouldn't have been there if you went to buy it. That was the way it was all day.

The Men's Gold Medal just came up available but it took me 3 attempts to get past the Ticketmaster sign-in thing, and now 'unavailable'. Worn out after 5 minutes of this!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,199 ✭✭✭G-Money

Not got anything here since it re-opened and I've been checked a few times every day.

I called re the site going live - said they did a very brief 'test run' and apologised for the confusion. Confused........what's confusing??!! Anyone who is registered will get a mail, at least a day's notice, with the date/time that it starts again. In the interim they will not be adding anymore re-sale soccer tickets, returned final ones will be available on the same day as everything else.

Probably will be as disastrous as the last effort.

My brother has been for an interview for the transport team. Don't think he heard anything back yet.

I volunteered and heard back round new years that wasn't been called for interview [ i applied for specialised role so that could have been factor also). The demand was huge. 70,000 roles but 250,000 applied. I think overseas applicants would have been bottom of the pile too. if you applied for a general role you could still be offered something.

The resale website opens again today at 3pm but only to sellers. The organisers are buying back the tickets from them at face value and will put them on sale then in April along with the contingency tickets.

April??!! That's ridiculous. And disappointing. It's just announced on the London 2012 website too. Can you imagine the price of flights then? Did your book yours BTW?

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,433 ✭✭✭finbarrk

Pity they can't put them on sale once the resale closing date of the 3rd of Feb. is up. April is leaving it late.

Nope, haven't booked flights yet. I've booked accommodation for 2 nights and had planned to fly over Wednesday, go to the event that night, and do some sightseeing or something on Thursday and fly home Friday. However I still haven't given up hope of getting a ticket to the 5000m on the Saturday. And if I'm staying until the Sat, it might be worth staying for the marathon. Ah I don't know :D

I'm also half tempted to change my accommodation plans and only stay 1 night and come home on Thursday.
