I think you're reading into it too much TBH. So you want me to notice them? Sure I notice them. It's hard not to notice people dancing in your local pup in a location that isn't a dancefloor and is very close to the bar.
Not my fault if people feel they are not getting enough attention.

Than it is the story of the hen and the egg.
How more loud and how more tart to get noticed and get attention ? that's how are created the loud drunken tarts.
Most likely there is an unbalance.
Gibneys does have a dance floor.

Does that make you a gentleman that you don't care of people ? where is the love bro ? where is the life ?

No it's not. Typically that is completely at odds with human behaviour and most established knowledge around social reward. Ignoring certain behaviour does not encourage it, rewarding it does.

I am enjoying readying this thread so much ...
I am a woman in my early 30s.

First I want to say how difficult it is finding nice evening clothes in Dublin, no matter the budget. Have you seen what they sell in BT2 ? I have great difficulty finding classy/sexy cloth but decent. Abroad seems to be a shopping paradise.

As a woman in my late 30s I agree. I found Italy to be the best place to sell good casual and going out clothes. Dresses and skirts that are sexy but not skimming your ass, and tops that don't expose your entire cleavage. It's difficult in Ireland, you really have to shop around or improvise. Where are you from Prinou? A nice civilised country where men TALK to women, I bet.

Second, the attitude ! Why get drunk ? Get Merry !.

Drink enough to chill out but not so much that you can't walk properly or start behaving like an idiot. Maybe the recession will stop people throwing money away on drinks that either make them act like fools or throw up, but I think I'm hoping for too much.

Third. The other day I was in Gibneys and there wasn't a big crowd there. 4 very pretty women arrived. They started to dance, and I thought they were super. Spanish I think. I was looking at the guys reaction. Zero. nothing. They just didn't notice ... How about some glances that make your heart bit that little bit faster when met, followed by a smile that gives you wobbly legs ?! before deciding to get that little bit closer ... and...maybe not...and maybe yes ... and finally go and talk to her after 2 hours of teasing ? that's a bang bang romance ! It's not the first time I notice no body talk to girls that are not throwing themselves into men's arms.

I've never been to Gibneys but a male friend told me about his experiences there. He's in his early 30s and goes there sometimes with his friends. He says that there are about 4 women to every man in Gibneys and that the men don't bother no matter how stunning the women are, even if they look like models or are models! So the women do the chatting up and my friend says he hates this because he doesn't like women throwing themselves at him. Instead he and his mates prefer to have their drinks and chat and at the end of the night pick up a woman (tart:rolleyes:) who is usually willing to go home with him and they mightn't even have to buy the girls drinks.

I am personally sick of a social scene where you're largely ignored if you're not dressed like a slapper. Older women can be the worst offenders - desperation exudes from every pore of crepey cleavage they show. But then again, they might not be able to find more appropriate going out clothes.

I think that the Irish pub culture contributes to the "drunken tart" and "drunken groper" scenario. Instead of talking to each other, people get locked and in order to be noticed, some women feel that they have to wear next to nothing except a layer of orange tan, a ton of make-up, a wisp of high-street viscose and a pair of ridiculously high platform shoes that ensures they fall over several times. It's hard enough trying to walk in those shoes when sober!

Unfortunately there don't seem to be many guys in clubs or anywhere outside the pub scene. Hiking clubs are largely composed of women, as are salsa nights and most other non-pub activities in Ireland.

Sadly, the urban legend about the Irish man who would crawl over 10 naked women to get to a pint is true.

If you could get the guys away from the pub and Sky Sports maybe women wouldn't feel the need to hang around pubs and turn themselves into drunken tarts to get attention.

You have me all wrong. The louder and more 'tarty' they are the less attention I give them.

Speaking as one of the guys who was involved in building the place, no it doesn't. That section of floor where people like to dance, is just that, a floor where people sometimes dance. Once they aren't causing any trouble they're free to do as they wish.
There is a stage area actually. So long as there isn't anything going on up there (band etc.) I think dancing there is actively encouraged on lively nights.

Well I see you and I have different opinions as to what caring for people is.
Just because I don't feel the urge to join in dancing with strangers does not mean that I am uncaring or not enjoying my life.

    Exaggerate much?

If you re-read this thread the consensus is that the aforementioned drunken tarts are a massive turn off for the majority of men.

As for the quoted piece above,as a male that enjoys watching sports with my friends in a pub I find it pretty damn offensive.

That's right men, it's OUR fault certain women dress/act like tarts.

For the record, I like nice girls. :)

If drunken tarts are such a turn-off then why do so many women feel the need to get themselves into such a state? I've seen them and no matter what's said here those women seem to get far more attention than their quieter, more sober and conservatively dressed sisters.

Maybe the issue is that men in Ireland are more into watching sports than talking to women which is their choice. There seems to be a sporting event on the big screen in pubs most nights. Fair enough if it's a major soccer/rugby/GAA fixture, but even if there's a replay of a long over match between two countries outside of Ireland showing the men will still watch that rather than talk to women. So maybe women get the idea that men are ignoring them because they'd rather watch a rerun of a football match, they "try harder" by dressing like tarts and don't realise that puts men off as well.

I think it's sad that in this country and across the water in the UK so many women feel that they have to dress and act like tarts to get attention.

I'm going to start dressing like a football myself! :D

Interesting line of thought actually. Here's something to think about. If a bunch of guys go to the pub to watch the match they are there to watch the match. if they aren't paying attention to the women it is because they are there to watch the match.
Say a bunch of women go to the cinema to watch a movie. Should men get annoyed when the women don't pay them attention, even though they came to the cinema for the sole purpose of watching the movie?
By your logic, it's women who go to the cinema and ignore the men at the cinema that make men act loud and loutish.

In all seriousness though i would hate to live in whatever world your brain occupies...all men glued to pint glasses and the tv, all women having nothing better to do than get tarted up and pissed in a vain attempt to try and attract a man.

Jaysus, sounds like an ITV soap from the 80's.

Well you should probably find a different place to hang out so. Stop trying to grab the attention of the type of guy who goes for such women.
Strangely for every nice girl such as yourself that bemoans the fact that too many guys go for the slappers, there is probably a nice boy annoyed that all the nice girls are too busy obsessing over the 'bad boys' to notice him.
There's probably a simple solution for both of these nice people...

I don't have a problem with people who are in a pub to watch the match. I even go to a pub to watch the match sometimes myself. My point is that some guys prefer to watch a rerun of a match that was played ages ago and showing in the background of a pub where people go to socialise on a Friday night.

Perhaps this should be a topic for another thread, but the "repulsive drunken tarts" topic has brought up the point that men and women in Ireland don't talk to each other very much when they're out.

I think the syndrome of the drunken tart that is unattractive to most of the guys might be a bit like the child trying to get attention by being turbulent. It is a society problem.

Don't get me wrong, no excuses for those girls.

And that's why I can't understand how come more decent girls don't get more attention. and there they are : elegant, pretty, funny, great personality, dynamic, giving, interesting, challenging, involved ... I see loads of them. Women are truly extraordinary you know ...

I feel people in pubs stay in hermetic groups. I wish I was 20 again to rock it all up and get everybody speaking to everybody at the end of the evening like it use to be 15 years ago, with some mad demonstration of dance, music and of wit, of life. The feel of the community you know ? the feeling you belong. Walking back home merry thinking of all the people you met and what a great craick you had tonight ...
Barbe bleu .. I am french ! I can't tell you how to be Irish ! Mais alors !

I'd love to meet a group of shy guys who tend to end up with tarts ... to tell them how great they are and show them that there is somebody watching them and they didn't noticed and it might be the woman of their life.

I am married and i would have no problem if hubby looked at girls in admiration every so often (at the condition that i find them great to ! Can you see the argument coming up...?) . I know he chose me. It is not only seduction I am talking about, it is being friendly as well.

That's the thing. We live in the 21st Century now. Women and men are equals. I'm nearly sick of saying on this forum, if you are a girl and you like a guy, go over and start talking to him. Be the instigator! There is no reason in this modern age why a girl can't chat up a guy or ask him out.
It's that, or stand around hoping the guy you like notices you and puts the effort in to go chat you up and then get resentful if/when he doesn't.

Clearly thats the cue to buy a see through mini skirt and nipple tassles.

Well I mean there's no point resenting the people who don't talk to you when you make no effort to talk to them.
It's like a guy saying, "Damnit, I got my hair cut and wore a nice shirt, but the women I like won't walk over and talk to me. Woe is me!!!!"
You get whet you put into it.

I partly agree. I wouldn't make it a rule that it has to be the guy approaching the girl. But imagine how terrifying to go and speak to somebody that hasn't been looking at you. You have zero confidence they are going to like that. Same in reverse. It would be nicer to get that "intro" first.

Guys, what is a nice place in Dublin/ Malahide/Drogheda for girls in their 30s ? where can we meet gentlemen !!! Let's rule out the salsa class and hiking... where do you hang out ? Try acoustic music nights or comedy nights (just don't talk during the comedians).

Alot of guys don't have to imagine this scenario because the majority of them do it every other weekend. I do get your point, eye contact often helps but when I was single I'd often approach a women that I found attractive even if she didn't even look at me.

I think Galvasean's point of women not approaching men is a very valid one. Okay women can hide behind excuses like they fear rejection or are shy etc, etc, but men have the exact same fears but have no choice but to do all of the work all of the time.

That doesn't sound like equality to me.

If that forum that has turned into good girl versus bad girl versus who should start the conversation was in another country in europe, I bet you at that stage , with that number of posts there would have been some phone number exchange, both gals and guys would be listening carefully to each other for tips on how to pick up your targeted person, and it would be hot hot hot with provocation ! what it is about being aggressive and defensive, saying to women they are probably ugly ... do you seduce a lot with those techniques ??? chillax ! be charming !

Not everybody has to be "on" every night they go out. But I don't find Irish men or women to be as horribly uncommunicative as some people make out on here. Nor do I see a majority of Irish girls dressing in the way you suggest. Sure some do, but just as many do not.

You shouldn't also suggest that there are other magical countries where men and women only ever dress classily and engage in witty, delightful conversations. You get nice people and assholes everywhere you go.

I said earlier in the post that I sometimes go to a pub to watch a match.
Not everybody has to be "on" every night they go out.

Of course not. I never suggested that they had. However, not being "on" doesn't give you the right to be rude and obnoxious to everyone that crosses your path.
You shouldn't also suggest that there are other magical countries where men and women only ever dress classily and engage in witty, delightful conversations. You get nice people and assholes everywhere you go.

Why not if it's true? I never suggested that EVERYONE dressed classily or was terribly witty in those hypothetical countries, but there ARE societies where people are more relaxed with the opposite gender and enjoy talking to each other. They're not as likely to huddle around pints or handbags and stagger over drunk five minutes to getting-kicked-out time with a slurred pick-up line as the Irish. OK, not EVERYONE in Ireland does this, but this sort of thing seems to happen more often here than anywhere else.
